Re: EA to now release titles every 2 years

      Thanks for the link 8bit.

Man, EA made nearly half their revenue (49%)off the PS2 alone compared to xbox (15%) and GC (7%) . No wonder the PS2 gets so much more attention in regards to extra game features and game development. I knew the PS2 was a major player in EA's success but I had no idea it was to that extent.

Based on those numbers they could probably afford to do the games every 2 years. That extra year would allow them to see what the competition does in the 1st year after a title. They could then possibly implement those ideas and tweak them for the following year in their own. Being number one in software sales provides that potential luxury.
Despite this, I don't believe EA would pass up the opportunity to make that kind of money every year on their cash cows as was mentioned earlier.
EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.

Madden and NBA Live seem to break sales records year after year. Even the Live music soundtrack went platinum apparantly. Not only would they miss out on a heap of money each year if they went 2 years for their main sports games, but they might lose fans who may end up sticking with ESPN or other franchises after trying something different.

I think it's a good idea for games like SSX and NBA Steet though.
