At least in the first game a rookie's base accuracy was 65, meaning that even on a flank they had a 65% chance at best to hit. That number gets more reasonable as they level up and get better weaponry, of course.

At least you don't have a killjoy in your ear every time you blow up an alien this time. Listen, lady, I'm out here trying to survive. Your parts are just gonna have to be collateral damage.

Hour 62 on this game. I think I've attempted 11 campaigns. It's amazing it has taken that long to get just decent in the game.

Ironman Veteran. Advent clock just activated but was able to take out a facility to drop it back down. Curious to see if the countdown starts again, will it start where it left off or reset...

Anyways, I've done all the Tygan researches. My crew is not fully teched up but close in regards to standard tech. I got some alien armor, ammo, grenades but I lost a big chunk of that rencently when 4 soliders (2 Majors) got taken out in one mission. I've contacted most of everything except for the Americas and a small part of Africa.

Now I realized I need the Shadow Chamber to win and I need to research about 5 things. So this playthrough is most likely going to end in a loss. Again.

Mimic Beacons. Build them when you can and take all of them with you. Nothing beats buying a turn when you're in a bad spot. They can be reanimated by sectoids, but that's not a big deal.

This 1,000 times. This actually may be my favorite part of the game in that they took that out and now it's just a shell game to see if you can not hit the one on each mission with the loot with a grenade. Although her role may have just been reprized as Bradford yelling how the world is going to end every single time a civilian is killed luckily that one got an early mod.

This game is just evil sometimes and even though it's all RNG feels like it can sense you getting comfortable. I was cruzing on Ironman, almost to the point of thinking it may be time to bump up the difficulty. Then it happened. A failed hack on a security tower that missed an 80% success rate called in reinforcements on my position and broke my concealment. So I set up the perfect ambush that without a doubt would decimate the reinforcements on overwatch alone. As I'm moving the last person into position the music cue pops in and immediate dread washes over me as I watch a pod of a mech and two shock troopers appear on the flank of my ambush. In the next turn a pod of 2 sectoids pops and despite putting up a valiant fight Clint Barton, Barry Allen, Bruce Wayne, Elektra Natchios and one random never had a chance.

Felt like I was doing fairly well on my 1st playthrough. I had 4 lieutenants and numerous of seargants. I had two fairly strong teams rotating. That didn't last long. I had a terror mission to rescue 6 civilians. I was cruising along on the mission and had 5 rescued, but as I approached the 6th, I activated a 7 team death squad from the advent. One beserker, one mouton, an aid mech, 2 armored shock troopers, an officer, and a sectoid. All 4 lieutenants one Sergeant wiped out, game over. I couldn't recover from that. This game appears to be fairly brutal difficulty wise.

This game feels like you are meant to play it numerous times. I love it but man the rogue-like elements are hard to swallow especially on a game that you could be 10 hours into and suddenly everything goes to crap.

I restarted so many times from getting wiped out I lost count. Spread your guys out too far, get wiped. Keep them too close get wiped out by a missile barrage or plasma grenade. Send one person too far ahead, trigger the second wave enemies too soon and you fighting on two fronts. Brutal I tell you.

On Veteran, Mimic Beacon might be a little OP. I'm on cruise control now that I have two. Sectopods are no longer scary as I get two full turns to take it out before it can fire.

Wonder how effective it is once I move up the difficulty level next playthrough. It does look like I'm finally going to win. Shadow Chamber tech is completely researched. Haven't lost a guy in a long time.

Yeah, I'm starting to feel that way too after getting my squad wiped 2 missions in a row and now being forced to restart. It's especially rough when dealing with a new enemy for the first time and you have no idea what they can do. First time I fought a Codex, it split into 3 and decimated my team the next turn.

I'm not opposed to restarting campaigns, but its tougher to swallow when you lose a dozen hours of progress, compared to a game like Invisible Inc, where if you lose, you've only sunk about 3-5 hours into one campaign.

I remember the 1st time I faced a codex and he put that purple swirl stuff around 3 of my guys. I thought oh ok it just emptied out my ammo and didn't leave the purple area. Eventually that purple stuff vanished and caused major damage, killing all 3 of my guys.

                            Same happened to me.

Only took 1 guy out, but I had no idea that would explode and deal 7 damage.

Same. My wife was curious why I was yelling, why the **** would you call that weapons disabled, at the screen.

When I was able to fire I just thought the game had glitched because the game told me the codex had disabled my weapon but I could still fire.

I didn't know for sure that was an AOE explosion zone, but just to be safe I got my guys out of there before it blew up. I still couldn't handle codexes though, and since I got my first one on the Blacksite mission I really had no hope.
