All of my playthroughs have included 3/4 of the Fast and Strong attack ability trees. Unless you don't plan on using one or the other I don't see any reason not to do both. I find 6 Combat abilities makes for a strong combat presence while still giving you enough room to make several different builds with Alchemy, Magic, or an all out Combat build.

Re: The Witcher 3
Witcher 3 online skill calculator lets you invest ability points into talent trees, to find out what the best character builds are.
That link is a skill calculator for the game to get a glimpse of what abilities are available.
I would say early to focus on combat. If going for magic Axii was always the first one I maxed out simply for the dialogue options.
Once you start building up a good amount of potions, decoctions, and oils then I would start looking into the alchemy tree.
All in all just see what works and what suits your play-style best. I know it can be intimidating, but the game can be as deep as you want.

Re: The Witcher 3
Still reading "The Last Wish". Only on the 2nd short-story, "a grain of truth", but love how this story takes shape. Basically it begins like a quest would while we were playing the game. Geralt is just plodding along on the road and something catches his eye. Next thing you know he's deep into the forest and has encountered some strange enchanted place. Its like a quest experience ripped from how you would be exploring in-game. Loving it!Comment

Re: The Witcher 3
Finally started getting into this heavy again after about a year a way from it. Really wanted to do the dlc. Picking up my save I'm a level 44 on ng+. The dlc quests are way above my level. Really want to level up quickly but I hit a major roadblock...Gwent.

Re: The Witcher 3
I think I'm about to try and start this up pretty much for the first time.
Played for few hours before on death march and feel like I'm going to go death march on this first time through.
A.) Is that good choice of difficulty for the whole game? I worry a normal difficulty may be too easy once I've built up character about mid game but I may be wrong?
B.) As far as building up a character any tips on skills I should not waste points on and skills that are a must to complete the game on death march?

A) Death March is a good difficulty, it starts out really tough but once you start to level up and upgrade your witcher with armor/abilities/etc. it actually becomes quite easy near end game.
B) A mixture of combat (fast attack) and signs is a good early build as you have access to more of the stuff right away, if you don't mind waiting an alchemy + fast or strong attack build makes you a tanky DPS machine once you've unlocked everything. The second route takes quite awhile to get into as a lot of the stuff requires a lot of skill points. Some of the guys here have posted some great builds so I'd use those or just go search on YouTube for some guides as well.Fino Alla Fine

This time I am using what, to me, feels like a Witcher build. I have put points into everything and kind of balance it out. I will switch skill sets depending on the battle or battles I am about to face and adjust accordingly. I prefer the slow methodical approach.
But again this is just me. Do what works for you!In Loving memory of my "Cricket" 1/2/96 - 11/19/2012
