Re: Wolfenstein - The New Order

The fact that Gamespot gave it an 8 is a good thing to me as they are typically one of the tougher review sites. Reviews are better than I expected as it seems to be a decent game with most of the reviews being positive if they were fans of the series in the past and not so much if not. With this being one of the few games to reach 1080P and 60FPS on both PS4 and Xbox One, people should be dancing in the street.

I"ll be playing it this evening hopefully!

This looks good. Fast paced arcade shooter gameplay, being able to carry all the guns, health pickups, overcharged health and armor. It's like the late 90s again. Really a nice change from 95% of the shooters out there today. Was going to wait for a price drop, but this looks good enough for a full price pickup. Would have probably bought it if Transistor and Watch Dogs weren't coming out in the next 2 weeks.

Gamespot video review just sold me, looks like a lot of fun.

I tried to play it. The graphics looked nice, but I couldn't control very well at all. I need legacy-type controls in FPS games, and this one doesn't have that option.

Re: Wolfenstein - The New Order

I have played for about 3 hours on PC (medium settings) game looks good but not great (I imagine medium is around what next gen looks like) and my FPS has been around 35-60 depending on whats going on. Initial impressions are that this game is awesome. Just started the 3rd level, the story has been interesting so far and General Deathshead is a real psycho.

Gunplay is just straight up fun and entertaining. It mixes some modern FPS features with older ones such as health, armor and ammo pickups (missed this), there technically is regenerating health but its only to a certain degree. For example you will never be stuck at 1% health it would roundup to 10 or 20% (the amount of rounding may depend on the difficulty your playing on). I've been playing on "I am death incarnate" which is the second to highest difficulty level and its been a decent challenge so far, the AI is not amazing but they flank you and take cover. Good enemy variety so far and based on reviews this is a big strength of TNO. So far the levels have been straightforward but again based on reviews this changes and the levels open up. There is stealth which is very useful sometimes (probably essential on Uber difficulty) but really this game is about holding two assault rifles smashing down on the mouse/triggers and letting the bullets fly, which it does really well.

It would seem there's at least two different story lines based on achievements and a event that occurs early in the game. There is also quite a bit of collectibles. Some seem to be just for the sake of collecting while others add background to the story/world.

I got the game for $45 on GMG and I am not regretting it so far, guess the real decision is if a SP only game with a 15-20 hour campaign is worth $60 to some people.

Oh and a few annoying things about the PC version is you cant clear a keybinding and from what I've read on Steam FPS seems to be capped at 60 no matter what.

Just finished the first level and the game is much more fun than I expected, it reminds me of Resistance Fall of Man, expect a lot more twitch based.

Something else I noticed is that when you kill enemies they remain on the ground and do not disappear after a time.

The gunplay is second to none.

Nice, I should have this in a day or two. You mentioned that there were friends leaderboards, but this is a single player game. What kind of stats do they track?

Actually, the stats they keep track of is quite deep (headshots, how many times you die, amount of specific enemies you kill, etc.) but it seems that for comparison with friends it is just the completion % of your current game. Kind of a bummer, I was hoping it would track all the little nuanced stats.

I am playing the hardest of the five difficulties as well. It is nicely done, it doesn't seem impossible, but it is pretty difficult.

EDIT: Something I failed to mention is that there are a lot of secret artifacts to find, which leads to a good deal of exploration.

I think there are something like five different categories of secret items to find, and a ton of them at that.

Same here. Graphics are better than I expected, but whores will still not like them. Game in motion is a thing of beauty and really shows what 60fps can do. Story and environment have me hooked wanting to play more. Just be ready to wear your square button out on your controller....
