    FINALLY!

From the looks of the trailer, with Faith getting her Tattoo's, it looks like the second game will tell the story of how the events of the first Mirror's Edge happened.

      Re: Mirror's Edge 2

...how can it be Mirror's Edge 2 when it's happening before the first game? I HATE when movies or books or games do that.

I guess they kinda wrote themselves into a corner with making a sequel.

      Spoiler

Oh well. Can't wait to pull off some sweet movies. I hope they've added wall shimmying ala Splinter Cell and other trac...tracue...whatever. Parkour moves.

UPDATE: DICE's next-gen Mirror's Edge is in the "early stages of development", fresh information from EA has revealed. It'll launch for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

The game will serve as a reboot for the franchise and tell an "all-new origin story" for heroine Faith.

"We introduced Mirror's Edge and Faith to gamers five years ago, and we've waited for the right moment to reunite them," said producer Sara Jansson. "Thanks to the Frostbite engine and a new generation of platforms, we are now able to deliver a richer world that players will be able to explore with a new level of freedom in both movement and action."
ORIGINAL STORY: Battlefield developer DICE has announced its much-rumoured Mirror's Edge sequel on stage at EA's E3 2013 press conference.

The game is "Coming... when it's ready," a teaser trailer stated.

Mirror's Edge (there was no "2" in the game's logo as previously expected) looks exactly as we'd hoped - free-running sections, hand-to-hand combat and lots of stylish red and white surroundings.

The original game's heroine Faith was also shown to be returning.

A Mirror's Edge sequel has been rumoured to be in the works for some time. It recently popped up on several Amazon websites, and then EA's own website. Oops.

Mirror's Edge 2 is an open-world, says EA

The recently announced Mirror's Edge reboot has been referred to as an "open-world action adventure game" by EA Labels president Frank Gibeau.

The executive was speaking at the publisher's E3 2013 analyst call, during which he discussed EA's product portfolio for the year ahead.

            More details:

            Eurogamer

"I can tell you one thing," he said. "It's a very different Mirror's Edge experience than the first game.

"Obviously as you saw in the trailer there are some things that will clearly remain the same. We're not going to break what the game was good at. But in general, though, there are some changes, which are for the better I think."
Söderlund promised developer DICE won't turn Mirror's Edge into a shooter, but did confirm that Faith will be a more powerful character than she was in the first game.

"The first game was a lot about running away from things," he said. "And, even though you want to have sections with that, you also want Faith... she's a powerful character and you want her to take control. You'll see a little bit more of that in this game.

"Again, we're not going to turn this into a shooter. On the contrary, in fact. But we are going to evolve Faith and the story. Once we show more of this people will be genuinely excited. I am personally extremely excited about it."
"We knew we were going to come back to it one day, and we've had a small team on it on and off in conceptual mode. Not until Sarah approached me and [General Manager] Karl-Magnus Troedsson and said, 'I have something I want to pitch to you guys,' - we got that pitch and I was amazed by what she showed us. I said, 'yes, this is it. We're now going to do it.'

"We were waiting for the right idea. I'm so excited that the idea itself is so different and spectacular that it can only work on future machines, like the Xbox One and PS4 and PC. That's when I knew we had the right idea."

                  Re: Mirror's Edge 2

Bringing next-gen Mirror's Edge to current consoles would mean too many compromises

"We have worked on the next Mirror's Edge with a small group of people for a long time, and different groups of people for a long time," he said, explaining why the sequel has been so long in coming. "We've decided we need to make the right game and we need to make the right decision about what the right game was.

"We got to a couple of concepts that looked promising but in the end we stopped making."

Soderlund said the company didn't start work on the game until the senior producer, Sara Jansson, presented her vision for the game.

"It was something that I just looked at and said, we have it, let's do this," he said. "It wasn't so much the story , even though that's very important, but it was about the game and how the game was going to be played and what you can do and what Faith does. It amplified the things that were good with Mirror's Edge and downplayed the things that were bad in a very natural cool way and combined it with a bunch of really inspiring cool things."
The title is coming to Xbox One, PS4 and PC, and not to current-generation consoles. That's because, Soderlund tells Polygon, the company would have to change the game's core concept too much to make it work.

"It just happened to be a game design that I don't think you can build on an old-gen machine," he said. "It doesn't work the way it's designed. And that also appeals to me. We could maybe get it to work on one, but we would have to compromise on too many things. With this we didn't have to.

"It's a true next-gen idea, with next-gen execution and that felt right."

I obviously want this to come out sooner rather than later, but I'm fine with however long it takes them to execute their vision. No need to focus on current-gen this late in the game, they're doing the right thing. I'm just glad that this sequel is a reality.

                              Hello everyone,

Two years ago we revealed that we were making a new Mirror’s Edge™. Last year, we gave you a behind the scenes look into some of the early progress we had made. And though we haven't said much else in all that time, we have been listening. Thank you for your incredible passion and your patience. I'm excited to tell you that it's paid off — by this time next week, you will have finally seen more of the game at E3.

Mirror’s Edge has always had a special place in the hearts of all of us at DICE. The first game had a lot of promise. It was unlike anything else in terms of the gameplay and style — it had a unique soul. But as much as we loved that game, we knew it could be more. So that’s what we have set out to do as we introduce Mirror’s Edge to a new generation.

The team has spent a lot of time re-evaluating every aspect of the game and making it a new experience. This is not a sequel, this is not Mirror's Edge 2. We have landed on a vision that honors the first game — pushing the boundaries of first person movement and diving deeper into the story behind our heroine Faith — but also brings a lot of great new, interesting gameplay and features to the experience for our players.

So on behalf on the entire team here at DICE, we can’t wait to show you what we have been pouring our heart and soul into. We can’t wait to introduce you to Mirror’s Edge™ Catalyst.
