    Re: XBOX NEXT Info

You can do alot of things without a HD.

The gamecube does not have a hard-drive but it now has linux running on it and the guys that did that without the cube SDK. Imagine what you could do with the official SDK of the console.

That is a project that requires a memory card to store the software loaders and exploits a bug in Phantasy Star Online. You cant just emulate on the machine itself without a hard drive. That would mean emulation wouldnt come standard with the box. They would either A) have to include a memory card with the Xbox emulation on it in the package with the system itself or B) sell it separately. Now which method do you think Microsoft will employ first?

You are kidding right? You don't need a HD to emulate - you might have to do some things here that are against the TOS to talk about to emulate your own way. But surely microsoft could emulate from their own system when you boot off of a DVD or CD.

                  - I also should not use the gamcube thingy as proof since its running natively...

                  - likewise MS could have other evil things up its sleeve which I would say is more likely.

They could have plans to sell you a Windows XP - Server pack for XBOX. This would allow your PC to serve saves to your xbox through you homenetwork. Maybe this kit would cost 150 bucks and would use all sorts of useless encryption just to get DMCA protection. You then would be forced to buy their hardware and XP server software to store xbox saves remotely on your HD.

Or maybe they want xbox live 2 to have remote enabled saves. This way, nothing would be saved localy and you would HAVE to have Live. This would save money for MS as they would not need to put a HD in the xbox and they would sell more xbox live kits and maybe even more premium add ons.

I am sure someone at MS has already thought of this.

I wasnt saying you couldnt emulate without a hard drive. I'm saying you can't emulate from straight inside the box without a hard drive. Emulation requires some sort of persistent storage. If not a hard drive, it requires a separate accessory/medium to load up, for example, as you say, from a CD/DVD. That is just an extra part that can be sold separately. I know you and I both know what we're talking about here.
