I'm really curious if this game is anything close to the trailer, feel like I've seen trailers like this for years that don't live up to the hype

            EDGE cover:

The new issue of Edge magazine features world exclusive details of Insomniac’s colourful Xbox One shooter Sunset Overdrive.

We visited Insomniac HQ in Burbank, California to be the first media in the world to play Sunset Overdrive as the studio explained how it intends to put the fun back into shooters – the game brings to mind Tony Hawk, Jet Set Radio, Crazy Taxi, Prince Of Persia and the blue skies and bright colours of the Dreamcast era.

The cover story features world exclusive screenshots, art and details on how the game plays, how Insomniac is working with Microsoft to develop for Xbox One and more – we conducted interviews with Insomniac CEO Ted Price, co-creative directors Drew Murray and Marcus Smith, level designer Cameron Christian, character artist Gavin Goulden, art director Grant Hollis, and programmer and gunsmith Doug Sheahan to gain real in-depth insight into how the game is being developed.

The new issue is available in print, on iPad, Google Play and Zinio from Thursday May 8.

              Embargo is up:

Polygon - Sunset Overdrive turns the post-apocalypse into an energy drink-fueled party

Sunset Overdrive is Insomniac's first truly open-world game. It's a kinetic, fast-moving shooter paired with acrobatic traversal inspired by games like Prince of Persia, Jet Set Radio and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. It's packed with the qualities Insomniac excels at: quirky animated characters, strange weapons and bright colors — and the occasional colorful innuendo.
The Wild World of Sunset Overdrive

The game's customization systems are expansive as well. Not only can you precisely tailor your character from a huge number of body parts and clothing pieces, but an Amps system lets you craft weapons and other tools to help you along the way. Recipes scattered around Sunset City require cans of Overcharge to be combined with other items to craft Amps; weapons each have Amp slots, which serve to upgrade them with powers that go well beyond simple stat buffs (though you get those, too).

It looks intersting..but also like a very colorful Crackdown 2 meets Tony Hawk meets inFAMOUS. Insomniac doing it though leads to it most likely being good.

This looks really fun. Too bad it's only on the One. I'm waiting for a price decrease before I'll consider picking one up.

Yeah....the movement with all the parkour, but swinging/sliding and all that. Very intriguing.

I thought Crackdown 2 like you as well....

                            Re: Sunset Overdrive

This game needs a Mr. Zurkon weapon.

Honestly though, unless this game has a pretty good story or a competitive leaderboard system, I have a feeling people will burn out from this game incredibly quickly, like within weeks. If I owned an X1, even as awesome as this game looked in E3, I would only find myself renting this one I bet.

Don't get me wrong, the gameplay mechanics and visuals are there. Not too into the enemies really, but that's their prerogative I suppose to pick-and-choose how they see it best molds their overall story. I just hope that, like Ratchet & Clank before them, there is a robust story behind the game as well where you can traverse your environment and accomplish quite a bit. I'm sure that's in there (as they said there's a lot left unspoken of), but this game simply can't last on the bells and whistles of what we just saw in that trailer. That's all.

I'm excited to see what else they will reveal about the game. Let's hope it's not bare-bones. By the way, if there's one thing that can really make this game, it would be an overly-active killer soundtrack. Heavy guitar riffs all of the time with that high adrenaline kind of feel can really heighten the feel of playing this game, especially since the premise is already based on energy drinks.
