    Re: Mass Effect: Andromeda

Just a few more days now. I'm having a heck of a time enjoying other games with this on the horizon. Can't wait to jump back into the world of Mass Effect.

I don't think he was implying every unhappy ME:A consumer is jaded or biased in some way.

Bottom line is we all want the same thing in the long run. Hopefully some of the issues with the game that you've experienced can be patched or worked on down the road.
I hope so as well, I was really looking forward to this game. If they support this game with patches I might be in again. Hope you guys enjoy the game!

The way the characters look( faces) and just the way they move feels awkward

Combat is lacking, you can't even crouch whenever you want to ? I hate that you automatically crouch taking cover. The whole combat system just feels clunky. ( and yes, I have played the first 3 ME games)

I can't believe that after 4 yrs this is what they come up with. Parts of the game look incredible, but game play is severely lacking.

I'm glad some of you guys are enjoying it, we all have different opinions and we should respect them.
I think this just goes to show you how much mileage may vary on these things.

The facial animations are a common gripe and I've heard a few about voice acting as well (though, personally, I think it's mostly fine...just the usual mixed bag these games tend to have), but I think you're the first person I've seen who considers the combat system clunky. Cover, yes (I also don't like the auto cover...but, then again, I never really do for games like this), but not the overall combat...Interesting.

That's not a criticism of your take, btw...just agreeing with how we all have different things that strike us about these games.

For me, it's character creation. I loved the combat and the game overall and wasn't too put off by the facial animation goofiness when it occurred, but I honestly couldn't stand looking at my Ryder's face in dialogue scenes...lol. I was just so incredibly disappointed in not only the limited options, but the lack of quality of them overall.

I can look past it and I'm definitely getting the game eventually, but I'm hoping at least some mods will surface down the road, which has me thinking I'm going to wait it out for now, despite me wanting to dive back into the ME universe.

          Re: Mass Effect: Andromeda

It is interesting to hear the complaint about combat. I've found combat refreshing and fun. The profiles and the elimination of having to run a specific class as opposed to being able to mix and match is huge for me. In the OG trilogy. I was always a solider type, but getting to mix and match some biotic and tech skills opens up the game more for me. Not to mention I really like the rocket pack and dash options.

I do agree the cover system and loss of a crouch is painful, but looking at how they have laid out buttons it seems like one button more than they had. Hope they can figure something out for those that want those options either via a patch or in sequels.

I do like hearing criticisms from players more so than reviews, because in this day and age trashing a game as a reviewer gets you more clicks than not.

I love the gameplay and cover system and this is coming from a guy who is currently playing ME2, I hate pressing A to cover in that game because it just doesn't work that good. The one thing I do miss in combat is choosing your teammates weapons and abilities on the fly.
Too me the voice acting and facial expressions aren't that bad, this is coming from someone who loved DAI and just beat FF15, now the voice acting in that game was horrid but I still enjoyed the game.

I don't understand why they wont let just keep the Ryder's faces and just change the hair and facial hair? I can't stand Scott's hair, reminds me of Bieber or Elvis, lol.

                Mass Effect: Andromeda

Manual crouch was only in ME1. You couldn't crouch in 2 or 3 unless you were behind cover.........just like in Andromeda. It's nothing new.

Protip: pressing down on R3 switches the side you aim and fire your gun from. That should help anyone who couldn't properly fire from behind cover.

I like this automatic cover, personally. I also feel that this is easily the best combat in the series.

I wish the trial was longer than 10 hours but only cuts you off at the story-gate. I'd love to be exploring Eos right now, even if I couldn't advance story.

The character creator is easily the worst in the series. It needs a massive update.

I can deal with the eyes and jank. I've never played a perfect game before so as long as there's no game-killing issues, I'm all in. I had a ton of fun with my brief time.

I'm guessing the reason is the same as for the previous games in the series. It's a face scan making editing difficult...even simple stuff can apparently lead to syncing and various other issues with facial animations (cue the "yeah, but..." jokes about the current animation complaints...lol).

I'm with you though...I'd be less frustrated if I could simply change the hair and maybe the eye color on the default male. Oh well.

I read that a future patch (not the day one) may make some improvements to both animations and the character creator, so we'll see.

Only playing the MP in the trial and I think it's great overall. Very similar to ME3 which for me is a great thing. My only complaint is that leveling your character seems to be pretty grindy so far. It should get easier as you unlock better weapons to grind future characters but right now it's very slow. My fear is they made it tougher to level just push the micro transactions which I am not a fan of.

It a slow grind in SP too. It takes forever to level up and you don't get many points when you do.

                          played the 10 hours.
did the main story as far as it would allow, which is not that far.
explored the planet as much as it allowed, which also didn't seem to be much.gather all the resources and research objects I could find as well
scanned all the planets and tried to talk to as much people as I could.
it says I have less than a hour, not sure of the exact time left, but there wasn't much left to do in the allowable areas, beside driving around and killing enemies that spawn in.

so far, the game has been a lot of fun.
playing on PC, first disappointment was only being able to have 3 abilities mapped. the others you could have 8 I believe. I know there are profiles, but that causes a cool-down.
but it was made slightly tolerable as the ability cooldowns are like ME1 now, where each ability has it's own cooldown, ME2/3 had global cooldowns.

I started as Technician, which started me with Overload. I unlocked Incinerate and Energy drain. So, it's basically like an Engineer from the other games. having a lot of fun with the Tech combos.

Overload has 2 ways to use it, tap it to hit 1 target, hold it to charge it up and can hit multiple targets. there are a few other abilities that are similar where tap/hold do different things.

weird thing is you can't manually save on any priority mission. you have to rely on autosaves.

I ended up just before hitting character level 8
