    Re: The Witcher 3

I'm really hoping the patch addresses combat/movement. The patch list noted gameplay and cutscene performance, so hopefully it smooths things out. I like the concept of the game, the world, the lore, etc but it needs to be fixed.

Quick example gents (kind of hard to explain but I'll attempt). When fighting ghouls it seems like there are "frames" missing, there's a jarring feel to the combat. If I sit still for a second I can admire the animations of the ghouls, but while moving and actively fighting them, its hard to distinguish if they're swiping at me or biting. Its like my eyes aren't catching the full animation and there's something missing. Does that make sense? Anyone else notice what I'm talking about?

The controls are driving me crazy. Honestly to the point were I no longer look forward to combat. After playing Shadow of Mordor these controls feel like a clunky mess to me. I sure don't feel like a lethal monster hunter. Most fights for me look like Gerolt's first attempt to hold a sword. I'm really enjoying the story but I'm really put off by these controls.

So, how about that Bloody Baron quest-line?

Perfect example of the strengths of the series.

          ...

Yeah, there's something really funky about the locomotion. The controls somehow feel worse than the Witcher 2 and if you're playing on console, it's made worse by further input latency due to the frame rate being a mixed bag outside of White Orchard. There's an area in Valen where every single combat encounter is in the low 20s. It's so bad that I think it's a memory leak.

There is a different flow to the combat than in most action games since this is mainly an RPG which takes some time to get used to. Timing your blows is very important, if you spam on the buttons you will miss most of the enemies as they back away usually after the first hit. For monsters you should be dodging out of the way and try to get behind them or hit them with a side attack, for humans use the parry ability which will cause them to drop their guard and you can get in more hits.

Use your signs as well and know their distances so you can time them better. Also don't forget the potions and oils that will make your sword more powerful and increase your stamina rate so you can be more effective.

Coming from The Witcher 2 I haven't noticed anything jarring about combat. I seem to have more problems just walking around looting areas than combat. It's not as fluid as Shadow of Mordor, but it's not as button-mashy either. Each turn has weight to the action that forces strategy into each encounter.

I took down the shrieker outside of the Baron's castle with my blade and bow this morning. I'm trying to knock out that trophy early. I've also been trying for the 10 consecutive counter attacks, but no luck so far. Am I correct in assuming you just parry and attack without damage?

I really don't get all the complaints about the controls, during combat I have no problems at all.

The only thing I would like to see addressed as far as controls though,is to tighten up the movement while walking around...it does feel kinda "loose" during the moments of trying to pick up loot or gather plants.

Other than that though,I'm pretty satisfied with the way the controls are and absolutely love the combat in this game.

For the PC Players, Nexus has their mod site for Witcher 3 up. I think sweetFX is already released too.

Just upping the sharpness to Ultra on the patch from yesterday seemed to improve the overall visuals. Prior to that the world had a watercolor/ impressionist sort of vibe when looking at all the wheat and grass. It seems much crisper to me now.

I only got out of White Orchard yesterday so I am looking forward to this three-day weekend to sink my teeth into this game.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I don't have any issues in combat, just general walking around movement. I also have some struggles with my horse on occasion, but nothing too terrible

I didn't really get into Dragon Age Inquisition as much as I thought I would, but after a day with this game I'm hooked. I'm enjoying the combat, characters, and story a great deal. I can already see why it has received the type of ratings that it has. On top of that, I think Gwent is ****ing awesome. That could've been a separate game on its own.

That's what I told my cousin. Gwent is worth about half the price of the game. It's a game within a game and we essentially get it for free.
