Re: Dark Souls II
Still wanking around in the Forest. I haven't even attempted a boss fight yet, so I've been taking it slow. I opened up the wall near the bonfire in the Tower in the Forest, so now I can skip a portion of the area without any combat. I managed to fight down past the adventurer that eventually gives you a soapstone for clearing an area. I fought through the turtle shell looking dude and went through the mist to unlock the iron gate. Now I can just skip to there from the bonfire in the tower.
I have no idea what lies ahead, but we'll find out today. A lot of dying I'm sure.

Re: Dark Souls II
I'm actually unsure of how i want to proceed.
SpoilerI want to beat the Ruin Sentinels because I get a useful spell for my sorcerer with thier soul, but impossible. Thing is I just opened the Shaded Woods and want to go there or try my luck in Sinners rise but I cant make it to the fog door in the flood yet. Meh.
Still awesome though. The urge to explore that new area is pulling me without beating the Bastille

Re: Dark Souls II
No spoilers for you, Lambert, but just incase others want to avoid:
SpoilerYou're at the DS2 version of post Ornstein and Smough. The game really opens up from there, and with the possible exception of the boss you're about to fight, the bosses are a little easier to figure out. It's that perfect hill of that Dark Souls crafted so well: You work your *** off to get to the top of the hill, and the reward is being able to run full-speed right down the other side.
What is your character build, looking like?SpoilerOld Iron King to clear the area, not sure what he'll be like. I'm happy to be rolling down the hill after slogging my way up it for most of the game.
My build right now is
Knight
Level 100
Vig - 25
End - 20
Vit - 17
STR - 41
Dex - 20
ADP - 15
It's working out decently for me so far, especially with the club.Comment

Is there a way to shut off invasions or getting randomly summoned in this game other than going offline?
I was messing around grinding in Pharros place and I kept getting pulled. Leave me alone game!Comment

You can burn an effigy at a bonfire, I think.Writer for Operation Sports

Dark Souls II
Being summoned to a rat covenant world isn't bad at all. You don't lose anything if you lose, you just simply go back to your world where you left off. On the other hand, you get a free look at what's ahead and if you beat the host you get a Pharos lock stone. Why avoid it? It's a win-win to me.
If you want to complete it without burning an effigy, join the rat covenant for a moment until you get to the end of pharros door.

Re: Dark Souls II
I dont even know what the Rat Covenant is. And I certainly didnt drop a sign. I just want to run around my game carefree. I dont like random interruptions like that even if its a "win win". I guess I'll just go offline.Comment

Re: Dark Souls II
SpoilerI kind of enjoyed the Iron King. He's an easy fight, but god, he was daunting to look at. The Smelter Demon was the real boss fight in the Iron Keep. That one was awesome.Writer for Operation Sports

Re: Dark Souls II
Burning an effigy works just as well. Invasions really only happen in a few select areas, so it isn't like you would have to waste a bunch.Writer for Operation Sports

Re: Dark Souls II
Spoilergoing down when he plunged the sword into his chest, lighting it on fire.
Still exploring. Made it toSpoilerthe castle, even defeated the two Dragonriders and talked to the Queen. While patience wins out, I'm getting tired of the 1 vs 2 or 1 vs 3 boss fights during most of the game. Yeah, I'm not as skilled as others, but playing offline due to no gold, some of these really kick my ***
While fightingSpoilerthe boss in the Gulch, forgot his name already, I liked his opening cutscene. The poor guy was just upset he couldn't put the head back on his statue and keep the place orderly and neat...

Re: Dark Souls II
Welp, first boss down. Took down the Last Giant on the second try. He was pretty easy as long as you stayed close to him and avoided his stomp. Used the extra souls to level up about 5 times, getting my faith over 20 and upping my vigor quite a bit. Also upgraded my mace for the third or fourth time, so that's hitting for quite a bit of damage.
After that, I found Cale and received the mansion key. Got the extra estus shard from there, so now my flask holds 4 uses.
I'm having a LOT of fun now, and I'm actually holding my own pretty well most of the time. I still manage to get myself in over my head from time to time, but that's usually from over confidence and not taking situations slowly like I should.
My only issue is, I now have no clue what to do. I assume I need to clear out Heide's Tower of Flame, but I can barely make it by all of the huge initial knights, let alone the Dragonrider or Old Dragonslayer. Not sure where to continue from here, but I'll find out I guess.
