Re: No Man's Sky
Atlas, again....
SpoilerIt's not a locked-in choice. Once I met the Korvax and Gek inside a space anomaly, I was again given the option to follow that atlas path and this time I accepted. It gave me a waypoint to head towards (several warp jumps away) and once I made it there, I encountered this huge, red, semi-liquidy ball thing which I guess is the Atlas interface. It gave me an Atlas core, a high-value curiosity worth about 60k units, and set up another system of waypoints to another marked destination. So I still don't know what the ultimate goal is and whether it's leading me to the galaxy core or somewhere else. Will find out in due time, I guess. In the meantime I'm going to slow it down a bit and do some actual exploring now.
Unrelated to this, in my wanderings I also acquired a recipe for the v1 Atlaspass, which opens a lot of debris containers and, more importantly, opens the left side door in space stations. So far, EVERY one of those rooms has had an exo-suit upgrade just like the drop pods (at the same cost), but of course they're MUCH easier to find. Those passes don't expire either - it's a permanent in your inventory unless you dismantle it.

Re: No Man's Sky
I feel like this is one of the most honest, and fair, takes I have heard yet. Especially regarding the hype machine and expectations going in. He says the game is the best at what it does in certain aspects but still won't appeal to everybody, essentially.

Re: No Man's Sky
This.....
I did find a planet in my starting system that is covered in Gold formations. I mean literally 200/300 foot tall pillars of gold. I have been mining non stop all evening. I am almost up to 1 million U. Then I am going to buy me this rocking new ship. Its is fully loaded and has 27 open slots for cargo!

Re: No Man's Sky
Game is interesting but buggy. Two freezes in less than an hour. My daughter had to travel forever for this stuff to fix her engine. Finally gets it, mines it and then freeze. Stuff is lost. There is only one save slot and you don't even control it! It's autosave only at certain points making this worse. The lack of control over saves is dumb. I can understand doing it this way to make the universe scary but you better not have it be this glitchy.
I don't think the save system is too bad, it saves every time you exit the ship or do one of the landmark beacon things. It also keeps your two previous saves (it's in the options to load one of the prior two saves).Comment

Re: No Man's Sky
experiencing my first storm, the planets weather is dead wastes and the temp with the storm is almost 150 C which is about 300 F but the upside is there are mounds of gold and vortex cubes. edit: ok so this planet is bipolar...went from 149 C to - 93 C in seconds

You're joking right! This is the most biased Sony Pony on YouTube and he's admitted it numerous times. He even gets paid under the table.

Sony Pony? Don't bring that Crapgamer stuff to OS regardless of how you meant it.

Re: No Man's Sky
Sean Murray's response to whether or not people can meet each other is exactly like being caught in a lie and in the middle of the admission pointing to the sky, screaming "what's that?!" and running away.
Edit. To be fair, since I'm reading it again, he's being super vague and it appears that he's trying to say that the ability to see another player is dependent on online code that isn't working right now.
He's blaming it on overloaded network activity.
Edit2 this probably goes back to my previous comment about finding another player.

Re: No Man's Sky
I love the game. I really do, it's so fun to explore and upgrade and check out different planets and learn language and so on. I've only killed 1 creature and been to about 7 planets and 2 space stations.
One thing I would like to know is it keeps saying I have unclaimed units in the options menu, but I don't see anything. The menus are different and I don't mind them, but there is zero explanation for certain things.
Regarding finding other players, based on the information available since it's initial announcement - this has not been the focus, everyone should have expected a single player game going in. If you didn't know that going in and are disappointed, you have created that disappointment for yourself. 1) it's not even remotely the direction/core concept of the game and 2) even if it's functioning and working well the odds were so remote that it's silly to be disappointed, it's like being upset you didn't win the 1/10000000 chance in the lottery.Liquor in the front, poker in the rear.Comment

Re: No Man's Sky
Crazy hearing about how much money some people have made already in this game. I found some gold on my starter planet, but the most money I've had at any point in time was around 120,000u. Then again, I've spent a decent amount already on suit upgrades, a new weapon, etc.
I flew back to my starter planet this morning...there's one animal left out there for me to find and I'm determined.
Speaking of which, I noticed that it says, for example, "Upload and receive 175,000 units" on one part of the screen; is this something that happens if you identify all forms of life on the planet, including the different rocks and stuff?
In terms of my impressions, I'm really enjoying it so far. I guess we'll have to see how I'm feeling in a week or two, but for now, I'm enjoying scanning all the forms of life I come across, finding knowledge rocks, etc. I think I've learned about 15 words of one alien language so far, which is pretty cool and very helpful when it comes time to make decisions.
