re: XCOM 2 (PC/PS4/XB1)
Well, I'm going to assume that those I read about saying they were getting 5 FPS in the base screen were probably attempting to use the maximum graphics setting and defying the auto-detect. Because I got about 2 or 3 FPS there when I attempted it and thought the game had frozen. Medium is what the game auto-detected for me, and with VSYNC enabled (kind of a requirement for me with a 60 hz monitor) it seems to hold a steady 30 FPS everywhere. As I mentioned before, I don't need 60 in this game to be able to enjoy it - which is good because I'm probably not going to achieve it with my system. I think only gameplay is 60 FPS though anyway - scenes are 30. I'd imagine there are performance optimizations coming though - it does seem like it's running a little rough.
Intro mission and cutscenes were awesome. Presentation-wise this is definitely a step up from the last game. I like being able to click on a head icon for a target instead of scrolling through them.

Yeah I watched a stream and this game looks difficult af, and he was playing on normal. Didn't even make it out of the second mission after several attempts.PS: You guys are great.

I lost a guy on that mission too! He could of made it out; all he had to do was make a 85% shot but he missed! RIP. Lol.Comment

re: XCOM 2 (PC/PS4/XB1)
DAMN that 2nd mission was intense. I failed hard on Normal/Veteran difficulty because I botched the concealment mechanic. Basically it treated me as getting flanked when the patrols walked right into me (I was kind of hoping overwatch would trigger, but it didn't). It also triggered the two other groups to move at once, and that is the single easiest way to get your squad wiped in XCOM - was the same for the first game too. Concealment is nice and all, but if you spread yourself too thin and put yourself in range of multiple groups, you're as good as dead. BTW, failing that mission is basically an instant game over - it does allow you to retry, but the game cannot progress without you beating it.
2nd try I had a much better idea of what to expect, and got to use the Ranger's slash and a whole mess of grenades. No casualties.Comment

re: XCOM 2 (PC/PS4/XB1)
My GTX 980 handles this game with ease. Now I am going to spend all day at work thinking about this game. Time flies playing this game. Pretty much the 1st Xcom game I ever played where you really want to use grenades and what ever else you have a lot. Trying to do missions with your primary weapon only won't get you far at all. The AI is too good for that and don't miss a lot like they did in the previous games. I swear normal feels like the hardest difficulty from the last game. Very good challenge, makes you really think before you move people that is for sure. Make a bad move, you get exposed QUICK and you just watch helplessly as you see your guy get gun downed.
Ranger class is nice. However don't try to slash from too far out. Your slash won't be as strong and you will end up being killed on the enemy's next turn.Comment

I was actually planning on going today to pick up a new video card but my 660ti ran it great last night on High settings. Kind of disappointed because I can't justify the upgrade now.
So far it's everything I've been waiting for. As others have said that difficulty of that second mission tells me everything I need to know about the game.Comment

The turn timer missions are ridiculous. Idk why everytime devs destroy their impressive effort with such questionable gameplay decisions.
This is a tactical turn based game and I want to take my time and plan my moves. I hope a mod comes out soon to remove this abomination.Comment

Hoping I don't have any technical problems later today. If there is I'll just wait for a patch to hit with better optimization. Plenty of backlog games to still playthrough.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Nothing specific - just lots of people having problems even with the minimum specs. And the SP3 is below minimum, no discrete graphics. I supposed I could take the plunge and get a refund if it doesn't work.Comment

re: XCOM 2 (PC/PS4/XB1)
Ironically, out of the 6 missions I did last night/this morning (and excluding the one I mentioned before where I botched a vital game mechanic) 5 of them were "timed" and I basically aced them. No deaths, only a few even wounded, all objectives complete. The 6th one, that was untimed? Well, it was about 3 times as hard as the untimed ones, with many more enemies and things to deal with. And my squad wiped and I'm not sure I can recover. I'm not playing ironman so I do have a backup save but I want to at least try to to salvage this one.
I don't think the timed missions are unfair, at least on normal. As long as your first initial moves are aggressive (to the point where you can see the enemy's sight range showing up in 1 or 2 turns) then you can proceed to set up your ambushes and still have plenty of time for mission objectives. They will not react to you unless you cross into that red zone, and, unless they actually bump into one of your soldiers, they will also not act immediately if their patrol puts you within range of them. You'll still get the first shot, and it's likely to be a very high percentage one.Comment

The game though is fantastic. Maybe the best turn based game since Silent Storm.Comment
