Can someone explain, I'm playing the story, and albeit, i'm still in chapter 1 at what point do you get to stray away from the story line? I've tried to walk off twice on my own, just to have the weather kill my horse, then me.

Up next for me is to rob the train, while that's fine and dandy, I'm already about sick of Having to Do Things in the game, I just want to wander and create my own path.

Man this game is crazy. Just doing a little friendly competition with this guy to find who is the better shooter and I ended up losing the first round and he got cocky so we did another bet to double the price to $10.00 and it was who can shoot the most birds. Safe to say I won this one barely. The guy got mad, I took the money (which I won fair and square) and like 15 minutes later in the game same dude and his buddies are chasing me on horseback, shooting at me wanting his money back.

I love this game more and more. So far I’ve put like 6 hours into it and barely done much. I keep getting distracted by simple things haha.

I'm still in the snow. I have only finished Mission 1. I looked it up and free roam begins after you finish Chapter 1, which is approximately 6.9%. Chapter 1 is the tutorial.

Once Chapter 2 begins you can free roam the world.

I did that same competition with the guy and lost and refused to give him his money. Ended up robbing and killing him and dumping his body under the bridge.

Sorry to break up the lovefest for this game for a moment, but I'm coming home from Best Buy with the game and I am pretty pissed.

How is that possible, may you ask?

A couple of hours ago, I go an e-mail that said my pre-order was canceled. This is because I preordered this in January 2017 and my card expired this August. I have the same card number and everything, just a new security code and expiration date (which I updated on the site the day I got it, by the way).

There were several concerns I had with the cancellation:

- No game availability for purchase
- Loss of pre-order bonuses
- New GCU policies
- No $25 off Visa Checkout promotion (I mention it at the beginning of this post)

They had the game in stock, but that's about where the benefits were going to end. Because my game was canceled, my $25 off is no longer applied and they said there isn't anything they can do about it (not even honor with a gift card or something, though I'm going to call them about this tomorrow). They said there is a $10 off bonus for pre-ordering that they would honor on top of my GCU, but it shows a total of $19 off before tax. Wouldn't that be $22 off if I get my $12 off the game plus the extra $10? Unfortunately this manager is a big "Take it or leave it" kind of person who I've dealt with before, and this is what I had to stick with.

I was under the impression that when I paid the game off in full that I have already paid that money. Apparently it was just a hold on my card. But I got the e-mail this afternoon. What if I picked up the game last night? What, I would have the game and they would cancel my order? I really don't understand this.

So instead of thinking that I have already paid off this game (which would have cost me a whole $23 + tax with GCU, Visa Checkout, and pre-order promotion applied), I had to pay $41 + tax and there will be an extra $25 added to my credit card statement. Basically, I'm now paying for more than the game's full price. Hell, if I picked it up last night and they "canceled it" I would have gotten it for free, but of course I was unavailable for that as well. Including gas, my net profit from tutoring out of town combined with this whole venture made me lose quite a bit of money.

Let this be a cautionary tale: don't ever pre-order an item that releases past your card's expiration date.

I also won't be able to play it for about five more hours or so, too many other things I have to do. I'll likely be dead-tired as well. I guess that's what I get for being a good person to others, oh well.

Maybe I’m confused with how donating to the camp works, but I have tons of provisions I don’t need right now and want to donate to the camp, but when I select donate items it brings up the screen but shows nothing to select but my pocket watches I’ve looted off bodies. Can I give my provision items?

One of, if not the biggest, wow moments I've ever had in gaming

Riding along the board road through the mudflats, and the progression though the farms, and then into St. Denis as night was falling. That sense of contrast and buildup moving into what is, no question, the greatest and most atmospheric urban environment Rockstar has created in St. Denis. It's just a moment of awe I don't know if I've ever experienced in a game. The density and detail of the lighting, textures, scale, the back alleys teeming with seedy characters. I don't ever really know what to say at this point. I was just sitting there in disbelief. I mean, really the whole journey on horse from Valentine to St. Denis is an experience I've never had before in a game. It felt "real" in a way I don't know a game has ever captured.

Also, seems like they didn't just use that amazing tech for snow.

I'm not the biggest fan of the way the game handles at all times, but its problems are completely forgivable because of what a work of art it is. It's not going to be for everyone—it's slow and deliberate, but I think for a lot of us older gamer's RDR 2 is a game we'd always dreamed of.

Wow, I just accidentally hit restart mission instead of the check point option after failing and I lost so much progress.

Edit: actually wasn’t that bad. Most of the time was spent browsing outfits haha. Still would be careful about selecting restart mission though.

I did the same thing lol, not sure if it's just me but it's hard for me to see the text on the screen, and I have a 55in OLED.

This is exactly how that went for me.


I played so much today and still haven’t upgraded a single thing as far as satchel, dead eye etc goes. Haven’t even seen one of the animals I need for a satchel upgrade.

Not sure if you're on PS4 but on there you have to push L3 and R3 at the same time.
