Haven't seen or read much about this game. I don't really know what it's about or what kind of game it is. I'm gonna try it out tonight though

Sorry to see these responses. Man what a bummer. Was looking forward to this next week.

            Re: Thief

I haven't played any of the previous thief games, so my quick impressions may not matter.

I'm a little bit past the prologue and the game is very linear so far. I got caught by a guard and he yells and starts attacking me. Meanwhile two guard who walked away from him 5 seconds ago are just chatting away while I fight the guard and took him out. The other two didn't even notice us fighting. Then again, I'm only playing on thief difficulty.

I saw a post earlier about the rope arrow and jumping only applying to specific spots and that is the case in this game.

EDIT: Okay, now I'm getting more options of which route I want to take to the objective. Disregard the very linear comment.

EDIT: Just finished chapter 1. This isn't really my kind of game. Pace is slow, the sneaking around doesn't seem challenging. Again, I have never played these games before and I was also playing on the normal difficulty.

Being a big Thief fan I went ahead and pre-ordered just in case. In the middle of replaying the other ones.

If I decide to not buy I'll just cancel it.
Love the stealth games waaay over the run and gun games so we'll see.

Looking forward to this game as of now even with all the mixed reviews, I never played any of the previous thief games but hear they were pretty good. Reserved this as I got an extra $100 (minus the $59.99) if reserved this when I traded up for my PS4, so basically got the game for free and an additional $40 towards my trade in. Either way looking forward to it dropping next week so I have something else to play other then Madden and 2K14, hopefully thief takes up the gap until MLB The Show comes out

Probably will just grab for the PS4 since there is no current plans to let the game be modded on PC.

If that changes I'll buy the PC version later

Pretty much everyone I've seen play this so far is going for a "high chaos", as Dishonored would call it approach.

                              Re: Thief

This is completely shocking, and now I'm interested to play it.

                              Oh thank God. It’s good.

While there’s going to be controversy, I’m arguing that it’s better than good. Thief, Eidos Montreal’s reviving of Looking Glass’s insurmountable series, is a superb game. It’s a tangible relief to write that. After years of really awful publicity, terrible press demos, and trailer after trailer of schlocky crap, our hopes were below waist level. But cast it all aside and chalk it up to abysmal marketing. While there is much to pick at, and I am certain there will be many who are apoplectic in their outrage, as a game within itself, Thief is bloody great.
It’s a big game. The game’s own clock records 22 hours, and that sounds right to me. Most missions took me at least an hour, some as long as an hour and a half, and many of the thirty or so side-quests (yes, thirty!) take between ten minutes and half an hour. And then there’s time spent creeping around the absolutely enormous city, exploring, trotting between fences and mission givers, or trying to fathom routes to various walkways in order to break into a tempting looking house. It’s big in a way first-person games haven’t been big in a very long time.

And it’s big within those missions, too. Each of the eight or so core chapters is set in a unique location, of stunning architecture and daunting scale. While there aren’t nearly as many alternative routes through some levels as the game clearly wants you to think there are, and often the funnelling can be a little too apparent, you’re still freely exploring enormous mansions, plazas and cityscapes. Each level is packed with vast amounts of loot to pilfer, lots of it hidden behind mini-challenges for the keen of eye, as well as all manner of collect-me-do special bits and pieces to incentivise you to replay and get the lot.
Garrett’s movement is going to piss a lot of people off. It pissed me off too, until I grew used to it, and then only when it didn’t work properly. Garrett, you see, doesn’t have a proper jump button.

                              (…)

Calmed down yet? Rather than proper free movement that he obviously should have had, instead Thief embraces this ugly trend for contextualised movement. So spacebar, for most of the time, is used for “Swoop”. Now, let’s be clear, Swoop is the acing best. It glides you forward, over a short distance, in a way that lets you – well – swoop into hiding in moments of panic. Or just sweeping your way up flights of stairs because it makes you feel great. It’s not quite Dishonored’s ‘blink’, but it’s close.
Some will be furious about one aspect or other, and they will be loud about it on the internet. The context sensitive jump/climb/swoop button is going to be the launch pad that fires a lot of people out of the game in abject fury. But the truth is, I’ve had a fantastic time playing it. For where it falls short, it far more often had me crouched in a shadow, heart racing, waiting for the perfect moment to dart past a guard’s routine. It may be the fourth best Thief game, but it’s a damned fine game in its own rights.
It's been a very long time coming, first confirmed in 2009, but the new Thief is out this week. Tomorrow in the States,…

I figured if anyone were to hate it, it would be RPS. Glad to hear they like it though. They do mention there's 2 boss fights though. After Deus Ex: Human Revolution, I really can't believe Eidos put them in this game after everyone complained about how awful they were.

                              Polygon gave it a 6. - http://www.polygon.com/2014/2/24/5441360/thief-review

But, I'd trust RPS reviewing a Thief game over Arthur Gies. Sounds like it might be a polarizing game though where some love and some think its mediocre.

Kirk Hamilton at Kotaku hated it.

A city full of closed doors and dead ends, boxed in and lined with nothing but rough edges: That's Thief.

It's hard to know quite where to begin with a shambling mediocrity such as this. It's a game that could have been great and is instead a lumpy, frumpy disappointment, outclassed on all sides by its contemporaries and struggling mightily for a foothold in a world that's moved on to better things.
Story missions and sidequests are all isolated, and each one is separated from The City's streets by at least one loading screen. (Thief has so, so many loading screens.) It's all fragmented and immensely difficult to navigate—Garrett can climb some walls but not others, scale some fences but not others, open some doors but not others. His bow and arrow theoretically offer some means of manipulating the environment, but even that has been hobbled when compared with past games. In particular, the rope-attached arrows that allowed for such creative exploration in past Thief games now can only be attached to a scant handful of designated rope-points.P

The City has more dead-ends than it has escape routes. It's constantly patrolled by dangerous guards, but if they spot you, whatever chase ensues will likely be brief, ending either with Garrett cornered or with the player taking advantage of one of several ridiculous ways to exploit enemies' shonky artificial intelligence. For example, you can begin to jimmy open a window and guards will immediately stop chasing you, even if they were right on your heels. Curses, he got away!
                                http://kotaku.com/thief-the-kotaku-review-1529393950

Reviews I've seen are all over the place. I'll play it at some point, but I'll probably wait for a sale. Too many other good games coming out in a few weeks.
