it would kinda make sense for it to have to do with sports games. Madden 2005 would probably be the last madden on the current generation of systems and if they skip 2005 then it would allow them to completly focus their development time on madden for next gen systems. Instead of having 1 year to develop the game they would have 2 solid years. Id kind of prefer that since I freaking cannot wait to see what football games will be like on the ps3 and xbox 2. The more development time the better I say.

Re: EA to now release titles every 2 years
The company plans to release new sequels in a leap-year fashion, where sequels to its big name franchises would come out two years after the last one instead of yearly (for example: NBA Street Vol. 3 on store shelves in 2005).
This sounds pretty gay.Comment

All the main EA sports titles will still be released every year. These titles are gold mines for EA and they are not stupidActually...believe it or not from my physique... I'm a light eater - Clay T. ShaverComment

Re: EA to now release titles every 2 years
It doesn't make sense to wait two years to release the sports titles so they can focus on the next gen systems. I'm sure they will sell a crapload for the next gen systems but not all gamers are going to run out and by these new systems when they release. There is still a market for the PS2, XBOX, and GC after the release of the next gen systems. It might not be there long, but it will be there. I'm willing to bet that 6 months after the next gen systems have been released, there will still be more PS2's, XBOX's, and GC out there then there will be next gen systems. Over time they can phase out the current systems but it's not a smart marketing move to do it right off the bat.Comment

Re: EA to now release titles every 2 years
I agree with others that it wouldn't make sense if they went with 2 year cycles with the big name sports titles but it would be VERY interesting if they did. Face it, the major complaint that people have about EA sports is that the games are basically the same with just a graphics enhancement here and there and a roster update.
By going in 2 year cycles they'd be able to build upon the gameplay issues in the previous games, make a huge graphical leap, build upon features like Franchise and hopefully better beta testing. There would also be a bigger sense of anticipation. In the 1960s the Bond films were done yearly and while they were highly anticipated people often complained that they were pretty derivative which is the complaint that EA gets with the big sports titles.
Another thing just came to mind....I see a lot of people wanting to export their franchises in the previous year's games but they can't well with a 2 year cycle they can keep their Franchises going AND get a roster update!
Of course I don't think this'll happen but maybe a game like Madden needs a year off....The core gameplay is essentially the same from '01 but the Franchise part is completely upgraded. Imagine 2 full years for the Madden ppl to change the gameplay a bit and bring it up to speed with ESPN?Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club
