I don't have a specific order, but I think the five best games I played on PS3 are The Last of Us, Uncharted 2/3 (I can't decide which), L.A. Noire, Spec Ops: The Line, and God of War III. Special mention goes to LittleBigPlanet 2 and Sonic Generations, both of which are wonderful games that nearly make the list.

Wow...tough one. So many great games from the PS3. I am breaking a rule by doing non sports games and sports games. Completely different for me. I can't lump them in. It is not the same in any way.


1. Skyrim - still playing this gem and sunk well over 230 hours into my first and only character! Still playing through the main storyline (almost done) and the Dark Brotherhood. Still have not touched Dragonborn and Dawn Guard. This is game is to me the greatest RPG ever made bar none.

2. The Last Of Us - One of the greatest video game experiences I have ever played through. A truly remarkable survival horror game with the utmost quality in sound, graphics, and the best voice acting I ever had the pleasure of playing on the medium.

3. Mass Effect 2 - This was my first foray into the ME universe and still rings the brightest and best for me. I loved this 7 samurai take on the epic sci-fi action/RPG

4. Far Cry 3 - I just finished up the main story line and still have plenty left to run around and do (medical supply runs, wanted missions and hunting missions). An enormous map, tremendous graphics, tight and awesome controls.

5. Dead Space - This is the best sci-fi horror game to date for me (playing through Alien Isolation as I type this and am loving it but it is a totally different game). Dead Space is truly horrific, and highly challenging. The rest of the series is also top notch and must play for the last generation.


Honorable mention - Batman AA and AC, Borderlands 1 and 2, Red Dead Redemption, Dragon Age Origins, XCOM Enemy Unknown, Dragons Dogma Arisen, Deus Ex, Dishonored, Fallout 3, Mass Effect 3, The Walking Dead Season One, Uncharted series.


Sports Games

1. MLB The Show 14 - The last version for me on last gen before I picked up 14 for the PS4, it brought us the very best ball physics, and Quick Counts. The game was flat out amazing yet again and the best version yet.

2. NBA 2K11 - I played this all the way up to the PS4 version of 2K15. This game is legendary.

3. NCAA 14 - Hands down the best football title on the last gen and one of the 3 best ever IMO. I still love and play this game.

4. Fight Night 4 - A great boxing game IMO. Not really sim, but about as close as I got to being a sim boxing game on the consoles. With all my CAB boxers I am able to recreate so many classic fights as well as "what if" matches.

5. College Hopps 2K8 - Legacy mode is an amazing mode, although it is dated and really showing it's age, it is a great game of hoops and legacy mode is deep, deep, deep!!!

I've been thinking about this ever since I bought a PS3 a couple weeks ago and have been deciding which games I rebuy that I had on X360 to replay on the PS3.

To keep it simple for me I'm going to keep all series together rather than break them out.


Uncharted

Compared to the rest of the series Drake's Fortune is probably understated and not as "Big Bang," but man it hooked me hard. The story is straightforward enough, but enticing enough to make me push forward with stopping only long enough to take in the huge locations and beautiful sights. The gun gameplay is tight, but lowkey for a pop and cover focused mechanic. Platforming is fairly linear. Each aspect on its own is low-key and nonchalant, but the whole package was just mesmerizing to me. Exploring and clamoring up ancient ruins in these massive sets really made Nathan Drake come alive as Crash 2.0 to me.

And then the beginning of Uncharted 2. Oh my. Turn Drake's Fortune low-key quality on its butt because that was some blockbuster level design. More refined gameplay and a story that felt more nuanced, but also upping the ante on the massive platforming set pieces and action sequences. The series just "gets" that feeling of watching Indiana Jones and wanting to be in those shoes. Exploring and pushing towards the end for the treasure. Climbing and scaling ruins. Action that is tight and fun. A cast of characters that almost seems trite initially, but come into their own mold.

Talk about consistency. These games probably represent the best movie IP linked games ever made. Star Wars. Indiana Jones. Harry Potter. Lord of the Rings. Pirates of the Caribbean. Not to mention the DC/Batman and Marvel games. Some may wipe these away since they're simplistic and kid's games, but they are a blast of platforming that seems to becoming more and more rare among AAA games. It amazes me that after so many iterations the games still manage to not commit the pitfall of simply being the same gameplay with a different IP slapped onto it. Each IP series gets to the core of each property and its respective characters to bring out the heart. The comedy of the Star Wars games, Superman and Batman's interactions, and the crack of Indy's whip are some of my favorite moments of last gen.

Arkham Batman

I don't think the impact of Arkham Asylum can be overstated or the "out of left field" feeling you get while playing it. Almost out of thin air an excellent Batman game finally presented itself to a thirsty fanbase and it gave us an experience that still lingers in the back of my mind. From the start Asylum created a tense atmosphere with Joker at the helm. Despite the anti-climatic nature of the final showdown, the gameplay and simple, yet fun beat-em-up mechanics brought this Batman alive. Not to mention those trippy Scarecrow segments that seemingly came out of nowhere to freak us all out thinking our console had just malfunctioned.

Asylum will always be my favorite of the series, but City blew it all open giving us a map large enough to roam with enough content to explore every corner of it. The story may not been as good or memorable, but the scope of it was perfect.

Mass Effect

Whether or not the end of ME3 left you gutpunched or pissed off in a daze of wonderment doesn't really have any bearing to me on the series as a whole. Sure, the shift away from its RPG roots into a more streamlined, action friendly dynamic wasn't something I especially enjoyed, but the experience of the whole series is unparalleled. Shaping and guiding the overall story itself while also crafting and maintaining relationships with your crew was fantastic. Wrap it all up in a space blanket with some action RPG gameplay and it just worked.

Far Cry 3

If all the game had to offer was its beautiful, inhabited map and fun FPS gameplay then it would still be on the list. In addition to the sheer enjoyment and entertainment of rampaging through tropical beaches and forests, liberating outposts with an endless array of weapons and strategy, hunting and crafting upgrades, setting foliage aflame, and getting wrapped up in the beauty of the map, there's a legitimate story and character progression thrown in for good measure. Rampage through the heart of darkness with a psychotically magnetizing villain waiting to jump out of every tree and bush.

I originally got this game just to have a xbox status saying I was playing a game no one knew about[some truth to it], but my love for micro-management in sports game actually made me pick it up without knowing a thing about soccer[only watch world cup 06 highlights before this game]. I actually became addicted to how much control you can have in this game and eventually caved in and got my first game on PC since the first Sims.

I’m not the type of gamer who usually replay story modes in game and in this generation I think I did it with Prey and figure out achievements are not really my thing. XCOM on the other hand is a game I had to buy twice just for the story mode [XBOX 360 & Surface].

A trading card game mix with monopoly was something I never thought I would play, but tried it out and have to admit while the online community lasted I had fun with it. I really do want to see this game come back for the current gen, but due to the fact that matches could last anywhere between 10 – 180 minutes will make it hard to appeal to a bigger audience if they do bring it back.

The multiplayer [which was a feature I thought I would never play] allowed me to spend over a year playing a rpg and never put more than 10 hours into the single player.

The game was simple, fun, and addicting. I have to say where mostly everything about last gen for me was playing games online that this game was one of the few exceptions for me.

The best team play experience I had in a video game came from NBA Live 09. I actually do not remember touching any other mode on that game, but I just remember during the 08-09 season after all the games were over that night it was a 5 vs 5 set for atleast 2 or 3 matches for that night.

The game that actually was the biggest surprise for me. I used to be the anti-rockband guy, but just did a blind purchase on it since I had a friend always playing. The game actually got me back into rock music again and actually had me put a ridiculous amount of time and money on it overtime. All in all the game gave a fun experience that might of only been for last gen.

The game that got me back into fighting games and in most cases the best game I played last generation[due to the fact that I still have this game in my rotation]. The appeal of this game might of worn out for some, but the initial release had me hook on a FIGHTING [NOT NAMED FIGHT NIGHT] since Tekken Tag Tournament.

I might of played Halo Reach longer than any other shooter and possibly any other game last gen. The game biggest pro for me was the fact that I could just get online and not need any friends to actually enjoy the game, which allowed me to accumulate way too many total games played. Outside of Halo Reach the only other shooter I was able to mainly just play with randoms and still enjoy was Shadowrun.

This game is going to be the most memorable game of last generation for me. The introduction to the Unreal engine, the dated and simple matchmaking system, the race to get seriously, the all in all fun and memorable multiplayer moments, and the fact I only played the tutorial and final mission. Gears of Wars basically describe what last generation as all about for me.

Mass Effect Hands down franchise of the generation. It's all been said after that. 2 gets a slight edge over 3 for me.

Uncharted 2 I think Uncharted was big for me because it was my first PS3 game. I was a 360 gamer last gen until about 3 years ago when I finally added a PS3. I picked up Uncharted based on a PS3 game recommendation thread here on OS and had a blast. I just felt very different thatn anything on 360 at the time. Couple that with being my first PS3 game it has to be on my list.

NBA Live 10 My most played game last Gen. I loved 09 but 10 was the best ever in the franchise. I mostly played online. Live 9 & 10 were the only games I ever went after the overall leader boards. I was able to stay in the top 20-30 for both games most of each year. Well that's if you back out the Flag Glitchers. Anybody else remember that?

Batman Been discussed alot. AA and AC is almost too close to call but I'll give it to AA just for the impact it had when it came out. I might be in the minority but I also like AO. I never could figure out all the hate for that one.

I could throw my 5th (or even 5-20) up on the list but for me those Top 4 should really just stand alone.

1. Battlefield 3

I owned the premium versions for both consoles, put hundreds upon hundreds of hours into the multiplayer of this game. Amazing experience.

2. Heavy Rain

Innovative, creative, and an awesome story.

3. Mass Effect 2

Played it before ME1, since my 360 was down for a while. It introduced me to one of my favorite gaming series' of all time.

4. NCAA '14

Hands down the best football gaming experience I had last generation. It looked like EA had finally figured it out for the first time since the revolutionary graphics and gameplay from NCAA '11.

I've been shopping for a cheap PS3 just for this game.

5. Halo 3

Best Halo for me. Loved 2 like most, but I never had high speed internet then. 16 player split screen was fun both in school and at my cousin's gaming on Halo 2, but it didn't compete with multiplayer Halo 3. Some of my favorite weapons of the series were in that game (Mauler).



I can think of some more honorable mentions, but I think that defeats the purpose of narrowing it down to 5. I would have put Battlefield:MC if it had not been released on PS2.
