No issues on my end - loads are actually faster than they were for me at release and have been for a long time.

Maybe try disabling mods temporarily if you have any and see if that helps (you're on the PC version right?). I know WotC isn't compatible with hardly any of the base XCOM 2 mods so something might be causing a conflict...I dunno. Could also try verifying the install by right-clicking XCOM 2 in the Steam games list, going to properties > local files and select "Verify Integrity of game files". That will take a while though - it'll go through your entire XCOM 2 install directory and re-download anything that's missing/corrupted.

They are pretty long, but I usually have a TV on while I'm playing so it distracts me. It's worth sitting through, though. The game is so great.

So I've been playing this a lot lately. Load times seem to be OK (PS4), but I get crashes especially on missions where I've gunned down a ton of Lost. Once you kill them they stay on the map and this game does not handle graphics overload in a good way at all. So I can't play Ironman anymore. Once when a crash happened, it simply deleted my Ironman save file. Great.

Anyway, this is the first I've played with WOTC, and man that really completed the game. One of the best PS4 gen games there is honestly.

I would say anyone who still has this sitting around and hasn't added WOTC, go ahead and do it. The DLC is deeply discounted at this point and is so worth it.

Interesting that you're experiencing instability issues on PS4. I do agree that the Lost maps are most likely to crash, but on the PC version I've only had it happen when certain mods are running with those maps.

Sucks about the ironman file loss. Myself, I enjoy playing the game like that where actions have permanent consequences, but I too have experienced my share of bugs in XCOM EW and 2 - and it's extremely frustrating to lose a save due to something like that. So what I do is I just play normally, but I only reload saves if a bug occurs. If I make a tactical mistake or otherwise do something that has an unintended consequence (including bad attack rolls), I live with it - or die with it, depending on the severity. It's colloquially known as "Honestman" because it's not the game's true ironman mode, but functions exactly the same as it provided you can will yourself to not reload for anything except bugs. Of course playing this way means you can't get ironman-themed achievements or trophies, so if that's a concern you won't have much choice but to play regular ironman.

Not a lot you can do to reduce the Lost load on those maps other than to just keep them from spawning in huge, screen-filling numbers. The steadily-spawning in packs of Lost shouldn't cause any issues as long as you're clearing them out as they rush you, but where you get in trouble is if you're causing explosions - those draw the Lost onto your position a lot quicker or cause even more to spawn outside your field of view. That can cause things to get out of hand very quickly both for you fireteam and your system.

Yeah I don’t re-load anything. I think they call it “Honestman” lol.

Anyway I just got crashed out of a really fun (non-lost mission) turn and it’s so frustrating. I’ll start again from the last turn, but it really breaks the immersion.

As for the Lost missions on PS4, the problem isn’t allowing a lot of them to spawn into your turn. It’s that any of them who you have already killed that happen to be on screen cause problems if another spawns. On Lost missions, I don’t even bother with shooting off explosives unless absolutely necessary. You should be able to handle pods and whatever Lost show up without them.

The missions where you get The Horde sitrep are only free XP for whoever you want to bring but have high crash probability lol

EDIT - just noticed you mentioned honestman. Not sure why my brain skipped that...

The console version is awful with crashing. I've had multiple campaigns that I've gotten to a point where I can't progress further because the game crashes on the same mission every time

I thought I had that on this one. Crashed 3 times around the same point. What I did to fix was changed the order I did things and didn’t blow up some cover even though it meant an injured soldier.

Actually set up for the final mission of this run now. Got back into it on Veteran. Next run will be difficulty up.

I think this is the best game I have ever played. The LongWar mod if you get into is just incredible.

What's everyone's favorite class/builds? Just vanilla WOTC here.

                      I think my favorites are:

Assault Ranger - Don't really need to go too much into depth on this one. Once high-ranked it is unstoppable, but even better....

Templar - if you roll Bladestorm as an option on this class, it is basically not a fair troop. If you also roll the Fortress option, it's even more hilarious.

Pistol Sharpshooter - While painful to take Sharpshooters out in early missions, the Resistance Ring brought by WOTC is a great way to get your snipers up to par where you can actually feel good about having them in your squad. The reason I like these guys so much is put bluescreen rounds on a high rank pistol sharpshooter and it can one-turn kill a Sectopod or Gatekeeper - with its pistol. Bzzt.

I feel like I don't utilize the Reaper/High Ground Sharpshooter combo enough. If I understand the mechanics correctly, I could honestly take just those two on a mission that had a lot of open space and kill everything on the map without the enemies ever knowing where I was. Claymore and Remote Start are hilarious since they don't reveal the Reaper.

Anyone else have a favorite class build or squad combos?

I love a high class Grandier as my starter on any mission. Get one with the extra damage, shoot a freeze bomb, and put everyone in overwatch, you can take out the first pod in one turn.
