    Re: No Man's Sky

Sean Murray's excitement on twitter is amazing.

This guy really loves this game and you can see how fearful he was that people would hate it. Has to feel good to put so much work into something and see such an overwhelming positive response.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

"You'll not find more penny-wise/pound-foolish behavior than in Major League Baseball." - Rob Neyer

Screw it.... I will be buying this soon. I love developers who actually care like Sean and his team, as well as CD Projekt Red.

Only got about 45 min in...but I'm hooked for now. Got my ship repaired, just gotta energize/fuel. Saw a lot of life and a few spots I want to go back and check out further (a cave). Excited to explore this planet fully, but more excited to see what others have in store.

I gotta say, I feel like Mr. Murray slightly misled some people. He claimed the chances of running into another player are very slim in such a larger universe.....But that kinda makes it seems like it is still possible.

No. It's not possible. The game does not support it in anyway.

Not a big deal but I have seen a lot of people confused by this and it looks to me like Sean sort of led them on.

Do we really know that yet? I still think being on the same server or not is the issue with the Psytokat guy and the other player.

I'm going to get this game, though I'm not sure if PC or PS4 is the way to go. Anyone have any input on this? I know the PC version was delayed until next week, so if I don't want to wait I'll go with PS4, I just didn't know if there was going to be any significant difference on the various platforms.

If FOV is a big thing for you go PC. I've got the PS4 version and I find its a bit of a problem. Not a deal breaker but just kind of uncomfortable.

There was a couple streams going on earlier today where two players were trying to meet up with each other. Turns out they were in the same exact spot but still couldn't see each other. Later, it appears one of them was actually playing offline!

But still, it would be nice to confirm what occurs when you cross paths - if both players are playing online.

Like I said, I wouldn't put a ton of faith in two players who seemed to be clueless as to what they were doing.

As someone mentioned before, not needing the Consoles "Gold/Platinum" service is kinda the writing on the wall. The server is not "ticking" your position in the game, that is all handled locally. The only communication is some point after you name something, than that goes out to the server and other people can see it.

That tweet in particular bothers me. You cannot "see" another player in this game, but he made it seem like if your reallllly lucky, and god knows people where going to attempt it (i.e.: see release day), you could find another player.

Wasn't expecting to be able to meet people in any traditional sense. I was thinking it might happen more like the ghosts in Dark Souls.

That said, it could be like mmo games that are all instanced, like 25-50 players are grouped in one instance, etc...

Either that or something is messed up due to release day server load.

Online is definitely messed up to some degree, I'm constantly seeing the "you have lost connection to online services" message even though my internet is obviously up. So yeah, probably server trouble. Whether that's related to why people can't meet each other...who knows.
