Exactly what I was thinking. Not to mention he’s justifying all reviews based off a few beta hours. I’m honestly starting to think reviewers shouldn’t review these games or they should at least be forced to review them again every 4 months or so. Division, destiny etc. all seem to do bad review wise at launch and they almost always end up on a great state with a large player base.

I see people online saying stuff like “this game shouldn’t launch half done”. Which makes no sense to me. You can’t expect these games to be in their finished state at launch. It shows some people just don’t understand what these games are.

I think the critics have been overly harsh. I don’t see this as a low 60s game. I’m having fun.

This game is really pretty on the Pro. Just played a little on my Slim and it’s a big downgrade. Maybe the biggest difference I’ve seen.

There’s plenty of classic bioware in this game. People getting mad at companies for trying something different seems to be a common trend lately. I wish people would just stop whining and not play the game if it doesn’t interest them. Instead we live in a time where they need to get on social media and cry about it so everyone knows how mad they actually are.

That is part of it. The other part of it is that they been working on this game for 6 years and Bioware themselves said Mass Effect Andromeda wasn't great because the vast majority of their company's resources was busy making Anthem.

Bioware had a legendary history. But to be honest their last great story game was Mass Effect 3, except for the last 10 minutes of the game. Dragon Age Inquisition was good, but it was pale in comparison to Dragon Age Origins. Mass Effect Andromeda was no where near as deep and good as Mass Effect 3.

So yeah Bioware been spiraling downward for quite a while, basically ever since EA bought them because EA forces everybody to use the Frostbite engine, which is an engine designed for FPS. All the former Bioware people who left in recent years have said this and that is the reason why they left. That engine severely limits games that aren't FPS.

With all that said, Anthem is a fun game. Did it live up to the hype ? In it's current state NO. 8 months to a year from now with many content updates ? Who knows. If EA supports this in the long term long like Ubisoft support their games for years, then a year from now Anthem will be popping.

If you totally forget about what they showed at the last 2 E3's about what this game was going to be and look like, then yeah you will enjoy the game. There is mindless fun to be had. What the game is currently suffering from is a variety of content. But that content is coming down the pipeline.

Is Anthem a game of the year contender ? Hell no. But it isn't the worst game out there either.

Just my own personal opinion (very long post) and spoiler tagged because of it but no actual spoilers -

Spoiler

1. In a loot based shooter, it's all about the loot. Ignore if the loot is forgettable or not but my problem is that you can't see or equip the loot you gain while playing. Instead, you have to go back to Fort Tarsis to do all of this. In my opinion, this completely defeats the purpose of the game being a loot shooter because what's the point in giving the player loot if you have to literally go back to the fort to see and equip it?

2. As a single player gamer, Anthem simply restricts players from playing this way. I can't participate in Strongholds unless I have at least one team mate. Like why? Why can't I play them solo? Because Strongholds are part of the story campaign, I would basically be restricted from completing the story unless I want to play with someone. For a game that doesn't have any PvP nor has been announced to have PvP, this is just weird to me.

3. Loading screens. Maybe the extent of them is overthrown but go back to my first complaint, to do that, loading screen. Equip your weapons (if they even end up be worth equipping) and boom, another load screen. Just way too many. The Division 2 will have a seamless open world full of interiors with no loading screens. For a game that's been in development for six years, there's no excuse for this. Completely takes you out of the game. I don't want to see a loading screen every five minutes.

4. World is empty. Watch the E3 2017 trailer. What happened? Why not just copy that and put it into the full game? The world map is also horrible and you can't place waypoints whatsoever. Horrible design in my opinion.

5. Anthem may be fun but so was Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 for me but it's still an above average 6/10 game at best. When I read people saying that the game is fun with other players, that tells me that without those other players, the game completely falls apart and isn't any fun whatsoever. Everything is fun if you're not alone. I mean come on. Watching the Angry Joe review video and the stuff he shows IS in the game. Not like it's fake or anything. It's in the game. Can't argue all the problems the game has when they are in the game.

6. Other problems is that EA is charging you $60 (or more) at launch. The game SHOULD be complete. Live service games are meant to ADD content, NOT add cut content from the $60 base game. This is simply bull crap.

7. EA forced BioWare to use the Frostbite engine which as great as it is, simply is NOT meant for open world games or action adventure games. DICE created the engine for themselves and they only develop first person shooters. It's what the engine is designed for. Forcing BioWare to use an engine that's not suitable for the game that they are developing is simply counter-productive.

8. BioWare (and EA) have had SIX years minimum of development. Game started in 2012. They have had PLENTY of time to see what other games like it have done at launch and beyond and to simply avoid it all. Destiny, The Division and Destiny 2 are easy comparisons. When reviewers say that there's MORE content in Destiny and it's better, that should tell everyone something.

All of the above completely subtracts from the few positives the game does have. The visuals despite the downgrade (even though I give them a pass for this simply because every game unless noted otherwise is always running of a high end power PC and is always heavily modified and edited for demonstration purposes) still look absolutely gorgeous.

Also, the core gameplay mechanics of flying and traversal are said to be great which I do believe but there is one major issue. The main draw of Anthem is to fly around like you're Iron Man, plain and simple yet nothing in the game revolves around this or is built around this aspect.

None of this includes the horrible fact that if you get into your game sooner than your teammates, those who are left behind miss out on the story content and narrative. You're simply behind. Because of this, you're also behind your teammates and get a countdown clock in which if you don't "catch up", the game ends your session and guess what? Loading screen. SMH. Not only that but that pop-up message with the countdown clock covers your heat/cool gauge meaning that you won't know if you're overheating or not.

It's fine if some of you are enjoying the game and having fun with it but trying to hide the game's valid flaws isn't good at all because EA and BioWare won't get any better if people cover up their flaws. I wanted Anthem to be good because how could "flying around like Iron Man" NOT be any fun and enjoyable but way too many issues in this game. Worst of all is that some problems will never be fixed because they're in engine and simply can't be.

Sorry but SIX years of development time and at least THREE examples of what NOT to do for launch and yet, Anthem releases in a worse state than Destiny 1 and 2 and The Division. Sorry but that simply shouldn't happen.

Some will argue all of this which is fine but if my complaints are IN the game, how can they be argued? Can't argue something that's flawed and hasn't been fixed.

P.S. - Even worse, unlike The Division 1 and 2, PlayStation Plus and/or Xbox Live Gold IS REQUIRED to play the game even if you want to play solo but since there's a few missions in which you can't play solo, it makes sense but still sucks because you see the huge flaw in it. Division 1 and 2 can be played fully solo except for the Dark Zone since it's based around PvP more than PvE.

Way too many flaws in this game and gamers need to stop giving the games that are legitimately bad free passes because it only means that the next game will turn out even worse. When Mass Effect Andromeda was better received than Anthem, that should probably tell everyone something.

This isn’t necessary at all. I have no problem with people saying they dislike it for various reasons. Critical posts often are more interesting imo. But to slam other gamers for playing a game you don’t like adds nothing to this thread. Don’t like the game? Fine. Say your peace and move on.

So because most of us on here arnt blindly hating the game because of the EA symbol we dont know good games. This game is far from perfect but it's not as bad as a lot of these reviews. People are just upset that it's not Dragon Age or another Mass Effect and most of the complaining I read is because of the type of game it is. 50% on metacritic is laughable.

I already expressed my dislikes, but of course people naturally go against that so therefore I respond. This is a forum you know. This is just like people saying the bad reviews aren't warranted because they don't feel the same. I'm not telling anyone they shouldn't buy the game.

Who said anything about EA and i played the beta so that's what I based my opinion on. Everyone isn't upset because it's not like other Bioware games. Some just don't think it's a fun game.

The higher standard comment is being taken a little too personal. Just saying my fun isn't your type of fun.
