              I am still sad.
I posted this video on twitter a few weeks ago but it's still equal parts sad and hilarious. Got into a bit of a scrap with some other horseback riders and was finishing off a guy driving a cart. Well just after I kill the guy the horses driving the cart plow into me. My poor horse proceeds to get trampled until it's dead, couldn't even revive it. Gone forever.

I had just broken in this horse not even an hour before, it was the best horse I had seen in the wild up to that point.

Fan of the executioners mask and pump shotgun for holdups and robberies, really satisfying.

Finished the main story, doing some of the challenges and hunting. I wanted to say character wise(end game spoilers)

That video was HEARTWRENCHING! I only knew the horse for thirty seconds and I could instantly feel the pain you felt. I'm so sorry man.

I'm still running strong with my horse Phyxius, though admittedly I did track down this white horse with nearly maxed attributes only for it to slip away from me. He/she would have likely become my number one with the saddle. I need a backup plan, we all do! Otherwise, currently any other backup is going to be named Nathan Peterman.

Your horse following you on missions where you are aboard other modes of transportation is totally ridiculous, horrible oversight by Rockstar. They spend all this time and money crafting new heights of realism in this game, and such a poor design sticks out like a sore thumb, totally kills the immersion.

I get that it's immersion-breaking, but do you really want your primary mode of free transportation left on the other side of the map while you take the train to another town? And hopping off the train to go get your horse from a stable that's wormhole-linked to all of the other stables in the game (which you would be doing if your horse didn't follow you) isn't exactly immersive either IMO.

This is a QoL thing through and through.

Yeah I don't think the dev attempts to add immersion necessarily equal an attempt to make the game more realistic. Some immersion tools are more realistic, sure, but I think they're generally to connect you to the world and your character in a more granular way than we usually get in a game. Like it's not realistic for someone to down a piping hot bowl of stew in two seconds either, and so some immersion comes with a necessary QoL balance.

Man this thread is going strong. I was on the fence for a long time. Really struggled with the emersion stuff. Made a couple posts about how it feels tedious. After about 10 hours (on chapter 3), I'm starting to have incredible playing experiences. The missions are getting better but its about being in the world and making decisions.

The beauty of the game is the random events that occur. To put it vaguely, the game puts you in situations where you must act. Regardless of the choice, it seems there are branching scenarios and opportunities that can unfold. For example I saw something happening to someone, I decided to help him (even though he didn't seem like the best guy) and he ended up telling me a tip about a certain event occurring... I cannot wait to go there and make another decision that will probably have another branching outcome.

These things unfolding organically are way better experiences than the missions thus far. I'm the one stumbling on them and find it fascinating to dig into the game layer by layer.

Not to mention Dead Eye and Eagle Eye, which are definitely not realistic, but important mechanics that help the player.

Yes, very much so. Sometimes you should help the law, and other times you should help the outlaw, and you never know which way is best really.

What's really interesting is I spoke to a stranger who was telling me a story, and as they asked me something that sounded ludicrous, the game asked me to "tell the truth" or "tell a lie" or something like it, and to me it felt like telling a lie was the best way to go about things to comfort the man's position. The game rewarded me with honor by doing so.

I love the journey to a destination because I know that I will have several stops along the way based on something happening. You just never know what you're going to run into. This is something that does not happen in the GTA games, and frankly given the times and environment(s) I'm not sure you'll ever have the same kind of slowdown opportunities. It's what really brings this IP to another level.

I'm so protective of my boy Big Black that I won't even let my girl use him! I went and found her another horse that was a "temporary horse" that I used simply trying to escape gunfire in an earlier mission that I left in the wild.

Thing is, it never disappeared. Even after weeks, it stayed right there marked on the map for me to go back to him whenever somehow.

So I figured he seems loyal as ****. That'll be her horse. So I let her play and do some missions with "Chino". After she was done, I went back to camp to switch back to Big Black, and he was GONE!!!

How the hell did I go all this time, and do all these missions and this "temporary horse" stayed available on the map, then we do a few missions with that horse and my main man Big Black gets removed from the game?!

So I'm low key panicking and searching the entire camp for him. Nothing. I Google the problem and some folks say check your stables. So I literally rode to every stable available to me, NOTHING. Back to camp again to see if maybe he popped back up. Nope. NOTHING. It's been about 45 minutes and zero sign of Big Black anywhere. Lots of comments online talking about people having their horse deleted as well.

So I'm hurting. I'm regretting letting my girl play. Debating if this is a relationship I even want. I'm thinking of putting one between Chinos eyes and leaving him to the gators.

Then I go last resort... restarting my PlayStation. Its going through its 10 minute loading screen and I'm praying that entire 10 minutes man. Game opens back up to Arthur at camp. I fast walk over to the hitching stations...and my prayers were answered!!! Big Black was there safe and sound!

Might've been the happiest moment of my life and I just had my first child this year [emoji23]
