How do I tackle my backlog?

Well, One way is to not buy digital all the time. I feel if I have a game case staring me in the face then I'll be much more inclined to play the game due to the physicality of it being there. As I feel a physical copy had more purpose being in my life(ie having to go to store and pick it up)

    Currently Digitally

I have GTA5. I never finished it and prob will not
I Have MGS4. I never finished it and feel the game is very boring and overly complicated. I am NOT looking forward to Kojima's next game.
I have Watch Dogs 2. I free roamed for over 40 hrs in it, but never did much story. I enjoyed the depiction of san fran much more than I thought I would.
I have Ratchet and clank. Played what I thought was entertaining for about 2 hrs, then stopped. Will not continue it.

    Currently Physically.

I have Zelda"Breath of The Wild. 190 hrs in and imagine e spending another 100 easily with it if not more. Best game Ive played in over a decade and longest Ive ever played a game ever.
I have Persona 5. This game is so different from Zelda but is something I can not wait to devote my time to.
I have MLB The Shw 17. its a sports game I will always play those.

Re: How do you tackle your backlog?

My backlist and a example of how it is always growing on me. I have basically been only play Zelda since it came out around 95 hours and still have around 50 shirns left and lots of side missions to. I need to go back and play Horizon and Yooka-layee just came out last week and in a little less then a month from now Injustice 2 comes out. NBA playoffs are now going to which means I will have zero time to play any games for like a month. I am about 11 NBA games backed up on DVR by the time I get off work tomorrow night. So by May I will have added 3 games in just this year.

Ok......so I went ahead and took inventory of all the games I have yet to play all the way through on both my PS3 and PS4.....this list is ridiculous and I am banning myself from purchasing any new games (other than Madden 18, The Show 18, Far Cry 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2) until I am done.

See my problem? I am a video game addict.

I purchased a good majority of these games in the discount bin for under $20 or less (some for 3 bucks, some for 5 bucks on PSN blowout sales, some are free from PS Plus) I want to play and finish everyone of these titles before I purchase another game. So Give me a top 5 for each system to tackle.

I know The Witcher 3 will consume me......so maybe I need to save that one after I tackle a bunch of these other RPG’s, Telltale story based and action RPG's first. I had started The Witcher 3 and loved it....but then realized I wanted a different build after I figured out what I was doing.

              Currently I am playing:

              MLB The Show 17
              Horizon Zero Dawn

              In The Que:

Skyrim Remastered - Plan on finishing up this awesome play through by completing the main story, Dark Brotherhood and Dawn Guard and Dragonborn DLC

Cool thing about Skyrim is it is a game I can always just sink right back into anytime.

Deus Ex Mankind Divided - This will be my next adventure.

So boys......wish me luck. And I must stay strong! LOL I have a plethora of great games up there.

Any suggestions on which PS3 title I should hit as well? I still love my PS3.....have ton’s of my games still which I played and finished (Mass Effect Series, Dead Space Series, NCAA 14, Top Spin 4, Fight Night 4 and FNC, just to name a few).
              Now Playing on PS5:

How do you tackle your backlog?

This year I made a conscious effort to limit my video game spending to about $150. So far, the only games I have bought are Battlefield 1 for about $40 and The Show 17 for full price. This self imposed amount has really helped to not add many games to my backlog. It's just not smart to purchase games when you have many on the shelf that are great games and are bought and paid for.

The next game I look to tackle is The Witcher 3. I have played about 15 hours and was really enjoying it but stopped playing for whatever reason. I have decided to start over and let that be the sole game I play until it is finished.

Great topic by the way. It is interesting to hear how everyone goes about tackling their backlog. I also think digital downloads make it too easy to buy games when you wouldn't normally, especially when they are on sale for good prices.

Yep i am right there with you. I have only purchased MLB The Show 17, Horizon Zero Dawn and pre-ordered Madden 18.

I am 100% sure that will be it until Black Friday where I may look to snag a couple of titles really cheap....to add to my back log LOL.

But I am pretty set for 2017 no doubt. I am seriously going to tackle this backlog one game at a time (in between playing baseball and football).

I look forward to checking games off the list.

I'm tempted to now list all the games in my backlog, and maybe I'll do that in a following post.

I've actually been watching a lot of That One Video Gamer "the Video Game Completionist" on YouTube and I think I'm going to adopt the mentality of once I choose a game to play, it's the ONLY GAME I'll play until I finish it.

Like right now, I've been pouring time into The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild. I mostly play that, but then I wind up mixing in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, MLB The Show 17, NHL 17 ... you get the picture. Next thing you know, it's been several days since playing Zelda and my progress stalls.

So, I'm going to pour all of my time into Zelda and then once I finish that, I'll take a look at my backlog, choose the next game and dive in.

Armor, if you're looking for a recommendation from your PS3 list, I'd go with Back to the Future. That's one you can enjoy and finish without a massive time investment.
                      Currently Playing:
                      MLB The Show 25 (PS5)

That is exactly what I do.

Sports games are not part of this equation as that is what my video gaming life revolves around.

But I am playing Horizon Zero Dawn till completion. Then I will move on to another title and not stop till I am either done, or sick of it.

I did that with Fallout 4. I played the crap out of that game and I just got tired. But like I said...with sandbox games I can always shelve them for a while, and come back to them and pick up where I left off. It typically takes me 3-5 hours to get my bearings back and refresh myself on controls and quest lines.

But games that are more linear in nature (but still sand box options) I typically play through till I am finished. I did that with Far Cry 3, Far Cry 4, Far Cry Primal, Alien Isolation, The Last Of Us, Mass Effect Trilogy, Dead Space Trilogy.

I played all those till completion.

So I am a one game at a time player. I just have so many freaking games LOL!!!

One thing I started doing too is I always play these games on Normal difficulty (Alien Isolation I played on easy and it was still very tough) and if I run into any issues or am just stuck....I dial the level down to get through it and then put it back to normal. I simply do not have time to be "stuck" on a level, or a boss for an unreasonable amount of time.

The story is the most important part of these games for me. I can sacrifice some challenge (I don't give a crap about trophies) to move the story along.

On Normal difficulty I have not had to really ever dial a game down. But every now and then I will come across a game where I have to do that to advance the story.

I'm all about playing on Normal or Easy mode. I appreciate a challenge, but like A&S, don't really enjoy having to replay levels/bosses over and over again to advance the story when playing on a higher difficulty.

Old steam sales got my PC backlog filled up(steam sales haven't been as good lately), then the free monthly games for PS plus and Xbox live gold accounts added on to it, same for origins "on the house" they occasionally update. Probably have as many free games added to back log as purchased games.

I'm screwed now. I've had a pretty good backlog for awhile on the PC and Xbox One and now I just got the free trial to the Xbox Game Pass which I'm sure I'll keep and that just added on more games lol. Plus EA Access. Ugh. I'm like A&S where my game time revolves around sports games but I try to sneak in other games as well. I feel as if I'm never going to get there with my lack of gaming time.
