Re: Alien Isolation (PC, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3 & PS4)
The length worries me that it might get too repetitive. Hiding from the xenomorph sounds like it would be fun if it was an 8-10 hour game. Have a feeling that the 2nd half of the game might be a slog.
They probably felt pressured to make it 20+ hours in order to charge $60 for it, whereas Amnesia is fine as a 8 hour game since they only charge $15 for it.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Re: Alien Isolation (PC, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3 & PS4)
Graphics and sound are real nice so far on PC. I'm about an hour into it and the atmosphere and ship designs are both great.
We'll see how this game holds up once the bad guy(s) start appearing, because I am playing on "hard" difficulty and haven't encountered any hostiles yet.
The only disappointment so far is that it didn't recognize my PS4 controller, so I am playing with the Xbox 360 controller instead.Last edited by jyoung; 10-06-2014, 05:42 PM.Comment

Please keep impressions coming. I have a 20% of coupon for PC version and just not sure whether to jump or not especially with other games on the horizon.Joshua:

Re: Alien Isolation (PC, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3 & PS4)
Spoiler-heavy impressions:
SpoilerSo I guess there's no way to trigger the Alien for the first hour, as I was experimenting by running around as loudly as possible and it never showed up. That kind of kills the tension for the opening solitary sections.
In the second hour, you'll meet some friendly and hostile humans, which hurts the atmosphere of the game a bit. I guess if you liked Alien 3, it kind of gives off that Alien 3 vibe, with some humans being your friends and some being your enemies.
The Alien finally shows up in a cutscene at the end of that part, and then it's back to being all by your lonesome, which is the best part of the game so far. I am hoping that the Alien has been "let loose" into the game world now. I'll find out after dinner.
Also, I swear I heard a cat meowing off in the distance in the cargo terminal part, around the area where you get the door jack -- that was a nice nod to Alien.Last edited by jyoung; 10-06-2014, 08:50 PM.Comment

Re: Alien Isolation (PC, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3 & PS4)
So far this game feels like it can't seem to decide whether it wants to be Alien (you vs. the creature) or Alien 3 (you and the good humans vs. the bad humans vs. the creature).
It kind of sucks when it's being all Alien 3, but it's real tense when it's just you, the giant space ship, and the Alien. I haven't even seen the xeno yet outside of one cutscene and I'm still freaking out playing this, because you can hear it (or at least something) moving around a lot.
I'm going to stop playing now before I finally meet the xeno face to face (it feels like I've been stalked for a while now) and ruin my chances of sleeping well tonight.Last edited by jyoung; 10-06-2014, 11:34 PM.Comment

Re: Alien Isolation (PC, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3 & PS4)
Just picked up the game. Excited to play it but want to dabble with NBA first when I get the chance. However, I found a Guide where you can find many hidden weapons/upgrades from this site. Don't open if you don't have to. But if you need help because your dying consistently, this may help lessen your frustrations.
Spoiler
Maintenance Jack – You cannot miss this because you need it for the story. You will find this in the Immigration Office Cells on a dead body. You will need to climb through a vent to get there.
Flashlight – You get this in Axel’s room, can’t miss it.
Revolver – You can find the Revolver in the Lorenz Systech Spire, in the Facility Control part. It is in the Tech Support room on the table. Hold the reload button to fully reload this weapon.
After you lose your weapons you can find the Revolver again. Once you get to the Central Reactor of the Engineering Deck look next to the vending machine. On the box next to a tape recorder you can will see it.
Stun Baton – You can find this in the Medical Facility jammed into the Environmental Control door. This is very useful against androids. You will need a battery pack to use this.
Gas Torch – After you escape the Medical Center and return to Samuels you will meet some Marshals. They need you to restart the tram so you can get out of the area. After you take the elevator up use the computers on the maintenance deck and the screens will go red. When that happens a door near the elevator will open and a guy with a gun will come out. Kill the guy and go back into that room to find the torch on the workbench.
You get an upgrade to this while you are Restoring Access To Distribution in Gemini Exoplanet Solutions. The upgrade is under the camera on a dead body.
The last upgrade is found on the Engineering Floor of the Maintenance Deck. It is in the room on the left in the Workshop area.
Flamethrower – You get this in the Marshal’s office after you play as a prisoner. This will keep the Alien off your back if it sees you. Fuel may seem limited but I have yet to run out unless I intentionally hold the trigger for way to long.
You get this again on your way to the Central Reactor. After you come down the elevator you can see it on a crate before the Alien cave.
Shotgun After you trap the Alien and return to the Sevastopol station you can get the Shotgun on the way back to the Marshal. When you exit the Airlock there will be a doorway with some steps that lead down to a body. That body has the key card you need to exit and the Shotgun.
You can find the Shotgun again after you lose your weapons on your way to the Central Reactor. After you climb the first ladder in that area you can see it leaning on a crate.
Bolt Gun – You can find the Bolt Gun on the Maintenance Deck. When you get the objective Unlock The Shutter you will end up at a console. Next to that console there gun is on the table. This is a single shot charge weapon.
Hiding isn't the only way you can survive in Alien Isolation. If you look around enough you will be able to find weapons to help you keep the Alien back. This guide will help you find the weapons as you go along. Check it out.

Re: Alien Isolation (PC, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3 & PS4)
I'm quite happy with this game so far. About two hours in, and I love the atmosphere, the gameplay and the graphics. I look forward to playing this hopefully several times. This game would be insane in 3D. I really hope Tridef releases an update soon.TB Lightning | Liverpool | Panathinaikos | Toronto FC

Re: Alien Isolation (PC, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3 & PS4)
I will say this. If you enjoyed Outlast than this game will be right up your alley with a higher budget and more engaging story. As mentioned, the atmosphere, graphics, and gameplay thus far have been very good. To me, this is considered a "video game movie" is what I can best describe it. It's now fifteen years later since Ripley gives her report after going into deep sleep.
NOTES:

For PS4 Camera and Kinect owners, you can activate a peek around (head tracking) when prompted to peek around areas when your scared s###, and noise distribution (sounds in your room that can alert enemies) if you wish to activate.

If you wish to play "Last Survivor" (DLC) first, it informs you that doing so can ruin surprises in Isolation. Just an FYI.

Re: Alien Isolation (PC, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3 & PS4)
The cut-scenes are really nice, but I am experiencing some stuttering and hiccups when mine playback...has anyone else experienced this? It really takes away from what's been an enjoyable experience so far.Originally posted by Edmund BurkeAll that is needed for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.Comment

Not in the PC version I havent. I experienced some jumpiness and sever screen tearing, I turned on v-sync and the game not only looks smoother it actually plays flawlessly.TB Lightning | Liverpool | Panathinaikos | Toronto FC

Re: Alien Isolation (PC, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3 & PS4)
Was curious what some others did in the situation where....
SpoilerFollowing Axel's death you come into a room where a woman shoots at you and then calls in her 3 friends as backup. I killed each one of these people to take their supplies. I was wondering if anyone left them alive and then when you're in that room w/ the alien, if it helped to have those people alive to distract the alien.Originally posted by Edmund BurkeAll that is needed for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.Comment
