Back from vacation and finally able to play.

Any tips or tricks for first time players that people have picked up after a week of play?

Picked this up for PC last night and got in around 6 or 7 matches (made it to level 5). Wow is this game a blast! Anyone on PC, lets team up because we will need a full team on discord to really take advantage of the strategy in this.

So I quickly ran through the last few pages and this is the names I have to add this evening.

This shows you how long its been since I've played a Blizzard game. Last night was first time I've ever installed blizzard "steam like" client system. So I don't know what my username # is until I get home.

I will be adding as many overwatch buddies from here as I can though, because this is one of those games you must be teaming up with friends.

Back from vacation and finally able to play.

Any tips or tricks for first time players that people have picked up after a week of play?

Few tips

1. Watch cynical nerds on YouTube. This will help understand characters you are interested in and understand the heroes you are playing against.

2. Turn on dolby atmos in sound options and use headset if on PC. This really does help identify noises and threats. If you hear loud footsteps to you right, there is going to be an enemy there. Also try to learn ultimate call outs for each hero so you can react. Sound is very very important in the game.

3. Do not just run in to a group of four enemies by yourself. You will most likely die and just feed their ultimates. There are exceptions but you will understand after playing a while.

4. Play the objectives. Kill death ratios are not everything. You will lose if your team does not capture points and stay on them or ignores the payload.

5. the payload heals you if you are by it.

6. Pick a character you like and have fun playing. But I suggest you learn 1 hero from each category, offense, defense, tank, and support. Hero switching is incredibly important. Sbauer and I had a game last night where the payload was 5 meters from the end and our team changed composition and I believe we held them at that spot for 5 minutes. The other team was pretty much crushing us up until that point.

7. If you can find people to play with and communicate with, it will help tremendously.

Good games last night. Last two nights is the first time I played with a group of people good stuff. I'll get my mic going next time and make sure my wife isn't asleep on the couch beside me. Jare and Candy, who else from OS did we roll with?

I was on til 12:45ish eastern. My mic wasn't working though. That game where they all went Reaper and the one Mercy was like the first un-fun game I've played.

I'm still not sure what the best way would have been to counter that

I wasn't there of course, but probably fighting fire with fire and switching to a bunch of McCrees. Reaper's only good up close, and when McCree tosses a flashbang at him + fan the hammer it's lights out.

Have to stay grouped up though, because it's probably really easy to get ambushed by 2 or more of them solo. And if the only thing they can hit you with is DIE DIE DIE, you're probably going to win easily.

Mercy falls just as easily to a fan the hammer combo too.

There's probably going to be a lot of situations where mass counterpicking a group is going to be the only way to beat them.

That definitely is a good idea. One guy on our team thought we should have gone Pharah and just rained hell from above, my first thought was we go in with 2 or 3 Reinhardt/bastion combos and just go bulletstorm on them with linked shields or protect. McCree is a good option as well

Pharrah's will own reaper. Nothing he can do with her. Tracer will also cause reaper fits. Don't get me wrong, I have killed tracers as reaper, but a well played tracer will abuse reaper. Lastly McCree and his stun fan the hammer can be effective. Reaper is great at taking out tanks so I would not counter heavily with tanks. His shotguns at close range will chew through reinhardt. Mobility with Lucio healing causes reaper issues as he can't get close enough to Lucio to take him out consistently.

I was just listening to what you guys said because I had only played for 5-6 hours, And switched to Zarya, whom I had never used before. It was a bad decision. LOL.

On the flipside, I played a game and a half as Soldier for the first time with you guys, and absolutely wrecked. He isn't that fun to use though.
