Power cores have zero weight (I thought I checked that last night) so I'd just remove core when you're done to be safe.

I read that if you exit one at a base near the rigging or whatever it'll attach to that naturally, but there's no "docking" option. I haven't tried this yet myeslf.

Evidently when you use some parts of an item in crafting, the unused parts go to your workbench. Hopefully that saves you the trouble of dragging everything back to your settlement to manually deconstruct.

I think read that you have to manually power the rack to be able to hang the armor.

Yeah...and it's a UI glitch that made people think you lost parts. So I can do the "transfer all junk" option and it works fine.

Trying to build up my base with the small group of minutemen early in game. Got beds and water supply. Now they want food. How do I do this? Find something like a carrot and stick in the ground? Or do I need seeds?

There's a way to plant food but I don't know personally...haven't had enough time playing.

Exactly right. There are plants and food items growing randomly all over the place; pick some gourds, tatos, carrots, or corn then plant them in dirt in your settlement. You can assign one settler to work something like 12 crops if they are all produce 0.5 worth of food, or six crops of 1.

When I was in that yard I heard an excited bark from dogmeat. Turned around and he had a Fatman in his mouth. Not sure where he dug that up from but thanks!

Is the base building and crafting an essential part of this game? I have never really been into either one, and fiddling with the base building last night, it seemed super time consuming. Am I going to miss a lot of I just ignore that stuff?

I haven't really bothered with it. Not my thing either. From what I've read it's completely optional.

The first suit you get I was able to get all the way back to sanctuary before the battery died. I walked up to the rack trying to mount it and didn't get any option so I just jumped out of it right in front of the rack. I went on my way and next time I was back to sanctuary it was actually hanging on the rack mounted. I don't know how that happened
