Re: Cities: Skylines
Actually I can't since my city has virtually no crime. Criminals need a buff...

Re: Cities: Skylines
Yeah that is my current gripe with this game, not enough crime or incentive to have a lot of police stations. I also don't like how fires don't spread from house to house.Comment

Re: Cities: Skylines
So I take it people haven't been able to actually mod how the game plays yet, if people think Crime is too low? I wonder if that will even be possible, and how open the code is for things like that to be modified. Of course there's the possibility of an actual patch too.
Personally I'd like to see random disasters make it in at some point (more than just fire).Comment

Re: Cities: Skylines
Eventually people will mod in more crime. Currently most of the mods are visual. I am really amazed how many mods there are already to be honest. The devs will probably patch it in after they do the tunnels.Comment

Re: Cities: Skylines
Just downloaded this last night after reading through this thread yesterday. My laptop isnt built for games, that for sure, but I'm able to run this thing with some of the settings knocked down a bit, looks good still.
Seems to be fun, had some initial issues getting people to move in. Now they're slowly moving in though. Had my little town up to around 1000 people.
My only complaint, running pipes. I just find it mind numbing and a waste of time. I like how the latest sim city got rid of that, or just ran them along with roads automatically. Just seems like some tedious work that's relatively pointless. I hated doing it in the old sim city days, and I still hate it
All in all though, I've got to spend alot more time with this, hopefully tonight. Get a better feel for how it works and explore all the menu's and options. All I basically did yesterday was some roads, some zones, power, water, the very basics.
How can I build bigger zones? It would only let me make small zones in pre arranged spots along the roads that were pretty narrow. Can I make them bigger, or is that just the way it is in this game and I need to run my roads closer together?Miami Dolphins - Detroit Red Wings - Toronto Blue Jays - Michigan Wolverines - CANADAComment

Re: Cities: Skylines
If the zones are too small between roads, then the roads are too close. If there are no roads touching the zone and you feel it is too small, I don't believe there is any way to make them larger.
I am assuming you mean the latter and want your zones to stretch farther back from the roads?“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

Re: Cities: Skylines
Yes, I spaced out my roads a decent ways apart, then zoned area's residential, but they only go back a few "squares" leaving me with empty spaces between my zones on either side of roads. They dont seem to stretch back far from the roads. I played around with it a bit more last night and it seems I just need my roads closer together, unless I'm missing something. If the zones are too small between roads, then the roads are too close. Things were going good, got up to a population of around 10k. Then... it plummeted down to about 4500. People were dying left and right. I have no idea why. Nothing came up in the "twitter feed", pollution isn't an issue. I started viewing some of my residential buildings and saw it breaks it down by ages. Looks like my people were just getting old, and dying! No kids replacing them... so... uh... how do I get my sims to bang?!
I'm at a loss for how to get the population to continue. At that point, I just shut it down for the night. I have schools, I have cops, fire, healthcare, all green power, everything is watered and electrified. It was strange.

The biggest culprit for sudden population loss seems to be dirty drinking water, I would really look at the location of your intake pipes. Even a little poop water can kill thousands.
