I'm so bad online it's not even funny. 1 kill per match and if I have a good round I get 2 kills lol

Go for the boom shot. Even a bad player can get like 4 kills with it alone.

Wtf is this? I just want to play story mode and I can't because i can't get past "contacting gears services". After I hit start.

How is he supposed to know where it is though? There are x's on the map but it's near impossible for a new player to get to those guns before a vet does and blows them away. Gears is great but online is pretty awful for someone who is not familiar with it. That's why I wish they got horde into this somehow. Or at least made gears 2 and 3 available at launch so there were more online options than just competitive modes available.

Practice mode or play with friends is the only thing I can say.

You just have to get used to it. I've never played Gears before this game. At first I was miserable but then I started figuring it out. I have like 20 wins and four losses with a positive kd. Im much better than before and I still don't use the power weapons all that much. The other guys get to the better weapons before me but it's not the end of the world. They have limitations.

Finally got time to play last night: WOAH MAN! Blown away at how this game looks and moves. Although, I've been having a bit of problems with my mic or not hearing others.

Hit me up this weekend fellas!!! I'm down to play story or versus modes.

Quit the game and start it back up it should do the trick. Server maintenance has been going on to prepare for the UK release yesterday.

Tips for newcomers

1. Don't select the big bulky characters until you get the game down, they have bigger hit boxes and are easier to kill.

2. Close quarters, make use of the chainsaw on your Lancer if you can't switch to your shotgun in time, also meelee with any other weapon you have out.

3. Hard aim the shotgun from a distance about 10 ft, never up close you want to make use of soft aim, quickly tap LT then RT to shoot until you get blindfiring down.

4. Always flank the power weapons never go straight on from your spawn, more skilled players will be expecting you and normally go in two's so communicate with a member of your team to be your wingman.

5. Most important one of them all, practice, practice and practice some more.

6. Wall bouncing, make use of those beautiful maps and evade shots by sliding cover to cover. This one will take a while to get down, so make sure you try to learn it as much by doing number 5.

7. Sensitivity settings, figure out what works best for you by testing it out. More of a support rifle player don't stray too far from the default settings, mix of both shotgun and rifle try mid twenties, all around player float towards 27-30.

8. This one is cheap but the vets will pre load actives on you, so make sure you practice perfect reloads it gives damage boost.

9. Always push the fight from your right side, never from the left it puts you at a disadvantage aim wise.

It's a steep learning curve and you will get frustrated at times, but believe me I started out way back as just a support chainsaw noob, now I'm a beast. As you practice and go on to unlock your greatness you will begin to love the series and see it in a new light.

I keep seeing people talk about practice, but I don't see anyway to do that? Can you play against bots for now? I'd like to get out of the COD/Battlefield mindset

No bots unfortunately, but you can practice in private match against fellow Os'ers.

I played Gnashers Only in a private party last Thursday for the first time ever, and it is incredibly addicting. My team kicked our friends' bleeps, but we played nonstop for about two hours. That was after about two hours of playing Execution online.

I have completely abandoned my social life since Tuesday, and I'm only taking a break because it's Sunday and I'm at my mom's. But I already have the itch to play again.
