          Consoles haven't been completely ruled out.


          Why XCOM 2 Had to be PC Exclusive -- IGN First

          “Internally, with a relatively small team for the size of the game that we are, to be able to say we can focus on our platform that the studio has a pedigree for, and that X-COM: UFO Defense has a pedigree for, as PC-only... it just made a lot of sense, and that's how we wanted to dedicate our time.”
          “When we have our meetings, when we talk about stuff, we only talk about PC,” said Solomon. “We talk about ‘What is the experience like on PC? What does the mouse feel like in this experience?’” The most obvious change resulting from those conversations is how the team is optimizing the interface to be mouse-and-keyboard friendly, moving UI elements and grouping them logically so that buttons we’re likely to press one after the other aren’t placed on opposite sides of the screen. “It will certainly be recognizable, but there isn't one UI widget that's the same,” said Solomon. We’ll also see more tactical information (such as detailed explanations of why your chance to hit is increased or decreased) displayed on the tactical interface, since Firaxis can now count on players sitting closer to their PC monitors and being able to read smaller text. And though Firaxis plans to add it in the future, the current plan is to launch without gamepad support.
          As for the chances of XCOM 2 making its way to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 at some point in the future, Solomon wouldn’t rule it out, but it won’t happen any time soon. “We're certainly not opposed to that, but I can assure that's something we're not even discussing yet,” he said. He added that the PS4 and Xbox One would likely be technically capable of running XCOM 2, but developing all of these features for multiple platforms simultaneously would be impossible for Firaxis to do.

          Of course, the one thing that a console version of XCOM 2 wouldn’t be able to handle at all is modding, which Solomon and DeAngelis consider to be one of it’s biggest features and key to offering the kind of long-term replayablity and value people have come to expect from the makers of Sid Meier’s Civilization.

            XCOM 2's Exciting Modding Potential -- IGN First

            “We're going all-out with modding on XCOM 2,” declared Creative Director Jake Solomon. One of his and Lead Producer Garth DeAngelis’ chief regrets about XCOM: Enemy Unknown is its lack of significant mod support, and it’s a missed opportunity they don’t intend to repeat. And so they laid out their plans: Either day-and-date with XCOM 2’s November launch or soon thereafter, Firaxis intends to release a full suite of modding tools – an Unreal Development Kit (UDK) and the editor the developers use to create content – that will enable modders to run wild with XCOM 2. “It's yours now; do with it what you want.”

            “People will see the gameplay source, all the scripting,” he promised. “This is the code that makes the game what the game is. Here's the editor and all the assets that went into this game.”

            That’s all music to the ears of modders and fans of modding alike – especially since XCOM 2 will have Steam Workshop integration to make browsing, downloading, and installing the mods talented people create a one-click process.

              I'm sadly out until it's on consoles....I'll never have the spending money to waste on a gaming PC. It'd be much smarter for me to get a Surface or Ultrabook at those prices.

              Hopefully it'll come to consoles eventually!

                I think it will at some point especially if sales are lower than expected. I'm strictly console so I'll just wait til it comes to PS4. If by chance it doesn't well I guess I'll never get to play it.

                  Yeah, i bet it will eventually. I get what they're doing, just don't care enough about PC gaming to spend 500+ on a gaming rig.

                      Day one, assuming my PC can run it. I didn't get into XCOM until well after its release (but before Enemy Within), but once I did it was one of those games I didn't put down for a long time, not to mention one that I could pick back up again and still enjoy. Procedurally generated maps and mod support are only going to add to the replayability.

                          Firaxis doesn't make hardware demanding games. It's also just using a modified UE3, so if you can run Enemy Unknown or other UE3 games, you're good.

                            If this is true, and if I can stream PC games through Xbox One to my tv, then I'd consider it...My current PC could handle the first Xcom ok, so might be worth it....
