    re: XCOM 2 (PC/PS4/XB1)

What mods are you guys using, if any?

I'm not using any on my first playthrough, but plan on using a few on my next playthrough.

I'm also going to try to make a new soldier class mod as well. (never done it before)

Just using some quality of life mods and cosmetics as well as the Long War Studios since they feel like they were part of the game originally until I beat the campaign the first time.

The three from Long War Studios: Leader, SMG, Centurion
      Stop Wasting My Time
      Quiet Bradford
      Overwatch All/Others
      Star Wars Helmets
      Military Camo
      Ink and Paint
      Capnbubs Accessories Pack

Man....stun lancers on the 2nd mission feels like a little much on Normal. That's the point where you still can't hit anything reliably on overwatch and suddenly have to deal with YOLO melee rushers.

Hate to laugh at your pain because I can imagine what that feels like but that was funny as hell. Sucks something fierce though.

There's nothing like having the perfect setup only to screw it up doing something stupid. Usually mine is some needless risk where right before I do it I say to myself I'm sure it will be fine, no way X happens here. Murphys Xcom law, if there's a 99% chance of a slight gain and 1% catostrophic failure bet on the 1% rng roll

I'm looking for a new game to play late night because I'm terrified of playing my ironman playthrough with any semblance of reduced capacity from being tired. Need The Show to release already so I can throw some franchise games in before bed to do something mindless after xcom.

Do you guys play all the missions as they come up (random raids, optional missions, etc), or do you build up your team before playing these random missions? I play on Ironman and I always get into a really tough random mission that wipes out my team, which i can never recover from. Do you sometimes pull your team out (Evac) during missions that you are being overwhelmed? I am trying to figure out the right strategy but these random missions seem to kill my progress. Maybe my team isnt strong enough? Love the game so far!

It's always better to dump a mission than it is to lose guys. Once it becomes apparent that you won't meet the objective, get out. Just remember that you can't manually abort a mission where the LZ is given to you at the start.

You can always deal with the effects of a dark event or lose out on a mission reward. You can't get a good soldier back if he dies.

You pretty much have to do all the missions other than blacksite and avatar facilities as they come up since if you choose not to then I think you almost always lose contact with that resistance cell and have to recontact them later. I generally let the Avatar clock build until max while researching, strengthening and opening routes to facilities so I can make my team as strong as possible until the last minute then make a chain assault on facilities starting with the blacksite to roll the clock back.

But when given an option on some of those target missions make sure to choose carefully. My first playthough I didn't really pay attention to the Dark counter rewards and focused more on the reward I needed (usually engineers or scientists) sometimes ignoring what dark reward you get allows the aliens to develop some pretty powerful stuff that leads to major problems later.

I agree...there's a bit more leeway for failing missions than there was in the first one. Most of the time in EU you took panic penalties that were near impossible to recover from (depending on whether they happened near the end of month council report), but in this one the worst that's going to happen is you lose contact with a region that can be re-contacted, or you get a few blips on the avatar project - neither of which is game ending.

Which is good, because by and large I do feel like the missions are much tougher in this game than EU, even right from the start.

Agree 100%. I am very quick with the evac trigger with Xcom 2. Even if its not the entire squad. If a guy gets hit hard and I don't have a medi kit or if they get poisoned I'll pull them out and keep going with a reduced squad.

Finally beat the game. That last mission is BRUTAL... Forgot mimic beacons. Got chopped down to my last soldier with 3 health left. Lucked out on a few misses on the final turn and threw a hail mary to secure the win.

Will go for another Veteran run soon before moving to the next difficulty.

Had to restart my commander level campaign. All my saves from previous one had the enemies not attacking, they would just stand there. I don't know if an added mod screwed things up or not.In my new campaign I just started, I have lost 4 soldiers in the first 3 missions! I lost 2 in about 12 -15 missions in my previous campaign, this new one has been brutal!

Just the first one that addressed a few critical bugs. No real performance/gameplay patches yet.

                                Same.

The first is one of my favourite games of all time but I've held out grabbing this knowing I'll neglect everything else.
