    Re: The Division (Xbone/PS4)

If this game isn't riddled with lag and disconnecting, it'll be beyond epic.

IGN also said that when you play the game, it looks even better than the trailers.

I would agree...I like the single player gameplay, but will be fine with the MMO environment as long as other people aren't griefing me as much, you know?

Yea I agree, I just see the trend like TitanFall, Need for Speed Rivals, and now the Division as this growing trend of integrating multiplayer in a singleplayer fashion to be a positive for our hobby. For to long has the gaming landscape remained the same with little chances taken to truly reinvent a new way to experience a game.

If a company can blend the two together seemless where we all kind of "collide" in natural events within a "gameworld" that only enhances the experience because we are no longer dealing with wonky AI but the intelligence of a living person.

For instance use GTA 5 as a example. You log in the game, the game world is populated with 10 or so others all doing their "singleplayer missions". You get a mission to hold up a bank, so you go through your normal routine of gathering car, weapons, or whatever is needed. 2 other players in this world get a mission that "your mob boss has heard there will be a bank robbery and we want yall to take whats rightfully ours". So these other players are thrust into fouling up this other players mission and stealing the goods.

You make your way to the bank, move in and hold up the place, go to make out with the money while two SUVs roll up when you exit the bank and open gun fire on you. You then either enter in a hot pursuit chase with the other players trying to take you down or they gun you down, take "their" money completing their mission.

It is the integration of this that is the key. It should not be frustrating and instead should feel natural and make the gameworld feel more real. Simple small example but the direction and possibilities this could hold I see a realm of amazingness!!!!

My point is I don't know why it can't be both. As screwy as online is if you can't match up with a team this game won't be fun. If online is screwed in any way so is the game.

You don't need to be on a team in order to play this game..so it doesn't need a single player, offline mode. Not all games are like World of Warcraft where if you're not on a team you are helpless..

I get your point 23, I just think we need to get out of thinking of games in boxes like "singleplayer or multiplayer". If a design is properly implemented it should blur the lines where it is hard to tell which is which and I think we are starting to see inclinations of that. Which I truly feel is a good thing for us as gamers rather than a negative. A good game is a good game, I mean look at games that are primarily great singleplayer experiences, Tomb Raider for instance, then they try and tack on a multiplayer which is garbage. Is that game still considered a great game? In my mind no, sure PART of the game is excellent, but I paid for the entire product. So with that mindset, I'd rather see a studio come up with a idea such as a seamless blend of singleplayer and multiplayer and build/design the game completely to fit their design mission. Instead of doing one single thing how they intend THEN after the fact attempt to half-*** a tacked on extra. Plus bringing in the human element of free will into this experiences and I think the possibilities from this new direction could offer huge upsides.

It would certainly help in the P2P sections of the map, though.

                  Re: The Division (Xbone/PS4)

I don't mind having to team up sometimes, but others I'd like the ability to play solo, so I agree in general.

My game time isn't as long anymore, so I can't really do WoW type grouping for hours...However, if it's seamless team integration where randoms aren't being stupid, then it could be fine too...

I'm very interested to see what they come up with.

I'm more along the lines of what most said above and I'm cool with a special experience without needing a team per say. I've yet to really see a single shooter online where there is not a myriad of complaints about something cheesy or on the server side.

What you say sounds great and lofty bit I'll have to see it to believe it and it really has to work to start a genre.

Honestly the real team player shooters don't even exist anymore because of the cod moment that's been going on for so long.

I feel as though I'd struggle to come to grips with a soley online experience and I'd be willing to bet I'm not alone. The potential for connectivity issues and lag stresses me out. Further, random human variability also can really kill the experience for me as well.

I like single player options because it always allows me to play on my time. It's my chance to indulge as I see fit (usually with a lot of starts and stops). I gave GTA V online a shot and I struggled to keep with it because anytime I wanted to chill for a second, I found myself getting shot (unless I turned on the invisible mode).

Also, people are a lot better than me at video games. And then, some people are a lot worse than me. Essentially, I'm not sure I'd like that variability either. What if I rob a bank but the humans set to stop me are both incredible at what they do?

Basically, games tend to be my getaway, as opposed to being an opportunity to compete against my peers. So I think I'd really struggle with any experience where there wasn't a completely solo option where I had nothing to worry about except operating at my own pace against a consistent opponent.

Yea I agree they are lofty to a degree, but looking back at the video game industry from start till now I'd think several things would of been considered "lofty" and now they exist as the norm(First Person Shooter is a good example of this, starting as a static gun in Wolf 3d, advancing to games such as Mirrors edge or Farcry 3 with how we feel more like we are in the persons eyes). Advancements come and games adapt. I feel this is just another logical step for the growing connection of multiplayer & social media.

Now how they use this tech and implement it is a completely different story. You might love one implementation of it in the future and fits what you would like to see out of it and I might despise it because I'd rather see it used a different direction. That part of gaming and what we enjoy won't change.

I just hope to see some advancement in HOW we game with others rather than the typical "lobby" or server browser setting.

All great points, good thing for you the singleplayer experience will never truly disappear. You will have PLENTY of titles to meet your needs from the past and long into the future.

Nothing I read said anything about multiplayer.

The always online stuff could be just for time lapses.

This just seems to me to be like a mix between Watch Dogs (online elements) and The Last of Us (deep RPG).

Always online may just mean other players having the ability to steal your supplies or affect your objectives while you're not online.

Again, Game Of The Year potential IMO. Can't wait for more info to come out.

I've read it's an MMO though so that means it would be multiplayer.. I understand people's concerns about it but I'm hoping that it works as they intended. I'd just like to know what they plan to do about griefers and the like... Because if you're constantly dying from people 5x your level attacking you it'll get old quick...

I also want it to be mostly playable on your own as I often prefer to play by myself in games like this. I understand the devs no doubt will want some missions or areas to be worked on by teams but I hope that's not the majority of the game or I will not be playing long probably...

I'm with you. I really can't stand online only games simply for the fact I don't want to play with strangers.
The very little that I have done online was not pleasurable.

On a different note, I need to do more research on the premise of this game.
I thought it was simply a tactical SWAT-type shooter, not a survivalist, apocalyptic type game.

The need for water and food is very intriguing.

I hate saying it, but with this game, Destiny and Watch Dogs coming out shortly, I may jump into next-gen sooner than later.

Same here. I don't play a lot, certainly not as much as some 16 year old holed-up in his parents basement playing 8 hours a day.
I'm a terrible gamer so I would get miffed if I'm constantly getting sniped the second I jump online.

With this one I wouldn't want it all PvP all the time. If it's playing on a team with other players against the AI, that's cool...

I don't want all the enemies to be online people who want to do that.

I think that The Division is teaming people up against the AI, but i'm not totally sure.
