FO3 is a great game. Just because it doesn't follow the traditional turn based combat or top down perspective of previous games doesn't make it a disappointment to me.
It's not just the TB combat and perspective, but the horrible writing, crappy quests, simplified combat and character systems, easy difficulty, etc...

The only credit I can give to Fallout 3 is that it made New Vegas possible, which was at least a worthy Fallout game. (if not for that **** engine)

Ok, that's your opinion and your entitled to it, I won't go into why I disagree, but why are you so certain T4 will be a "slap in the face" ? I don't see any comparison between Thief/Fallout nor between their respective developers.

Mark my words. This game will be an abomination. Another dumbed down modern sequel to an old game complete with quest compasses, health regen, hand holding and AWESOME QTEs.

It shouldn't be a surprise to anybody by now.

I guess I'm just not bitter with the evolution of gaming as some people are. I still enjoy games for what they are and don't get upset about what they aren't. If a game is to easy and not enjoyable for me then I don't play it.

Anyway, there's a video in this article explaining the delay since Thiefs '09 announcement (I haven't watched it yet).

Kotaku link to new Thief trailer

No gameplay or whatnot, but I think it'll be awesome.

Total slap in the face of old school gamers.

According to Thief's Lead Level Designer, Daniel Windfeld Schmidt, the game will feature an old-school mode of sorts. Activating it will disable elements on the heads-up display and tone down master thief Garrett's special abilities.

Why? Giving a "brutally hard" mode is pretty normal nowadays.

Gaming has changed over the past 20 years.

Sarcasm based on previous comments in the thread that it was a guarantee the game would be completely dumbed down.

Whew...gotcha. That makes sense, i'm a little slow this morning and forgot about that one poster...

Everything I'm seeing about Thief has me excited...hopefully it turns out awesome.

Patrick Klepek from Giant Bomb said the demo that was at E3 was pretty bad. He's a big fan of the original Thief and Deus Ex and Dishonored so that's troublesome coming from him.

Not to mention this game has been in development hell for a while and this isn't the main Deus Ex: HR team developing this game.

Yeah, it looked rough to me when I saw it on Spike after the MS conference. It's not releasing until sometime in 2014, so hopefully they can bring it together.
