Re: The Evil Within
yeah I'm chapter 6 yeah i would of save money on game there is really no fear in game. even playing at nite like RE had 1-4 or even some silent hill games or even condemn. Story so unoriginal game mechanics ok 2 3 attacks from a zombie ur dead while it takes around 10 melee attacks to kill one. They move just as fast as you and bullets in head don't even work if i should u in leg get u in ground i shouldn't have to put 2 bullets in your head. for common zombie. don't forget chain saw massacre guy running 4.5 speed with chain saw in air.
I'm just finish game and put it to rest not sure what i would get for trade in I'm have to ask if i can get 20-25 dollars i'll trade it hate trading in games butthat money can go towards fc4 dragon age etc
i wonder if designers know that u can have a horror game not surrounded by zombies and a hospital for crazy people.
true story America is a horror story b/c u got bunch of dead(alive) zombies called people who ignorant lol that is scaryComment

Re: The Evil Within
Ok, so I just played the first two chapters and I have to wonder whether or not I want to continue...
I feel like this game was made for 14 year old boys, honestly. As much as I don't want that to be true.
From the outset, the game ridicules you for selecting the easiest difficulty. Ok??? It's one of my only two choices. Why should I be made to feel bad for selecting an option YOU'VE JUST GIVEN ME.
And from the bloody butcher to the electric thing you stick to your head when upgrading to the clown looking masks all over every screen...
I feel like this game wasn't made for a 31 year old guy.
I've played so many games over the years and never felt this way about video game.
And what's with Jennifer Carpenter? She's an excellent actress IMO but her dialogue sounds incredibly forced and stiff here.
Anyway, I'm wondering if I should continue on or not. I pretty much went into this wanting a decent story about an unknown virus but I'm not entirely sure the game is headed in an even modestly decently well written narrative direction.
Any thoughts?
ETA: I generally love horror titles. P.T. was exceptional. I also really loved Dying Light and even liked the first RE Revelations, some of the old Silent Hill's, etc. This game just feels like it was made for a different type of gamer.Last edited by Heroesandvillains; 03-03-2015, 12:44 PM.Comment

Re: The Evil Within
Unfortunatly I have very little to encourage you to continue playing. Never have I grown to hate a game the more I played like this one.
If the story is your biggest concern I suggest stopping now. It only drags on and becomes worse the more you play (the game in a nutshell). Yeah, it's only a video game, but the story is bad even by video game standards. Weird for the sake of being weird is how I would describe it.
Too bad because there are some good gameplay elements there. All the bad just outweighs the positives.Comment

Re: The Evil Within
I got this on a cheap Black Friday deal for $25 from Best Buy and I haven't touched it since Christmas Eve. Only got to the third chapter. Not sure if I'll ever continue it.Comment

Re: The Evil Within
After AC Rogue, The Evil Within was my second favorite game of 2014. It was also only one of three games that I rated a 9 or higher. I finished/completed 12 games in 2014.
I played through The Evil Within TWICE. It's that good. Is it perfect? Nope. Are there negatives? Yes. But if you're like me and wanting a new pure survival horror franchise, The Evil Within easily delivers. Story and characters aren't the greatest but it allows all the insane stuff in the game. I look at The Evil Within as the best survival horror game since RE 4 and that was more action horror. It's a combination of RE 4, Silent Hill and old school RE in my opinion.
Visually, the game looks very good. Atmosphere and immersion is excellent. Some chapters really make you feel like you're playing an old school RE game. Music and sound effects are a perfect ten in my opinion. Gameplay is excellent as well but the aspect ratio, limited field of view and zoomed in aiming will turn off a lot of people. That's the only negative gameplay wise. The game itself plays great and I love the stealth in the game. The puzzles, awesome opening, great boss fights (even though there is a negative to them later on in the game) and just the sense of feeling what a true survival horror game is supposed to be is worth playing through at least once.
Definitely hoping for a sequel with a bigger budget and being full screen. The potential is definitely there.Comment

This new generation has treated me well. Check it:
NBA 2K14
MLB 14 The Show
MGS Ground Zeroes
Shadow of Mordor
TLOU Remastered
Tomb Raider Definitive
Shadow of Mordor
Dragon Age
AC Unity
Dying Light
The Walking Dead Season 2
The Wolf Among Us
Sleeping Dogs Definitive
The Order: 1886
Never Alone
P.T.
All brilliant. Only:
Sherlock Holmes
Murdered: Soul Suspect
Disappointed me.
The Evil Within seems to look down on me and force feed me every horror cliche imaginable. I want it to be great. My brother said it's his favorite this gen and he's played almost all the above but so far I'm actually repulsed by how cliched and juvenile it TREATS me.
I may continue it so thanks for the post. I want to feel like you do, trust me!Comment

Re: The Evil Within
For 2014, here's my rundown -
Assassin's Creed III: Liberation HD (ps3) - 7/10
Assassin's Creed Rogue (xbox 360) - 9.5/10
Assassin's Creed Unity (ps4) - 8/10
Child of Light (ps4) - 8.5/10
Far Cry 4 (ps4) - 9/10
Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris - 8/10
Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes (xbox 360) - 7/10
Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor - 8.5/10
The Evil Within (ps4) - 9/10
Watch Dogs (ps4) - 8.5/10
The Evil Within was my second favorite game of 2014 after Rogue with Far Cry 4 third. Overall, it was a damn good game. With the DLC coming out next week, im tempted to play it again but I'll wait for the second story based DLC to come out first.
Don't give up. Cliche's aside and whatnot, The Evil Within is easily worth playing through at least once. Granted, it's not perfect but the feel you get from playing it is definitely an old school RE and Silent Hill feel with some RE 4 thrown in.Comment

Re: The Evil Within
UPDATE:
A new patch has been released that adds an on/off option for the aspect ratio to be in wide screen or full screen.
I may have to buy this game again and play it in full screen 1080p baby!!!Comment

Re: The Evil Within
I was just coming in here to post that. Those giant black bars were the biggest issue i had with the game. I never understood why there wasn't a option to remove them when it was first released.Comment

The Evil Within
Just started playing this for know reason other than to take a COD break...through the first 2 chapters this game has me crazy on the edge and immersed (playing with a headset and lighting slightly lowered, lol).
It's unfortunate I read the games story takes a few bad turns, but I plan to see it through.
How are the DLC's for those that had season pass or loved the game at one time?Last edited by Sausage; 01-02-2016, 04:40 PM.Comment

I got this before Christmas in 2014 and never saw it through. Last time I even played it was Christmas Eve 2014.

Re: The Evil Within
The first 1/3 of the game had me hooked. Like, I really loved it and thought I was in for a treat. Then my opinion on the game began to sour the further I got. By the final couple chapters I hated the game with a passion.Comment
