Re: The Division (Xbone/PS4)
I haven't read the entire thread so I apologize if this has been said already but, one of the primary things that struck me about the gameplay video was the small little inbetween animations - the user sliding on top of the car, watching him physically place a turret, scooping up a bottle of water, lifting up his new gun. It's those kind of detailed nuances I'm anxiously looking forward to as the next generations continue to develop. It adds a ton to the overall picture.Comment

Re: The Division (Xbone/PS4)
A lot of us assume we're approaching the max in terms of video game advancement potential, but I have no doubts we'll very soon be looking back at those terrible jumping, falling, crawling, and whatever else animations (players jumping off a building and landing in a perfectly upright position) and laughing at how readily we used to accept those things as being legitimate and ultra real.Comment

Re: The Division (Xbone/PS4)
Oh good call. I saw a gif of that but overlooked it in the video. It's interesting because I was just thinking aloud a month or two ago while I watched my brothers play Battlefield multi player. I was thinking how cool modern video games looked (on 360) but I wondered how much longer we'd have to accept all those awkward animations as reality.

I think the Last of us is really the perfect segway into next gen capability and probably Grand Theft Auto V will be as well for what is possible next gen. In respect to Last of us, the game is Linear but it doesn't feel linear because the environments are so detailed and you really don't feel cramped. I think next gen will really expand on this even more, where environment are not only expansive but also populated and feel unique. Open world games are going to be more dynamic and special as npc behavior will be more in depth and varied from person to person. Really excited to play watch dogs in terms of npc interaction.
On current gen, we have all played those open world games that are too open, basically the world feels stale and unpopulated, and you go from mission to mission and you don't really feel a need to explore. I feel next gen will be totally different. It will be more immersive and you will want to explore and go off from the main story more.
Sports games are going to be really interesting as well. Environments and crowds will be more lifelike. That's an area the next gen will open up as the processing power and graphical capabilities will make that possible.Comment

Yeah the next gen is really going to to add to the immersion factor. Graphics wise it won't be as big as a jump as the last generation was, but in terms of overall animations, environmental detail, etc., next gen is really going to blow us away in that regard especially if the developer goes to extra lengths in doing so.

Re: The Division (Xbone/PS4)
Great video, by the way there is something interesting that I have noticed as being common with other games: development time ...
I mean, many of the showed games have claim to be under development for more than a few years, so: is that what we are about to expect from now on ? is it due to devs getting use to the new tech ? is it due to games being exponentialy expanded given the increased next gen ram & processing powers ? is it due to a new trend of quality vs quantity or a focus of combating rentals and use games sales with improvement on quality ?
Anyways, whatever the reason, is just extrange that many games share such higher than normal development times.Comment

But yeah, the art is probably something that takes quite a long time for them as the technology improves.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment
