I loved Civilization V, especially with the NQ Mod. Hoping for some fun out of Civ 6!

Graphics look ok to me, but I am playing on 1440p Ips display. Cartoony but vibrant.

        Re: Civilization 6

Just played about 50 minutes of my first game. I'll address the visuals first: Most of the visuals are well done, but the area I look at the most, the main game screen, is too washed out and bland. I have a hard time looking at it. It actually really bothers me.

I was a little bothered by many of the changes. For some reason, I doubt a good one, they changed a few of the hotkeys. Driving me crazy right now. Also, some of the "improvements" theyve made to the UI and getting the info that you need immediately, is too cluttered to look at for me. What an eyesore sometimes.

Too many things going on ... too many Civic changes, too quickly. I'll have to give it another shake tomorrow. Looks like it could be good fun, just some of the changes rubbed me the wrong way.

the UI seems to be too small at 3440x1440 resolution. and the larger UI option is greyed out at that resolution.

Well, here's a few things I noted so far:

              - I'm not going to be one who can tell you guys about how nice it looks on the highest settings. I ran the benchmark and got around an average 30 FPS on the medium setting, so I'm unlikely to go much higher than that. My system if you're curious: http://www.game-debate.com/gaming-pc...dition&ram=8GB

              - I like the caricature-type leaders. Brings back some of the feel of the old games

              - This game is MUCH more open with the AI's relationship toward the player than Civ V was at release. After patches and expansions there were reasons shown for why the leader likes you or doesn't, but that's in from the start here. They also have hidden agendas, that you can only uncover by gaining "intel" on them

              - Maybe I'm mistaken, but I don't recall the "fog of war" being this significant in past games. At least in the beginning of the game you only have a full view of 2 hexes or so, and the rest of the map is obscured with a parchment-like design of the land's features.

              - Diplo victory has been replaced with.....Religious Victory. The requirement is that the religion must be followed by over half of the Civs in the game. Bring on the Holy Wars!

More as I get deeper into the game.

I'll get this in a few years whenever it's in a dirt cheap bundle with all the subsequent expansions, is much better balanced, and everything is fixed. Did that with V a few months ago and am very happy with it.

I ran the bench mark and was around 145 fps to 174 fps. Game look gorgeous to me on the highest settings. I know Nvidia released a new driver for this game and a few others today. The AI will double team you pretty early on, so prepare yourself to be fighting wars on 2 fronts.

Barbarian spawn rates are insane, seems like there is at least 2 encampments on my continent at all times. So far I love it. Playing on Warlord just to get the feel of how it plays and Im crushing the AI. Might play a few more hours on this map before I go for a higher difficulty.

Can you check and see if there's an INI or settings file you could edit??

The developers hit it out of the park with this version. I like what the did with the workers. They made it where they can make a certain number of improvements before they are used up. No more micro managing of them. Also the trade routes automatically making roads was genius. I also like how you have to make choices about what districts to build in each city. Lastly, I really enjoy the way you can reduce the time to discover a tech by accomplishing things in the game. AI and barbarians are aggressive. You must not neglect your military. They will see if you are weak and attack.

Been so long since I dug deep into a Civ game, Civ 3 actually. I have 5 but barely played it. So needless to say I was totally lost and forgetting how to do things. Broke down and did the tutorial. Came back to me.

Agree with everything here. Just want to point out that what he means by "districts" is that you don't build all of the city improvements inside your city walls anymore - they get spread out into the hexes inside your borders. So, yeah, there's a lot of decisions to make due to space issues, and having a little extra money to throw toward purchasing additional hexes takes on more meaning than just winning the expansion race to certain resources.

I want to mention something about Great People that really took me by surprise - it's a lot different from before. Each civ still earns Great Person points (of about 8 or 9 different types) from various actions/buildings each turn. But unlike previous years, the effect of every great person is unique, even among the same class - no two Great Scientists have the same effect, in other words. This means that there's a very real race between the civs to get the points needed to acquire one and it's first come, first serve when they do get enough points. You can also choose to pass on a Great Person if you want, and only lose a small amount of points to set up having the opportunity to claim the next one.

Personally I had this work to my detriment in my first game where all of the great prophets were taken before I could reach theology (and you need a great prophet to start a religion). So, there was a maximum of 4 religions for the 6 civs in this game, and I simply didn't get one. I'm still playing the game out so maybe there's another option down the road, but it might mean I end up adopting one of the existing ones (there are some pretty nice user-chosen bonuses associated with religions).

Definitely agree with barbarians being much more aggressive. Add to that the fact that your cities cannot bombard until you reach a certain point in the tech tree, and it means you absolutely have to garrison a unit inside them for safety early on.

God help us all, I've got old-school Gandhi in my game (longtime Civ players will know what I mean):

Those second agendas (which can only be seen with an "open" access level) are somewhat random, so it's not always going to be a nuke-happy Gandhi.

my gosh this game is deep, in the past it always took Civ a few expansion packs to get really good. They nailed it with Civ 6, This is the Civ I've been waiting for.
