Re: Batman: Arkham Knight
I'll never forget how good Batman Arkham Asylum is. But the mediocrity of this game won't fail to disappoint me for months and months to come. AK could have been special. What we've got is a slog of busywork repetition and we deserved better for the end to this series.
To not like the game maybe I could understand even though I probably couldn't, but to call it "mediocre" and "a disgrace"...you've gotta be kidding me.
"The story is a mess" How? How is the story a mess? The true ending being hidden behind the 100% completion bar is a poor decision I agree, only because when I finished the story I had done everything except for the Riddler trophies and got no ending at all, so I had to get the 100%. Having seen the 100% ending, it makes sense that it went the way it did, as the ending doesn't make sense unless all of the criminals are in GCPD.
"All of the side missions revolve around mindless busy-work, with sparse plots and extremely repetitive gameplay." The side missions take advantage of different parts of the gameplay, some driving, some tanking, some predatoring, some being a detective...that's Batman. What do you want in the side missions, full on DLC stories? You keep mentioning Arkham Asylum as your favorite in the series, that game didn't even have side missions. What do you want from them?
"Most side missions are blocked off unless you discover the location organically" They're blocked off until you hit certain points in the main story, at which point they are opened up again.
But my favorite part is when you refer to Batman as a "time wasting affair filled to the gills with filler" and then in the next section put forward The Witcher to play. That's a completely different type of game. You're going from a game that's shining factor is it's combat and movement to a game with awful combat and terrible movement mechanics. The Witcher is known for it's world and lore, Batman is not an RPG! The worst part of the Witcher is playing it, and that's the best part of Batman. This is like being mad at the Batmobile controls and then saying they should be as good as ****ing Forza.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Re: Batman: Arkham Knight
Again, just stand there and wait for your counter opportunities. Once you run up on him and hit him, he'll turn to swing at you with the gun. This'll take you into a slow motion sequence. Counter the first swipe which I think is like a upward swing he takes. He'll pause for a moment before swinging back downward, hit counter again. After a quick pause he'll come at you with another swipe, hit counter when you see it coming and then I think there's one final swing he'll take, counter when you see it coming and the last counter he'll knock the guy out with.Comment

Re: Batman: Arkham Knight
The big tank mission at the end where there is 7 of them is just killing this game for me. I have a long holiday weekend with nothing to do and I can't even play this game bc i have already spent close to 2 hours trying to beat it. It's singly handly enough for me to tell people not to buy this gameRetro Redemption - Starting over with a oldschool PowerBone Offense

Warner Bros Interactive has announced Batman:Arkham Knight’s first story-driven downloadable content. The new playable story, Batgirl: A Matter of Family, will let players assume the mantle of Batgirl for the first time ever in the Batman Arkham series.

Taking advantage of Barbara’s cyber-prowess, the game will feature a new hacking system where Batgirl must solve puzzles and mind-teasers in order to progress through the story. Additionally, Batgirl can team up with Robin in the Dual Play mode for unique twosome take-downs.
Coming to Playstation 4 and Xbox One, Batgirl: A Matter of Family arrive on July 14 at no charge for Batman: Arkham Knight Season Pass subscribers. Everyone else will have to wait until July 21 for the additional cost of $6.99Comment

Re: Batman: Arkham Knight
This game has been great to me! Loving the Batmobile sucks that y'all are not liking it much. Only time I hated using it was the Arkham Knight mission and theSpoilerDeathstroke mission... though that one isn't as bad because you can shoot him full on.
Other than that though driving in it or fighting the regular tanks was massive amount of fun for sure. That final Riddler driving mission was insane I 3 Star'ed it but my goodness did that piss me off.
Overall highly enjoyed this game. And if Rocksteady ever remakes AC they MUST add in Fear takedowns and every new gadget combo in this game. lolComment

Re: Batman: Arkham Knight
I think some have said otherwise but I've enjoyed the riddler trials. Unlocked the 5th key today. Some are easy, some make me think, some have completely stumped me; a riddler trophy behind a structurally weak wall that I can't seem to get to to shoot explosive gel onto, I think I may have to fire it while flying but I haven't unlocked that gadget skill yet....Originally posted by Edmund BurkeAll that is needed for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.Comment

Re: Batman: Arkham Knight
Arkham Origins was great IMO. The multiplayer was one of the best MP experiences in terms of actual gameplay, but matchmaking was atrocious. For all the gripes Origins gets I never found it glitchy, and I never had any save issues or the like. There's still stuff I need to do in that game, like complete my playthrough for the "I am the Night Mode" achievement.Originally posted by Edmund BurkeAll that is needed for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing.Comment

I literally read this post and then sat staring at my monitor for like 5 minutes. I can't believe this is a real post.

Consider the Riddler trophies. You literally cannot complete all of them without certain upgrades and sealed-off-to-story-progression equipment. Which again, means I'll have to backtrack later. How can anyone consider that fun?
I should never be forced to 100% a game with over 300 activities to see the game to completion. Not when that content is arbitrarily sealed off, mostly has no story, and requires specific pieces of equipment I may or may not have at certain points in time.
My original goal was to do everything as I progressed the story and time it to where I could get the endings all in succession right at the very end (or close to it). I had a feeling some of it would be too hard when I came across it, which is ok for games with skill upgrades, but I had no idea I also wouldn't be able to do some of it because the game didn't give me the tools I needed. That's like a double slap in the face and it's just plain disrespectful to the player's time.
Anyway, please know I appreciate the back and forth on this, by the way. I love how on OS we can debate things but harbor no bad blood. It's the best of the gaming culture all wrapped into a tight knit community of passionate people. I'm honestly really glad you like AK the way I really wanted to.Comment

It's been awhile since I've seen people this divided on a game. I'm just glad I enjoyed it as much as I did.Originally posted by bradtxmaleI like 6 inches. Its not too thin and not too thick. You get the support your body needs.

Re: Batman: Arkham Knight
I've enjoyed the game. I think it suffers from the same problems as Arkham City, but just on a bigger scale and with too much focus on a single gadget. The map may be big, but it really feels empty. This is especially true since you're mainly speeding though or gliding over the map the majority of the game. The story feels more contained and doesn't suffer from the kitchen sink syndrome that AC did, but it still feels disjointed and leaves plenty of questions. It's clear Rocksteady understands Joker and the Frank Miller style of Batman. All the other characters feel like one off encounters and bit pieces.
Heroes' criticism is valid. From a gameplay perspective the game is fairly balanced. Missions are dedicated to a single facet of Batman's repertoire. Unfortunately, each respective mission is the exact same as the previous. There's no narrative or emotional investment in completing the Most Wanted Missions with the choice exception being the arson and Man-Bat cases. Two-Face is a two bit bank robber that is easily seduced into emerging? Penguin is storing guns and goes through the same routine.
As much flak as Origins gets it's boss encounters are the best of the series. Rocksteady is great at designing gameplay, but their open world and boss battles leave more to be desired.
