    Re: Ghost Recon Wildlands

So I only got to play Ghost Recon Wildlands on the PS4 Pro for about 2 hours this weekend and here is what I think..

    1. The lack of cover got me killed a ton. Going to take some getting used to. Wish they had copied The Division!

    2. As ExtremeGamer said - the rain drops hitting the ground and causing a bunch of white splotches does look utterly stupid and needs fixed asap. Reminds me of EGA gaming back on the PC days in the early 90's LOL - Otherwise though the games graphics look really, really good, esp the rain/storms.

    3. The world is awesome and open and there is so much freedom I can imagine playing this a long, long time.

    4. The controls are going to take some serious time to get used to. Not because they are bad or anything, just because there is so much going on. Nothing a good 10 hour session won't fix though.

    5. The AI teammates are pretty stupid. Not sure how much fun this will be playing solo. May need to drink copious amounts of alcohol to ignore the stupidity of my teammates if I want to play solo. Hoping this improves..

    6. This game would be, IMO and from what I've read others saying here on OS, a real BLAST to play as a co-op team. I'd love to be able to get 3 other buddies together and play this for a few hours straight. Doubt it'll happen but would be awesome.

    7. Feels a lot less like a Tom Clancy game and more like a Grand Theft Auto Bolivia game. I'm cool with that, but some folks may not like that aspect.

    8. Last but not least, not sure I am going to spring for the $99 version now, because I'm not sure I will want/need all the DLC since the world is so darned big I may not even need all that much more add-on to get my moneys worth.

I definitely am buying but may wait for a sale, so many great games coming out in Feb/March may be fine with waiting for a sale on this one.

      1. Agreed. Haven't played the beta as the game is only four weeks away so I'll just wait. I said this back from E3 2015. Wht they didn't just implement the cover system from The Division is beyond me.

      2. Going to have to watch rain videos because I haven't seen this yet so I can't really comment on it.

      3. Oh hell yeah. 21 regions and the beta is only the first one if I remember correctly. Can't wait to see the other regions.

      4. This can apply to almost every game. No biggie. Once you get going, you're good.

      5. Haven't played the beta but if I get the same amount of fun with GRW that I had with The Division solo, I'll be better than fine. I'm looking forward to doing everything solo and keeping my teammates back.

      6. Agreed. It is after all meant to be played as a four player co-op.

      7. Never played the other Ghost Recon games. Tom Clancy wise, before this gen, it was just Splinter Cell, SC: PT, SCC and SC:B. Conviction was by far my favorite so I won't have any problems here.

      8. I honestly don't know why anyone would buy the season/expansion pass without knowing what it contains and if it's any good to begin with. With that said, being a GCU member or Prime, I can understand going with that version because it makes more sense since it would be cheaper as opposed to waiting. I purchased Mafia III deluxe edition and the season pass will only cost me $10 as opposed to $30. Even if you purchase the season pass and don't use it, could always sell it which was what my backup plan was if I didn't decide to redeem it. Since the first expansion for Mafia III and the expansion schedule has been released for it and I just finished it a week ago, im definitely hungry and looking forward to more Mafia III content. Back to GRW, I haven't decided yet as im waiting to see what the season pass will contain before deciding. I'll either do what I did with Mafia III or I'll do what I did with The Division. Buy the base game, complete it, trade it in and then wait until all the expansions get released and decide if I want to pick it up. In regards to The Division, the answer is most likely yes but waiting until Last Stand gets released before making a final decision.

Agree in regards to a lot of good to great games coming out in February and March. In a three week span, I have For Honor, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Ghost Recon: Wildlands and Nier: Automata.

It's funny, there's either too many games at the same time or few if any at the same time (mostly summer time). Oh well. That's why backlogs exist and what they're for.

Odd though isn't it to have so many great titles in February and March right? I don't recall that being a really busy time for release in past years...but maybe there were just games I didn't know or care about too...

I agree with Odogg that this game feels more like GTA than the previous ghost recons. I really wish it had a cover system.

            Re: Ghost Recon Wildlands

I got some time in with this over the weekend. Not as much as I would have liked, but it was a busy weekend for me with a concert on Saturday and the Super Bowl on Sunday. However, here's what I thought...

            - I wish I had more time to play it. I didn't get to sit down for a session long enough to get into online/co-op play. I didn't want to join a group, then bail in 15-20 minutes if I had to go. So, I played everything solo. That disappointed me, but that's my own fault.

            - The game looks fantastic (XB1). The weather didn't bother me like it did for some.

            - Audio is good. Some birds/insects were way too loud in the surround mix. Vehicles & choppers especially had some pretty lame sounding audio.

            - reminded me a lot of playing Far Cry 4. From a control/world/general game play standpoint. I actually felt like I was in the Far Cry 4 world a bit at times, just with, slightly different themed visuals.

            - Lack of a cover system really bothered me. Even at times when their version of a cover system kicked in, I thought I was hidden, yet continually took damage. That was disappointing.

            - I was able to jump off a pretty big cliff accidentally and to my surprise, I sustained no damage. Just kind of landed on my feet, or rolled to my feet.

            - driving and flying vehicles was... not what I expected. I wasn't expecting Forza, but I wasn't expecting Far Cry 4 or GTA either.

            - I had quite a bit of fun though. It was a lot of fun sneaking through the woods, around buildings, trying to stay hidden, sniping guys from afar etc. etc.

            - AI teammates... they're stupid. It's that simple. It's not the easiest to direct them around. They often times wander around aimlessly behind you often getting spotted putting you into a firefight you weren't expecting. That has me questioning my purchase of this to be honest. I would play it quite a bit in an online group, but there's times I'd play solo, and I feel like it would be a pretty bad experience overall in the grand scheme of things because of the AI teammates being useless.

            - I agree with Odogg's statement earlier. I'd be buying the basic version if I end up buying. I don't feel like the DLC will be a good investment for me. I didn't buy it for The Division, and I've played the heck out of that game and still do and I don't miss it. I don't see myself playing this game though much past the story missions.

            - It's not what I was expecting really. I was expecting it to be more like The Division. Like, a Ghost Recon themed Division though, where guys don't take 100 bullets to die etc, etc. I expected it to just be more like the GR version of The Division, a more "real", or military styled version of The Division. Instead, I felt like it was Far Cry, but in a different world, a world that was more real world based, with different gameplay. To me, I'm not sure that's a good thing. Seemed too arcade like of an experience, when I was expecting something a bit more authentic.

Agree with you guys. It's more GTA/Just Cause than anything. If you like those games you will probably be happy.

Heh, my group loves the idea of GTA, but for various reason have never been able to get it to work out. Think we might give it another go at the LAN in a couple of weeks.

I keep reading you guys wishing that Wildlands had a cover system like the Division.

That would be best if it can be implemented down the road but the cover system it has now works.

You just crouch near anything and you'll get in cover. The problem with the cover system in Wildlands isn't the actual cover part, it works just fine. The problem is firing from cover, often you be aiming down at your own cover & hitting it and not the enemies which is silly & poorly implemented.

I wonder why they didn't use the cover system of the division. I'm sure there's a reason but I doubt it's a good one.

Only the weak players need cover. I, on the other hand, require no cover.
