They really need to nerf the time clock in the upper left corner, time goes by way too quick.

Played for about 4 hours last and I came away with a few conclusions.

-Need to be very thoughtful about city placement, food has not seemed to be a problem for me but it sure is tough to generate production when you don't have hills nearby. A few of my early cities are essentially useless as they take 29 turns to build a simple infantry unit.

-other Civs take notice of weak militaries and will attack. I was able to hold them off but could not generate a counter offensive, accepting a peace deal that's not on my terms has been a tough pill to swallow.

-Do not neglect religious units! I had a flotilla of Japanese apostles land on my shore and I had no counter. I was able to maintain my religion in most of my cities but lost a few cities to other religions.

That's where Japan had F'd up though, I had learned my lessons from early on and now have a formidable military. The crusades begin when I get off work tonight!

Really wish there was a sale already. I could get the DVD version at BB with GCU discount but I don't want to have to have a disk

Wow, shocked it dropped for MAC out of the blue so fast! Of course, I finally decided to pick up XCOM2 for PS4 yesterday. I'll probably be picking this up later even though I'm trying to limit my gaming purchases. Must have game for me.

Yeah I have to give the AI some unexpected credit here, I'm into the late stages of the game and, while I'm pushing hard for either a science or culture win, I'm feeling extremely threatened by Scythia who has converted 5 of the 6 civs, with only mine left. I thought I was going to run away with this game, but I didn't see this religious push coming until it was almost too late. I'm actually a little disappointed the other civs haven't resisted it all that much - they're supposed to be aware of the victory conditions but didn't do much to go against that push. I'm playing on Prince which is the "normal" level, so maybe they resist losing more on higher levels.

The game has been relatively peaceful aside from some early small wars, and me declaring colonial war on Philip II who was two eras behind me (that's a Casus Belli "reason for war" that doesn't hit you with the warmonger penalty as severely). The other civs didn't like that much at the time, but they got over it. I captured his nearest city in two turns and then just laid waste to his army before he called for peace.

I had an interesting exchange between a couple of Civs in my first warm up game. I was America and Spain declared war on me over my religion. I also had an angry Sumeria? (I think) due to some border and settling issues.

Well I was pretty much crushing Spain and moving to take the first city when I noticed Sumeria rushing troops at my border. He declares war and now fighting war on 2 fronts. I had 2 city states that became loyal to me during the war so the city state closest to Spain fought off Spain while blitzkrieged Sumeria. Great stuff.

I love the fact that you can pay friendly city states to take over their armies. I had a similar situation where I had a 2 front war and knew training enough units would have crushed my bank account but a palty sum of 650 gold gave me about 8 units for 30 turns.

I think Im done with my warm up game, Im cruising right now and I my early flaws are glaring. My next play through I must be more considerate where I place my cities so I can take advantage of the adjacency bonuses(space cities close enough where 2 cities can take advantage of one industrial center)

Spending most of the first hundred turns fighting of barbs. Didn't read a ton about the game which is a surprise. Learning as I run through this first game.

I don't have any love lost for IGN but this is a really good review. Can't disagree with much of any of it. Totally agree with the game being the most "complete" launch Civ in the series.

I actually can't wait for an expansion pack now though because it's going to add a totally new aspect to the game. Civ V in its current state is very good but the vanilla launch version was barebones and lacked multiple features from Civ IV.

This is my game of the year so far, BF1 is really fun but Civ VI is incredible. This game reminds me of the Futurama Episiode where time just starts jumping forward. I started a new game at 10 pm last night, at 1130 I said 3 more turns. Went to bed at 130...

I had an 7 hour marathon session the other night. Started at 8:00 pm and played until 3:00 am. Wake up at 5:30 for work. I was hating life. Literally did not get up during that entire 7 hour stretch to do anything.
