The driver stiff is all pretty much streamlined now. Takes 2 minutes for new drivers to download and install. I really like the auto optimise they do also for each game. Years ago I would have agreed with you. It simply not an issue these days with game optimization/patch installs etc..

      Re: Mass Effect: Andromeda

I have decided not to get this game day one. I've loved all the other games but I loved my crew. I'm waiting to hear back from several of you on what you think about the game. After that time, I'll make my decision on if I am going to jump back into the universe minus the old characters.

With The Show coming out the following week as well, I don't want to play this a week and then walk away for a bit. So I really do look forward to reading the feedback on here and deciding how to go. I am really hoping this is something that becomes a recommended must buy as I truly love the over three games in the series.

Hopefully the filler missions aren't as bad as reported. Honestly I felt like the previous 3 games had similar issues with many of their missions as well. Your crew being uninteresting really worries me most though. Hopefully it's good.

Forgot I pre ordered This and it shipped already, so too late to turn back now.

But so far it feels like Mass Effect.

Hopefully I can dive further into the game later tonight.

So....three games, three different styles of writing (one balanced, one character-driven, and one story-driven).

Why am I bringing this up? Because I think any discussion of the story for ME:Andromeda right now has to be evaluated in the context of the new series. You just arrived in a new galaxy...to get thrown into some massive overarching plot right away would almost feel a bit contrived in my opinion. I wouldn't be shocked if this is more like ME2, some exploring, some character development, some basic plot development as you uncover...well.....whatever we're going to uncover.
My review of a game is if I play it, and I lose track of time. I was exploring on trial, already finished as far as I could on story, "10 hour trial has expired", NOOOOOOOOOOO, haha. Yes, is their graphical errors, yet minor, but it is good enough to keep me playing and coming back for more.

Shame that this is the series that had one of the most chill inducing dialogue sequences ever in the Sovereign conversation in ME1. Looks like I'll wait a year until this is free on Origin Access.

Too many good games out now to play a mediocre Mass Effect spin off.

From Virmire till the end in ME1 is the pinnacle of the series in my book.

What bums me out the most with Andromeda is a new galaxy should give them a chance to introduce a ton of new alien species, yet we're still predominately interacting with same ones from the original trilogy. Comparisons to the first three games were inevitable, but I feel it's even easier when you play it so safe; "this new Turian companion seems alright, but she's no Garrus".

A lot of the same ground is covered too, like, have you heard about the Genophage? Yes, it's only been a big pillar in the three prior games. Similar codex entries and damn I miss that narrator. Andromeda just feels a bit soulless, but I still want to play it after spending a few hours with the trial, again just going to wait for a sale or year from now when it goes up on Origin Access.

And yeah, there's been a string of really great games this year. Who would've thought the makers of Killzone would outdo BioWare their first try? Even the biggest dissenters of Inquisition and Mass Effect 3 would've called you crazy.

                      About 90 minutes in.
Having played ME1 I know what to expect.
Still I dislike the start of most RPGs because they force you to walk around a large area and speak to countless NPCs.

But I'm excited to get thru this because once I leave the main station my job will be to explore planets and search for resources to help sustain life for humans in this neck of the woods.

Bad voice overs and bad animations are damn near game breaking for me. Don't really care about the story too much so maybe I'll stay in multiplayer until it gets boring.

Is a 75 on metacritic really THAT bad? I mean, it seems like it falls a little short of the mark the trilogy set, but if the game is "just decent" would that be considered a failure since it is a Mass Effect game?

Nowadays with how reviews have generally tended to get higher I feel that a 75 is kinda bad.

When I think of it as a scale of I wouldn't play a game that's a 60 or so unless i was really diehard about the series or development a 70 closer to that. There's too many games in the 80s and 90s now for me to go dropping full dough on a 75.

Which Is the good and bad thing. I really like the ME franchise but it seems from early impressions and reviews this new step isn't quite what I'm looking for from them. I'll wait for it to drop or Christmas deals before playing. I already have a backlog miles deep it feels like.

I think it would be more a reflection of the heightened expectations the original trilogy set...sorta like another famous sci fi trilogy....

We will see how it is...but if you evaluated strictly on its own merits, my guess is that you would be able to add 10 points to that score.

I'm an unabashed fanboy of this series...heck, my birthday even fell on N7 day...but I am really trying to go into this with no expectations....but it isn't easy.
