Completely agreed, and I will do the same. I also did what you mentioned with Oblivion. Hundreds of hours, did not complete the main quest, lol.

Have yet to play Skyrim, but thinking of getting the Remaster for PS4, and I am sure I will do just that as well.

235 HOURS? I don't think I can play any one game for that long...

I'm a bit biased towards this game but I have probably around 400 or so hours in a modded Fallout New Vegas. I love modding it to a more desolate survivalist game with brutal difficulty and lots of real world guns!

Have sunk gobs of time into Skyrim as well. Where everyone was racing to beat the game and post it online I was moving at a snail's pace and enjoying myself. My wife loves to watch me play so that slows it down a bit as well.

So I know exactly where you are coming from.

I definitely agree with what you are saying, I never even finished the Skyrim main story missions. Same thing with Witcher 3 and I have 100+ hours in both those games.

Somebody could counter and say that NMS isn't set up with a questing structure like those RPGs are, which is true, but at the same time there is a similar style of "play YOUR way, at YOUR pace" going on with this game. As has been commented already, a couple of us have noted that while watching streams it seems like a couple guys are just hopping on a planet, checking out one thing, and dipping. That is definitely not how I am going to play it, I kept saying "dang I wonder what is over there, or there, or there" while watching one stream and so much was left undiscovered.

I know the game tracks everything you discover and I the "rename and upload" mechanic has always sounded cool to me from the beginning. I want to try to discover as many new species and landmarks as possible. It would be cool if it gave you an alert or a notification of some sort whenever something you discovered was found or interacted with by someone else, considering how rare that is supposed to be.

There was talk of modding on PC wasn't there, I know we can't even get confirmation of the release date from them, but was there ever anything more than a passing mention of modding?

Considering we are within the one week countdown now and N.A. Steam hasn't changed the release date I am gonna go ahead and lock myself in, mentally, for the 9th on PC. Hope that isn't foolish of me....

This has been logged for going on 3 years.

I probably put in 75ish hours the first 3 months the game came out (Skycrack I called it).

                    100 hours in year 2

And sprinkled in 35 plus hours over the course of 2015 and 2016.

It has been a journey. It's the kind of game you can always step away from and then come back and resume. I do this with the Far Cry titles, as well as Fallout 4 (70 plus hours into that one since it's release) and Dying Light (35% complete and will go back and finish one day).

That's why I love sandbox games. I can play at my pace and make my own narrative for the most part.

I am a sports gamer at heart and pour the most time into the The Show and more recently Madden 16 (first year round Madden I have played since 2007 PS2). Too many games and not enough hours!!

NMS will be a game I can play for years if it gives me enough depth and variety to adventure the galaxy like Skyrim did with it's amazing landscapes. I am hoping it can hold my interest even without a formal questing system.

We shall soon find out. I will know after 10-15 hours if this game is truly going to be sustainable and viable for the long term.

I had this plan where I was gonna always be snapping screenshots I would keep a "Captains Log" journal I would update every other day or so and treat it the same way people treat doing their Franchise, CFM, Dynasty (you know what I mean) mode threads on OS. Not sure if it will be worth it though but I really just wanna get immersed in my own space exploration "story" for lack of a better word.

I'm gonna wait for you guys to give some reviews on it before I buy it.
Looks like its a different type of game, and something the wifey will like, so I would like to get it.

So the guy posted like a 40 minute review/final stream

Super spoilerly. Do not watch unless you want to have key details of the game exposed/potentially ruined.

his review segment of the game pretty much sums up a lot of thing already said in this thread.

Sounds like a really great exploration game, which is all I am looking for.

That's nothing, I'm at 904 hours in Destiny. That's probably not something I should be admitting.
