Re: Evolve (PC, XB1, PS4)

Turtle Rock Studios already revealed plans for Evolve's monstrous amount of downloadable content prior to the game's launch, but even that doesn't include the more than $130 worth of skins and cosmetic items up for sale.

The game's Xbox One DLC hub spans four pages and includes 44 items that can be purchased a la carte. A quick breakdown: 24 are priced at $1.99, nine priced at $2.99, eight priced at $4.99 and three priced at $6.99 for a total of $135.56.

None of that is included in the game's season pass or the DLC associated with it.

WOW........I feel sorry for parents with young kids because you know they are going to want ALL of the DLC. Especially when they see their favorite Youtuber with it.

I just hope that the mass amount of DLC (none of which is required, except the free maps) doesn't scare everyone off from what's been a really fun and unique experience, at least on my end. I've probably put in about 6 to 8 hours already since Monday night and it's super fun on both sides.

It's really too bad they seemed to make the DLC such a big part of the marketing and overall brand awareness of the game. It's such a fun game on it's own and that's all they should have been talking about.

Hopefully studios will learn a little bit from this at least and not tell everyone how much DLC they will have OVER A YEAR BEFORE THE GAME COMES OUT and just shut up and say "yes we will continue to work on the game after release and there are plans for DLC that we will announce later."

Every company does though. Every Call of Duty game that comes out, you know it will be no less then 4 or 5 DLCs coming out for it way before the game itself comes out, along with the names of the DLC. It was the same way with Destiny and WWE 2K15, everybody knew DLC was coming out for it and how much of it was too.

DLC is the norm now, so it won't scare anybody away. DLC is a guaranteed cash cow for companies. Sure majority of it isn't necessary, but the sad truth is most kids will buy it. Hell just think of all the DLC Minecraft and Little Big Planet 3 have, they have DOZENS.

All true, everybody knows there will be DLC for these games but that's because their annual franchises. I'm just talking about how the publisher/studio specifically was talking about this game which is a new IP and trying to make the DLC as part of the reason to buy from day one when they announced it in early 2014.

COD/WWE and all those games will announce there will be DLC on day one and post release but at least go through the motions of promoting the game itself for a while and then as soon as it's out starting the DLC hype train.

            Edit: Minor addition

Basically announcing a game is "built from the ground up to support DLC" is a terrible terrible way to promote game from day one and whoever came up with that strategy should probably not come up with marketing plans for many more video games.

You are wrong, I've read quite a few online comments about ppl saying the DLC turned them off from a purchase.

As cake612 said, the devs pushed the DLC in a bad way. Putting the cart before the horse applies here...

I won't fulfill my pre-order. I might eventually pick this up, but I still haven't finished AC: Unity, Blackflag, or Watch Dogs...not to mention Dying Light....

I haven't had such fun being utter crap at a game in a long while. Thank goodness for the solo mode, I am not ready to be online at all. So far my minimal success has been as the Hunter...haven't tried medic yet at all.

I've only done solo mode so far, but man this game is intense. Finally beat the CPU as a monster. Not ready to go online yet. I can only guess it wouldn't end pretty .

I've done that, even did a misdirection (knock down trees, tracks and birds) in one corner while farming another. I usually make it to the third stage but not without several confrontations in between. I think I'm 2-4 now, with one loss being me getting into a game 90% of the way over as a monster I never used before.

Turned me off on it for sure. I had the funds to get one game and it was between Evolve and Dying Light. I enjoyed the Evolve Beta but knew that I would be spending much more than $ 60 to get the full potential out of this game.

Maybe when a price drop comes around we'll see, but with MKX and Witcher on the horizon, mya not even get this at all.

A shame too b/c I love monsters in games like this.

I think the ala cart idea is fantastic IF it drives retail prices down.

If the game sold for $30 but you can pick and choose what addons you want/needed. That is a win win for both developers and gamers.

Gamer = lower entry price point, ability if their desire to shape the game how they want.

Developer - Will make more on retail sales at lower price point, plus millions on DLC sales.

I believe DLC is bad as a global thing, but its not going away. Consoles need to incorporate a steam like pricing structure and digital sales combined with DLC options seems like a possible solution.
