Why couldn't Kingdoms Of Amular have been made by an non train wreck of a studio, it had great potential as a series, IMO.

You know the old wistful statement, "I would pay 100 dollars for game X", it is totally true for me when it comes to Suikoden VI.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

            Skyrim.

And this is a guy who doesn't normally enjoy them.

Is Diablo 3 an RPG or more hack and slash?

            I love Diablo.

It's a mix of both. You certainly go around destroying every demon in sight (hordes of them, usually fighting huge groups at once), but how effective (or perhaps I should say "efficient") you can be at that is determined by your character's stats, equipment, and abilities. And there are far more of those to choose from than in the first Diablo.

Dragon Age Inquisition. It also had the best DLCs for any game in the past decade.

I must be living under a rock because I've never paid attention to The Witcher 3.

Looks like something I should get because of all the high praise it's getting on here.

I'm going to add another category. Favorite MMORPG.

                      For me it's Shadowbane.

To this day I have never been more passionate about any video game. It was just so much fun. It was like playing Game of Thrones (in fact the developers took a lot of inspiration from George R.R. Martin's books) with the game entirely focused on PvP and faction warfare. Players could build large cities for their clans/guilds and then have them reduced to rubble by an enemy faction.

Most MMO's have a game launcher have a button that simply says "ok" or "play" to load up the game. Shadowbane's launcher had a button that said "Play to Crush", and there really isn't any better way of describing it.

Dark Souls is the G.O.A.T, so yeah if it counts then this isn't even a question for me.

haha wow I've never heard anyone say that before, but I do think it was better than many reviews gave it credit for.

It was a beautiful game, with great music, and honestly one of the more story rich games of the series.

The only 2 faults I had with it was the completely linear gameplay until you're half way through the game, and the battle system wasn't my favorite. Capping your xp at each interval also kind of sucked (even if it did make sense with the story). Plus it had Lightning, and she owned.

Glad to see some people can at least see where I'm coming from!

Perhaps one of the reasons I think more highly of the game than seemingly most others is that I played it long after it came out (many years), so I wasn't really aware of what the consensus or internet thought of the game. It was basically just a game that came out of nowhere as far as I was concerned. And it blew me away. The production values, the story, the characters, the scope.

Now, the last Final Fantasy I played was VII for the original PS (and FF1 for the original NES before that), so obviously gaming had come a long way in that time, but to me it seemed like 10 generations of progress in gaming got skipped in between. I felt like I was playing a movie.

Re: the combat, I ended up really liking it, but it took forever (way too long) to really see the full potential of it. By the end of the game/post-game when you go monster-hunting on Pulse, I really liked the hybrid of turn-based/action combat, and flipping roles at just the right time, and flipping back-and-forth at light speed (once you get used to it and arrange everything how you want it) was quite exhilarating. But I would imagine 90% of players never got to that point, because, well, it's a pretty serious flaw in the game design if you have to get 50-60 hours into a game to unlock its full potential....

Re: the linearity, it's a legitimate complaint. But to be honest, I'm a bit fatigued of totally 'open world', mostly because they all seemingly consist of large areas to 'explore', but really all you end up doing is walking around collecting fetch quests and trying to break the game world. I liked how FFXIII drove the pace of the game constantly forward. But again, it's a corridor - that is a legitimate criticism/comment.

As far as the sequels....in my opinion they sort of get progressively worse, and none of them reach near the level of the original. But I played them all to completion anyway. Unfortunately, none of the endings ever got near the climax of FFXIII either - which, for me, is one of the best endings I've ever seen in a game.
