Are you talking about Three of Coins? Kill a major or ultra and you have a "chance" for an exotic to drop.

It was the Halloween event, you could craft (mostly useless, since they don't have light) masks, but it's still over.

Since September have they added any easy way to get exotics or good gear of which I would be unaware?

Check out DestinyReddit.com, they have a lot of helpful guides on exotics and other items that can get you some good gear. Lots of tips for the Raid and other quests too.

I'm legitimately considering a ps4. I don't want to run all those quests again but I have all the exotics that I just need to upgrade. Or I can grind again on the xbone

Gearing up from scratch on either system really shouldn't take that much time, the vanguard strikes help you do that fairly quickly. The most enjoyable time in Destiny is when you're chasing light level and better gear. Once you have your light level to a certain point (310ish) the game is pretty much over.

After ditching the game because I couldn't get the gloves I needed for max lvl after doing 40+ raids, I'm back.

It's been over a year since I quit so it should be fun. Unfortunately, I deleted my old save while raging so I have to start over from lvl 1.

I have an imporant question, would really appreciate an answer.

Is my exotic gear still any good? I have a ton of stuff for my warlock, like the Heart of Praxic Fire armor and a ton of weapons like Gjallarhorn, Mythoclast and whatnot.

Nope, a lot have year two versions, but the year one versions are mostly useless (you can still use them for old content or in regular crucible). You can get year two exotics by: Buying 3 of coins from Xur and using them, buying them from Xur directly, buying them from the kiosk (it is in the tower in the room with the class leaders on the wall by the door). I would probably rank those in that order, especially early. There is also the nightfall, the weekly crucible quest, and the raid chest but the odds on all are too low to mention (nightfall and weekly cruicible quest are good for characters that don't yet have good legendaries).

3 of coins, since they are new, are a consumable that will give you a buff that gives a chance to drop an exotic engram the next ultra you kill, and if you don't get one the odds go up next time you use one. Once you kill the ultra and the 3 of coins buff has been used, there is a 10-15 minute cooldown where the chance is really low (it's so you can't just use them rapid fire). So use one, then wait 10 minutes or so then use another. They don't expire, so you don't have to worry about not using the buff.

Also, do I need to be lvl40 to earn legendary marks?
