The cube might have the best exclusives of all the consoles.

And I don't think the DS is gonna have any problems. Its already selling like crazy and since it will play GBA games, there is already a huge software library for it.

GC definitely has the best exclusives of all the major consoles. PS2 has GTA: SA and GT, Xbox has Halo 2 but GC has all of the Mario titles(ranging from Sunshine to Tennis, all of which are great) and probably most importantly, Zelda. Of course there are some other titles that PS2 and Xbox have, but GC has the 1st party stuff that Microsoft and Sony can't compete with.

The problem is obviously that they don't get a lot of the games that PS2 and Xbox share.

But the last line there says it all, as long as the DS is selling, companies will make games for it and the good games will lead to more sales. Sony will have the backing to get into the handhel race, but so did Sega with their Game Gear. That came out when Genesis and Super Nintendo were neck and neck and still failed because Nintendo was out first and had the name recognition. The DS has a BIG advantage over the Virtual Boy in that it's innovation is practical towards making games better. VB was a nice visual gimic, but the visuals weren't going to make the games that much better. A second screen(touch screen at that) has a ton of possbilities to improving the gameplay experience.

Thats very arguable, you are leaving out games like R&C, Jak and Daxter, Sly Cooper, Onimusha, Ace Combat, Katamari Damacy, DMC, Socom, Disgaea, Final Fantasy(GC has a left over version) MGS(GC has a left over version) etc etc etc....... Even Xbox has a line games most would rather play Mario etc...(Fable, KOTOR, GR, Splinter Cell etc....) Nintendo used to have the claim of best first party/overall exclusives but not anymore.

Game Gear didn't have near the support that the PSP has. The PSP also has a world of more hype behind it. The system came out in Japan today is selling out everywhere. Go ahead check ebay and see how much Americans are shelling out for it.

Both systems will be (are) great, but make no mistake the PSP will not go the way of those other systems. The PSP is in this game for the long haul, and just like MS did with Xbox, Sony is playing for market share and to get them self known in the handheld market, The next time it will be to capture the market.

Just enjoy both systems, I'm waiting for PSP over DS because it has more features that appeal to me, but thats me.

You definately need a memory stick for save games and mp3's, a screen protector or case to protect that big screen and maybe a battery pack. That will add another $30 or $40 dollars so that's some added money you wont need for the DS.

True, the PSP is more expensive overall after games and accessories. Admittedly, I dropped down about $30 for a case for my DS that came bundled with some accessories, so the PSP stuff doesn't seem too out of line IMO. The more I see the PSP in action, the harder it is going to be for me to resist getting one when they come out. Although I know I will want one, I fear the wrath of my wife should I actually get one...

True, the PSP is more expensive overall after games and accessories. Actually your wrong Nintendo owns the handheld market and 3rd party titles.
Sonys jump is very very similar to Microsofts jump into consoles only I feel its worse for Sony. Several American and Japanese companies have failed when trying to compete with Nintendo because of the exclusive 3rd Party support is too much to compete with. Sony putting the reponsibility on developers to worry about load times and its implications with the lifespan of one charge is what i think will hurt the system.

ultimately, i want a portable gaming system to play games and to do it well without me having to worry about how much time i have left before i have to find an eletrical outlet.

Very, very good point. Battery has always been a big area of concern in the PDA arena. If my PDA can't last the whole day of abuse I put it through, then what good is it?

Now that the PSP is out, I'm going to try and find the specs on battery life through regular gaming and with wi-fi enabled. Be back with more later!

Very, very good point. Battery has always been a big area of concern in the PDA arena. If my PDA can't last the whole day of abuse I put it through, then what good is it?
