The only thing I want for Xbox 3 is a harddrive.

To add to that, the current Xbox HD is used to speed loading times and load levels so that the Xbox doesn't have to pull data from the DVD all the time. Now with an Xbox with a HD and one without, developers are either going to have to develop games differently for each Xbox type or they'll develop for the lowest level Xbox (Xbox Next) and just port the game to the Xbox HD - which leaves the HD as a large memory card. The HD would be useless in terms of load levels and loading times.

Just something I was thinking about it. I'm not sure I really like the idea of having 3 Xbox's if this would hold true.
I think you answered your own question late in your statement.

Companies will make their games for the strongest of the three versions and then dumb them down for the other versions.

However, we could be looking at it a bit too much. All games have loading times. Some just don't show them to us because of how quick they are. If you don't have an XBOX HD then you'll suffer longer waiting times. If you do then you'll fly briskly through them. Probably won't even notice them on XBOX PC.

What I'm saying is that every game will likely be designed the same. I don't think we'll see a Grand Theft Auto: Hookers 'R Us XBOX Next, Grand Theft Auto: Hookers 'R Us XBOX Next HD, and Grand Theft Auto: Hookers 'R US XBOX Next PC.

The different systems will just run the games differently depending on their capabilities.

i think the companies would probably make the game for the lowest console, because the hard drive xbox will be able to load faster then the normal xbox will. My feeling is a lot of people are going to be buying the xbox without the hard drive because it will be about 50 dollars cheaper.

It would almost be worth the $50 bucks to not have to mess with a memory card, which would probably be around $20-25 bucks, as well as the quicker loading times. Its just me, but I would pay the extra $$$.

That's my thought. Of course this is just speculation on my part. I just hope that this doesn't mean, games will be somewhat "dumbed down" for the lowest console. I mean that in the sense that if a game was developed for the highest console, there could be a chance that a game might stutter on the non-HD model since it wouldn't be able to handle the load levels as well as the HD model. Therefore, the HD model could handle a more graphic intensive game, but if games are "dumbed down" we wouldn't see it.

I'd get the Xbox with a HD though. Simply because it's probably only going to be $50-$75 more and I'd prefer a HD over a memory card.

In any case, it'll be interesting to see what MS does...

Yeah, I don't think any of the games for Xbox 2 will look or play any differently on the 3 versions of the console (if there are really going to be 3). The hard drive shouldn't be as pivotal in the next generation since the console itself will have a much faster processor and more RAM at it's disposal. That's not to say that certain games couldn't take advantage of the additional storage, but I don't think it is going to make a huge difference in the performance of the software.

I will probably lean toward the HD version as well, since I'm sure there will be plenty of downloadable content and it is a convenient way to store game saves, etc. And you never know what other applications you could use it for...DVR perhaps?
