    Re: Mafia 3

By the way, I have noticed what looks like streetcar railroads here and there. Has anyone seen any streetcars at all? I haven't seen any. Weird...(it's like the bus stops in Watch Dogs, but there are no buses in the game).

Do the Mafia games usually have a lot of story missions, side missions, collectibles, etc?

Mafia 2 had no side missions per se, and only a few side activities to complete, which was baffling considering it was open world. I think the publisher eventually told them to put the game out because it had been in development for 7+ years IIRC so they cut a lot of content they had planned. It also only had collectible Playboy mags if memory serves. This game is supposed to have a ton of side stuff to do but I'm not sure about collectibles. I would imagine it will have those too.

            Re: Mafia 3

Mafia was a linear story driven game set in sandbox environment to make missions more interesting. It didn't rely on brutal kills or cover system or side activities. Not every game needs to play like latest GTA games (full open world, side jobs, cover system, checkbox quests etc).

The reason why some people liked Mafia was because it was more grounded experience compared to games like GTA. (which I also like, but I don't want Mafia to be like that)

So I've read some things, people are comparing this game to GTA V... Saying this game is just GTA V set in 1968.

              Thoughts?

We won't know for sure until next month, but I think they've demonstrated enough to separate themselves from the "GTA clone" label.

Seen some gameplay, this series has gone downhill. The gameplay mechanics are just... Awful.

I don't remember seeing anything about a Photo Mode, which is too bad. This game definitely deserves one, it could be amazing!

I like it that that the game has quite a few weapons. But I'm not sure an AK47 should be there. I admit I'm not that knowledgeable about what were guns you could find in the US in the 1960's, but I find it hard to believe that mobsters carried AK47's. I actually doubt anyone would carry such gun back then.

It's great that the game gives us access to so many different guns, but being about authenticity, it just doesn't make sense. Those of you who have more knowledge about the history of weaponry in the US back then, feel free to educate me. I'd love to learn.

After watching LOTS of Mafia 3 gameplay, I can say that the AI in this game is like a 2005 AI. The enemies may react to your presence (though not 100% of the time, either), but NPCs can completely ignore you. I have been watching some videos where prostitutes would notice you silently kill an enemy, and they would run away scared. However, other NPCs around them would TOTALLY IGNORE your presence - and them running away screaming, even if you walk right in front of them. Which is pretty bad. In other words, most NPCs don't seem to question your presence, which, to me, is where the game fails.

It's a pretty consistent issue, and it makes the world around you more dead than alive. Which is not good at all when it comes to an open world game. I sure hope this can be fixed, though I doubt it will.

Everyone still planning on getting the game in 2 1/2 weeks?

Not sure what to do yet.
