So what difficulty are you guys starting on and how difficult has it been?
I started off on normal, the one right above the easiest, think it's called sword and story? I only played a little bit of witcher 2 just to see how my pc ran it, so I'm pretty much a newbie to the games. Definitely the right difficulty for me so far at the beginning.

I heard the hardest one has perma-death?

I'm playing on the 2nd highest difficulty. Died 4 times on the Griffin fight. It forces you to learn the monsters attack animations so you know how you can dodge the attacks and get an opening to do some damage on it. This damn lunging attack it did took out 75% of my health and killed me a few times.

I'd probably played about 2 hours, a little more, and haven't done a single thing. Having too much fun just exploring, wandering aimlessly, looting everything I can find, enjoying the atmosphere, playing gwent. I can tell this is gonna be a great fit for me.

I'm in just about the same boat: GTA V pc, Project Cars, The Show, Mortal Kombat X, Cities Skylines, and now The Witcher 3. I don't need another game for years, and all those other games I was playing just got dumped for The Witcher 3.

I'm playing on pc, turned off Nvidia Hair and cranked the visuals to ultra - game runs smoothly and looks fantastic.

Played a little last night, this is my first The Witcher game and loving it so far. I'm playing on the Blood and Bones difficulty I believe that's what it's called but really haven't been in to many fights to see how hard it is. Was also going to ask what difficulty others were playing on.

What was the Witcher 2 option when you start a new game? I answered Yes to sim the Witcher 2 decisions since that was the default. What would have happened if I chose no?

I've read every post on the net I could find regarding this. I'm on my iPhone so I'm not gonna dig up links but if you google "witcher 3 simulate save" a lot of stuff pops up.

I picked No when asked if I wanted to simulate. I was worried this had some sort of negative effect. Based on what I read all it means is the world state is wat the dev deems as "default" probably based in whatever the most popular decisions were in W2. I guess if you picked Yes then at a certain point you will be asked to specify which world changing decisions from W2 you want specifically.

Having never really played w2 or even w1, I'm cool with just playing on default. I'll educate myself in the w2 choices for my second play through and simulate them then.

Definitely seems to be a fair bit of confusion about this in the web, maybe it's explained better in the manual for the physical copy of the game? I'm digital so there was no real explanation at the time when it asked me to simulate or not

Thanks. I found an article on Polygon that went over the choices, but I thought it was unclear if I should choose Yes or No in order to make those choices. To me, I would think answering Yes to sim would mean the game wouldn't ask you those questions, but it sounds like Yes means it will ask you.

Also .. Answering YES to sim it will ask questions.

I am choosing to not sim though. Just picked up my copy...

So let me ask this then

Like I just said, I choose not to simulate and just play in the world the devs decided. When I go to that very first village in the beginning where you get your first quests and whatnot, people seem pretty rude to me.

Is that how Witchers are treated in this universe, in general, or is there something to do with decisions from W2?

Witchers are pretty much reviled by the people.
