    Vampyr

One of the games on my want list for this year is Vampyr. Reading this E3 Preview has gotten me more excited. Game is scheduled around November.

You play Dr. Jonathan Reid who, at the game’s outset, has just become a vampire. It takes place in 1918 London, and the alpha-build demo they showed off happens during the first act. Without going too in-depth into the details of the opening plot, Reid is looking for a man in town who he suspects of committing murder. He doesn’t want to lock the man up; he just wants to ask a few questions and get the full story from the horse’s mouth.

While looking for the suspected murderer, you can wander around town to your heart’s content and get to know the townspeople as you please. Every NPC you encounter has a name, a backstory, and a subplot you can learn about through conversation, as well as relationships to other townspeople. Additionally, each and every one of them is also a potential victim for you to feed on, should you so wish.

Being a vampire, obviously you need blood to survive. There are your standard “bad guys” who will attack you now and then, and by taking them down you can regain some blood and claim a paltry amount of EXP. Potentially, you could go through the entire game without killing any NPC, instead just grinding these battles over and over and over like you’re playing Final Fantasy and about to take on the last boss. The much faster way to gain EXP is finding NPCs, getting to know them, and chowing down on their necks.

You don’t just want to go sacrificing people all willy-nilly though. When you approach an NPC you can views their profile, which shows who they have close relationships with, how much EXP you would gain from killing them and sucking their blood, information you have learned about them, and so on. As you talk to them or those they are close to, the number of dialogue options there are with them and the amount of EXP gained by sacrificing them raises. Not all dialogue options are unlocked just through conversation though, as often you will have to take on side-quests for them in order to gain their trust, letting them feel more comfortable opening up to you. Alternatively, if you’ve got enough influence over a person you may mesmerise them and force them to tell you the truth about whatever you want to know.

    Gameplay 15-30 hours

    Re: Vampyr

Been excited for this game since I stumbled upon a video of it a few months ago. With all the zombie movies/games out there it's always puzzled me why vampires haven't had their own game. The only franchises that even come to mind are Legacy of Kain, Vampire the Masquerade, and Bloodrayne. 2 of those franchises haven't released a title in over a decade.

Here's an alpha video of the gameplay. I have to admit it looks rather rough, especially the the play acting and combat. I know its still in early alpha stages but it is concerning.

Graphics look fine to me. Nothing like Horizon Zero Dawn, but it's good enough.

The combat was a bit discouraging though. It looked a bit clunky. Like you said though this is an alpha video so we'll just have to wait for the release version.

Not starting off the new year off well fellas. My 2 day one buys for this year - set a side for that rainy day.

There's a 30 min video of Vampyr which I think is the opening part but it still says pre-alpha which should give them more time to clean up in the graphics and audio. Still looks promising though. I like how the monologue continues after you pause to jump in your menu. There are spoilers in here but the game shows you chances which you may or may not happen I guess. When making a decision, you'll get 4, or maybe 6 options to choose from at some time. Understanding the gameplay is essential. Video will give you an idea of that.

The game is 15 hours long and up to 30 if your doing all the side quests. Definitely getting it but weighing if on release or later. So many games, so little time.

Guess I pre-ordered this on Amazon a while ago. Just got my shipment notification. Will have to wait for reviews before opening it though.

Starting off well......Hey Poor Player Gives it 5/5!

Vampyr is a remarkable step forward for choice and consequence focused games, and could well be the blood-soaked harbinger of a new movement in interactive storytelling.

I'm certainly not writing the game off, but it might have the worse graphics I've seen on my ps4 pro.

I saw on MS's One X website that the game does not support 4K or HDR support. In a game like this, no HDR support is pretty disappointing.
