Re: Next-Gen Console Game Prices Rising Estimates (70-80 bucks a game)
This is more accurate than saying $70-$80. If anything there will be a $10 increase at the most, anything higher would be suicide.Originally posted by DXZekeAnother Article over at IGN was talking about how it would be a 5-10 dollar increase on the price of games. Most likely $54.99. Considering they are usiing bigger media and what not, I can deal with that. Since some games are worth the price.
I know the hope is that it doens't get out of control. I hope game companies are smart enough too realize that having a major price hike would really hurt the industy. The Nintendo 64 with it's outrageos prices at $80 per game about killed the system.
I can deal with 54.99.
What about you guys?Comment

Re: Next-Gen Console Game Prices Rising Estimates (70-80 bucks a game)
I can deal with 55 dollars but some of these games should not be 55 dollars. Say like nfl street thats coming out should be 40. In my opinion the games that arent so popular need to be lower because who wants to spend 15 dollars more on nfl street 2?
Maybe sega can be a trend setter, it would be nice to see games sell at 40 dollars or 30.Comment

70 to 80 dollars would be too high. This would scare off many consumers like myself.
With technology nowadays it is easier and less expensive to develop and press discs.
Just look at the DVD medium. A few years ago a DVD Writer was going for over $300 US, now you can get one for less than $100 US. Same with the discs. $2-3 US a few years ago, not you can get them for $.30 US.Last edited by Peter_OS; 12-10-2004, 08:26 AM.Comment

Hey funky!Originally posted by funkydelicWhat do you guys think about the increase in games for next gen consoles? Will it deter you from buying right away? Do you feel the extra money for games is justified?
If the games (specifically NFL games) are a significant leap in the way they look, sound, are animated and even depth, than the current Xbox and PS2 versions, then I will not hesitate for a second in purchasing them. Regardless of the price. This is one aspect of my gaming habits that puts me at an advantage over other gamers. I only buy 1 game a year. That game is NFL2k. So, if the games do go up to $70 or $80, that is all the money I am parting with every year for the next title.
I am definitely a 'quality trumps quantity' type of person.Comment

Re: Next-Gen Console Game Prices Rising Estimates (70-80 bucks a game)
Well the speculation that games will go up 5-10 dollars goes against what I thought was happening to the gaming industry.
I thought we'd all owe a HUGE thanks to SEGA for putting the ESPN line of games out at $19.99. At first when that happened, EA didn't budge. Later on, however, they did fold and decreased the prices of some of their games, albiet not as much as SEGA. It was a gaming price war, so to speak.
Now, with the way these sports games typically end up on the year-end top ten list of most sold games, I figured that some of the other gaming companies who are known more for other genres of games would possibly follow suit, realizing that while they're not competing with EA and SEGA with sports games, they are still competing for our gaming dollar, so they'd better jump into this price war with them.
I still think the above may happen...and we would all benefit from it. It reminds me of when I was around 19 or so, there was this one intersection in Charlotte with gas stations on 3 of the 4 street corners. Well, one day, one of the gas stations decided to lower their price per gallon from $0.99 to something like $0.85. The next day, the other two gas stations followed, each lowering their prices down to $0.84. This went on until all three gas stations were selling gas at $0.67 a gallon! This is when most places were around a dollar a gallon! It was when the managers of all three gas stations got together and had somewhat of a truce that the prices went back up to normal...but BOY was it nice while it lasted!
Think we could be in for something similar with video game prices?Comment

But, it'll likely happen with video game prices. My guess is that the games and systems could be higher than usual on launch. I see this happening because kids are going to demand the systems for the holidays and parents are going to fork over the money to satisfy little Timmy (if it were my kid I'd buy him a Nintendo and tell him to shut up).
After the initial push dies down, we'll see all of the prices go down dramatically to what we see today. But, I'm assuming this will happen in less than a year. I'd be willing to bet that if you wait till the second holiday push for the new consoles you'll be paying about 50% less than those that bought the system the year before."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. You wont be seeing any $19 dollar games anytime soon on the next gen consoles, the move to HD-DVD and Blue Ray is definetley gonna make the prices jump to 70-80 bucks for a couple of years, that coupled with the higher development budgets those prices will be etched in stone for a few years and here to stay.Originally posted by YankeePride_YPCollusion is illegal!

Oh no, not 19. I meant it'll go down to the 50 we see today."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied.
