Re: Next-Gen Console Game Prices Rising Estimates (70-80 bucks a game)

A $350-$500 console plus $70-$80 games = a lot of time with my current xbox. They will get away with whatever price they charge for the first 10-12 months because the hardcore gamers will buy any console Sony or Microsoft puts out. It's after that period, where they realize that the majority of people aren't going to pay that much for the console or a game, that the prices will drop. Sony could add a built in blender and cheese grater to the PS3 and add $100 to the price, people would still buy it the day it came out. But they will have to lower their prices within 18 months if they want to see the kind of sales PS2 and xbox are getting.

I won't buy a new system if that games are more than $60. Like a lot of people, I only buy a small handful of games each year, so I'm fine with paying an extra $5-$10 if the quality is that much better. But I'm not paying $70 on launch day to get some really nice looking, crappy playing game just because it's one of 10 games available for the system.

If they Change the price of the game I'm won't be buying, I don't crae how powerful the system is period!
With Sega turning out quality games for $19.99, I doubt too many companies would have the nerve to ask for $70/$80 for a game. I wonder how much the systems themselves will cost? I can't believe I paid $699 for a 3DO system back in early 1994. Oh well, Road Rash was fun.

Too many average games out to be forking over 70 bucks for.

I'd just rent a game untill I beat it or just buy the games I know are worth investing in.

Agreed, every game would need to take a significant leap in quality for me to justify forking over $70-80 for it. I would definitely be more careful with the games I buy, probably stick to the major sports games and other AAA titles.

Unfortunately, this would mean an increase in rental fees, but I suspect the high retail prices will give the rental companies a nice boost in business.

Seems like a bad idea to me, but if the game companies still see increased revenue with fewer unit sales, it's all good for them.

Ps1 games where 40bucks right, went up 10$ when the new con. came out. I have no problem dropping 60-70 for a game. I quit wasting money on othergames yrs ago. Only buy Ncaa football and college basketball every yr now. Havent shelled out for madden since it came out for the xbox!

Like others, I'll just quit console gaming if prices are $70-80 bucks a pop. Even $60 would have me hesitant on which games I'd buy. I also will definetly not buy a launch system, too many bad memories from years past...
