I only made it through 3 games in 2019. This year was tough with moving and starting a new job, so even when I did have free time, it was often spent doing other things. I think in 2020 I'll be able to dive into my library and check some games out that I really do want to play.

Re: 2019 Gaming Plans
Anyone else feel like their gaming just really went down hill in 2019?
Looking back at my prior posts in this thread. The majority of my "currently playing games", I quit after a few days, and most of the ones that I did play for more than just a few days are games that have been around for a while.
Games that I played for more than just a few days in 2019
Overwatch - No longer Playing
Destiny 2 - No longer playing
Diablo 3 - No longer playing
Final Fantasy XIV - No longer playing.
Total War Warhammer II - Still Playing
Beat Saber - Still Playing
All of the above were originally released in prior years. The only game released this year that I have played with any regularity, and even then much less than I have in prior year versions is:
OOTP 20
I was excited for a number of releases this year, several of which I purchased, but I just had trouble committing myself to them.Comment

Re: 2019 Gaming Plans
2019 was just a extremely poor year for games Atleast for the types of games I play which is the AAA blockbuster type games. It worked out fine for me as it allowed me the chance to clear out some older games and replay some classics.

Plus games are so big these days that it takes me forever to play through large titles. When I do have a block of time to play I usually want to feel like I made progress. I used to play JRPGs religiously but find them a total slog these days. Part of that is changing tastes, part of that is the way that genre has evolved and part of it is lack of time. I can spend my 45 minutes of game time to get 70% through the next area in Xenoblade Chronicles and feel frustrated because I know I won't touch it for another week to 10 days, or I can knock out a side quest or two in a game like Dying Light or play through a level in a single player game. Or I can play a game of my Franchise/Dynasty/The Show or work on booking my WWE Universe in 2K19.
I guess I'm rambling, but your post hits home for me. It's not that my gaming has gone downhill, it's that life has changed and I've had to adjust the types of games I play to get the most out of the time I do commit to gaming. I've rediscovered my love for sports games and have also spent more time playing RTS and Tower Defense games this year than I have in probably a decade. And I'm having a ton of fun. Probably more fun gaming than I can remember. It's different, but being open to other experiences outside of the traditional single player story driven stuff I've been so dead set on for years has really helped me enjoy gaming again despite less time than ever.
Anyways, sorry for the ramble, as I said, this just hits home.

Re: 2019 Gaming Plans
To me this is more about getting older. With a 3 year old, full time job, and family/social life obligations it just gets harder for me to stay current on games.

Re: 2019 Gaming Plans
Time to revisit 2019.
I bought more games than I had planned. The second half of the year was especially tough on my wallet, although nearly every purchase was on sale.
I think I'm at a point where I like the idea of playing more than actually playing. I can remember spending hours at a time on NCAA, MLB, Resident Evil, Final Fantasy VII, etc., back in the PS1 days. But I rarely play more than an hour or two at a time now.
Games Purchased
* - denotes game bought on sale
Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order*
Just grabbed this with some Christmas money. I'm only a couple of hours in, but I think I'm really going to enjoy this.
Star Wars Battlefront II*
May regret this since I'm strictly an offline player these days, but the sale got me.
Mortal Kombat 11*
Got this on Black Friday. It may be my GotY. I've had a blast with it.
Close to the Sun
I was excited for this survival game that looks similar to Bioshock. I finished it, but was a little underwhelmed at the end.
Dead or Alive 6*
Despite its well-earned rep, this game is still fun since it's a relatively easy fighter. Waited until they brought Momiji back to pick it up.
Ace Combat 7*
I needed a fighter jet game in my library. I've only played a little, but so far it's been fun.
NBA 2K20
With the NBA being more wide-open this year, I decided now was a good time to get back on 2K from the start. It's more fresh for me than other sports games, but it's been a lot of fun. I'm planning on just rolling with this for awhile. My Hawks are (slightly) better than the real-life version.
Soul Calibur VI*
I loved Soul Calibur IV on the PS3, so nostalgia got me to come back to this when it went on sale.
Madden 20
Stuck with the plan to get this on release day. It's Madden, but it's been fun. Another sports game that I'm planning on sticking with for awhile.
NBA 2K19*
Grabbed this as part of the $3 sale back in the summer. It was basically to get me warmed up for 2K20.
MLB The Show 19
Far and away my most-played game of the year. Finished the 2019 season playing every game and I'm about a third of the way through the 2020 season. I've hit a little bit of burnout, but I'm hoping to skip 20 and just keep on playing this for my baseball fix.
Madden 19*
Got it dirt cheap in March, basically to get me warmed up for M20.
NBA Playgrounds 2*
Satisfied my basketball fix in March.
Spider-Man*
I purchased this in late 2018, but it's on my list to finish at some point early in 2020.Comment

2020 is all about playing what I have. I own an immense collection of PS4 and PS3 titles. I cracked my backlog this year in completing several games. I have plenty of outstanding RPG and open world games in the backlog to play.
Sports games - I love what I have. The only possibility for 2020 is MLB The Show and that will be based on many factors. I know this is the last year focus will be on the PS4 version. Will they give us full franchise mode customization? Will there be meaningful improvements to franchise mode? If not......19 will be my baseball game for a few more years. I will not be an early adopter of the PS5. I just have so much in the library to keep me busy for a few more years easy.
I am loving The Show 19, Madden 20 (and 16), 2K18 and NHL 19. I am set in the sports department.
Non sports games I am stacked with so much good stuff. So I am looking forward to a great 2020 of playing tons of titles (which I purchased from anywhere to 60-70% off on PSN) on both my PS4 and PS3 (yes...NCAA 14, Fight Night 4 and a few PS3 titles I never got around too).
Happy and a healthy New Year to all.Last edited by Armor and Sword; 12-31-2019, 02:58 PM.Now Playing on PS5:

Re: 2019 Gaming Plans
I wanted to buy fewer games this year, but not sure I succeeded. I have a soft spot for the PS360 era and am trying to pick up every AAA and AA title I can from that era. With new consoles coming out next year I am going to have to fight the urge to pick up stuff from this gen that starts dropping in the price.
So next year I do want to avoid buying games outside of a few and just work on my backlog. I'd like to pick up The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword, a few Wii U titles, and maybe $50 worth of stuff otherwise if there's a good deal. But 2020 is intended to be all about my backlog. Here is how 2019 shaped out for me (off the top of my head:
Completed:
Batman: Arkham City (2nd playthrough)
Xenoblade Chronicles
Oxenfree
Emily is Away
Defense Grid: The Awakening
Dying Light
Rise of Nations
Atom Zombie Smasher (fun little steam game)
NCAA '12 through '14
MLB The Show '16 (Road to the Show)
MLB The Show '17 (started my Indians Franchise where ownership isn't cheap AF)
NBA 2k17 (continuing my Cavs Franchise with LeBron and Kyrie still in Cleveland)
Currently Playing:
NCAA 13 and 14
MLB The Show '17
Silent Hill (PSOne Classic on PS3)
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
Days Gone (I am chomping at the bit to get deeper into this one).
State of Decay 2
If I had to give out a GOTY award for what I played this year it would probably be Defense Grid. I had more fun with that game than anything else and can revisit it. But Dying Light, Oxenfree, and Emily is Away all were really enjoyable games. Dying Light was just pure fun and I love any type of zombie setting.
Oxenfree and Emily is Away were emotional gut punches. The last 45 minutes of my Oxenfree playthrough had my stomach in knots and the ending hit me like a gut punch.
So what's on the agenda for 2020? As I said, I am hoping to limit my game purchases to a handful of Wii/Wii U PS/360 era games. And possibly a couple older sports games (PS2 era Madden/NCAA).In terms of games, here is what I am hoping to play through:
Days Gone (so excited for this one)
Inside
Celeste
Emily is Away Too
Silent Hill
Silent Hill 2
Call of Duty: Modern Ware (Xbox 360 version)
Life is Strange: Before the Storm
Resident Evil 5
Horizon Zero Dawn (if time, this may be a 2021 project)
Continue my NCAA and MLB The Show Dynasties/Franchises
I also want to start my replay of the Mass Effect trilogy, but am going to wait and see if there is any news on a re-release since EA put out some feelers about that as a possibility.
Looking forward to another good year of gaming.Comment

Re: 2019 Gaming Plans
This was a strange year in gaming for me. I went through more stretches of not feeling inspired to play than any other year I can remember. Just when I thought I'd maybe turn into a "casual gamer" I'd find a game that would hook me enough to get me back playing on a consistent basis.
For 2020, I don't have many plans or goals. I'll just keep playing the games I want to play when the mood strikes me to play them. I won't be buying any of the sports titles or the new Xbox or PlayStation in 2020.
2019 In Review
Purchased
-RBI Baseball 19 (Switch)
I actually had a lot of fun with this game and put in close to 30 hours on it, making it my second-most played Switch game of 2019.
-Super Mega Baseball 2 (Switch)
I like this game a lot, but picked it up at a time where I was deep into my Mets franchise, so I haven't spent a ton of time with it.
-MLB The Show 19 (PS4)
Just started the 2021 season in my Mets carry-over Franchise from MLB 18. Lost in the NLDS in 2020. I've played every single game in this franchise.
-The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Switch)
Such a good game. I never played the original Gameboy version, so it was nice to have this re-imagined for the Switch. This was my most-played non-sports game of 2019, and most-played overall on Switch.
-Super Mario Maker 2 (Switch)
I really like this game, even though I'm not very good at the Expert/Super Expert levels. This game has so much replay value that I can take a break and pick it back up and know I'll have hundreds of levels to check out and play. I'm going to dive back into this in 2020.
-Luigi's Mansion 3 (Switch)
I'm almost done with this. What a great game! The visuals are stunning and the gameplay is overall, very responsive. Luigi's Mansion always seems to struggle a bit with camera angles, but it's not a game-breaker by any means.
-Fire Emblem: Three Houses (Switch)
I'm less than 10 hours into this one, but so far really like it.
-Madden 20 (PS4)
Just picked this up over my holiday break. I've played a few games and started a franchise with the Giants. I'm having fun and that's all I'm focusing on moving forward.
-NBA 2K20 (XB1)
Picked this up with Madden (both were on sale), but haven't had a chance to play it yet.
-NHL 20 (XB1)
I'm having a blast with this game. With EA Sports titles, you have to accept them for what they are at this point and stop complaining about things that will never change, especially for the offline gaming crowd. That said, there are some nice on-ice and presentation improvements that I appreciate and this is the most fun I've had with the NHL series since NHL 10-12.Last edited by DJ; 12-30-2019, 09:49 AM.Currently Playing:

Re: 2019 Gaming Plans
2019 was an odd year. I sunk tons of hours into this hobby but I didn’t complete many games. I feel like I’ve spent more than 100 hours on both Red Dead Redemption 2 and Kingdom Come: Deliverance. I said I wasn’t going to buy too many new games until I cleared some of my backlog. I cleared only two games from the backlog and bought more than that. It turns out I am a liar.
Games Finished in 2019
Assassin’s Creed Syndicate (PS4) – Level 10, 100 per cent completion.
Took time out from Assassin’s Creed Odyssey to go back and play this old style Assassin’s Creed game that takes place in London and features a brother and a sister as the main protagonists. It’s not a bad game by any means but it pales in comparison to the sprawling, epic worlds of AC Origin and AC Odyssey. I may not have completed if it wasn’t an Assassin’s Creed game but yet I stuck around along enough to get the platinum trophy (7.5 out of 10).
Red Dead Redemption 2 (PS4) – 89.2 per cent
I finished the main story but I’ve still got many of the challenges to complete. I loved the slow pace of the game, the beautiful vistas, the camp and the interactions with your fellow gang members. The best parts of the game are things like tracking all the animals and birds, riding through the morning fog, seeing distant lightning and singing around the camp fire.
The only two problems I had with the game is that every mission is too similar (kill dudes, repeat) and we all have an idea where the story is headed from the moment we start because of the original RDR. Haven’t playing much online (9 out of 10).
God of War 4 (PS4 – Give Me A Challenge) (9.0 out of 10)
Far Cry Primal (PS4 – Survivor – Hard) – 100 per cent (8 out of 10)
Thronebreakers: The Witcher’s Tale (PC – Bone Breaker) – (9.0 out of 10)
DLC Finished in 2019
Sniper Elite 4 DLC (PC – Snipe Elite Level) –Level 41, DLC 100 per cent completion.
One of the DLC missions gives you the chance to kill Hitler in a variety of ways including battering him with a casserole. What’s not to love? The Overlord missions were pretty decent as well (8.5 out of 10).
Witcher 3: Hearts of Stone DLC (PC – Blood and Broken Bones) – Character Level 53 (10 out of 10).
Assassin’s Creed Origins DLC: The Pharoah’s Curse (PS4 -- Hard) – Level 55, 100 per cent (9 out of 10)
Just Cause 3 DLC (PS4) Sky Fortress, 86 per cent; Mech Land Assault, 94 per cent; Bavarium Sea Heist, 100 per cent (6 out of 10)
2019 Purchases/PS4 Free Acquisitions
Unfinished Games that I’ve at least Started
Days Gone (PS4 – Hard) – I think I’m close to the end
*Far Cry 5 (PC) – 28 per cent completed
Jurasic World Evolution (PC) – Completed First Two Islands
Metro Exodus (PS4 -- Hardcore)
Ni No Kung II: Revenant Kingdom (PS4) – Chapter Two
Steep (PS4) – Alps: 18 per cent completion. Fun but the PS3 level graphics are disappointing. (Free Game).
Witness (PS4)– 316 panels solved, +13 (Free Game)
Backlog Monster (tm)
Actively Playing These Games
Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey: (PC -- Hard) – Level 8, 10 per cent completed. I started this on the PS4 Pro, hated the graphics and bought the PC version. I have no idea why it looked so poorly on my PS4 Pro. Looks great on the PC.
Detroit: Become Human (PS4) – Completed Six Chapters
Divinity Original Sin Enhanced Edition (PC -- Tactical) – Level 11
Fallout 4 (PC -- Hard) -- Level 28
Kingdom Come: Deliverance (PC – Hardcore Mode) -- Level 13
Mad Max (PS4) – Level 3, 6 per cent
Star Wars: Battlefront II (PS4 – Soldier Level) – Completed Seven Campaign Missions; Multiplayer Level 7
Tyranny (PC -- Hard) – Level 6
X-Com 2 (PC)
Watch Dogs (PS4) – 25.4 per cent
Yakuza Kiwami (PS4 -- Normal) – 5.2 per cent
DLC Backlog
Dragon Age Inquisition DLC (PC) – Started Jaws of Hakkon – Level 26
2019 – er, make that 2020 Wish List
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
The Outer Worlds
The Outer Wilds
Disco Elysium
Last of Us 2
Cyberpunk 2077
Games I will never finish before I die
(but that I want to finish)
Beyond Two Souls (PS3)
Crysis (PC) (Completed 7 of 11 areas)
Far Cry: Blood Dragon (PC – Medium) – Chapter 2 of 7
Faster Than Light (PC – Easy) -- 72 Failed Missions
Grand Turismo 5 (PS3) -- 54 per cent
Just Cause 2 (PS3 -- Experienced) -- 42 per cent (Completed main story)
Life is Stange (PC) – Not Started. I’ve got to play this based on the many recommendations.
Oblivion: Shivering Isles (PC) -- Level 30.
No Man’s Sky (PC) – Second Planet
Ryse of Rome (PC -- Centaurian) -- 30 per cent
Shadow of Colossus (PS3) (2 dead)
Sky Force Anniversary (PS4-Plus Free Games) – Level 7
Stardew Valley (PC) – Level 4 Farmer
Star Wars Empire at War (PC) – Lost my saved game. Darn
XCom Enemy Within (PC -- Normal)
Sports Backlog
Football, Tactics and Glory (PC) –Bury (8-4-2, Sixth Season, Finished Second in National League)
FIFA 19 (PS4) – PSG (31-3-4, Won Champions League, Won Ligue 1, Lost Coupe de la Ligue)
FIFA 16 (PC) -- West Bromwich (9-5-20)

Re: 2019 Gaming Plans
When I look back on 2019 I realize as far as new releases goes this was the worst year in a decade for the types of games I enjoy. I had the most epic run of amazing games that I started mid 2018 and finished up in 2019 (Detroit, hzd, rdr, spiderman). I knew that stretch was going to be impossible to duplicate so I spent a lot of time replaying games I love before next years crowded schedule arrives. Its never as fun replaying a game as it playing something for the 1st time. You will notice the games I replay are going to be shorter ones.
Sports Games
NBA 2K19 - I did a deep dive with the hawks in my league that I posted on the site
NBA 2K20 - I changed things up after no new features for my league so doing my career

Batmsn Arkham Asylum - 3rd time playing and 1st on ps4 and it didn't enjoy it as much
First Time Playing
RDR 2 - Maybe my most anticipated games ever that didn't disappoint. I played a lot of it in 2018 just took my time an a amazing game.
Spiderman - So awesome it made me a Spiderman fan what video games is all about
Kingdom Hearts Final Mix - Gave up about 70% through and YouTubed the rest due to a few issues. I hope the others are better as save and difficulty reasons bothered me.
Watch Dogs 1 - The 3rd game looks awesome so my expectations was low here for a older game. It was good enough and it showed promise.
Days Gone - A ton of mixed reviews here so I waited a few months to buy it. I really enjoyed it a very solid 8 out of 10 for me.

I agree with you in regards to Yakuza Kiwami (I started with Zero) but man, the story and characters is so great and even though the voice acting is in Japanese, it's still excellent and when the characters start getting angry or enraged, it shows in the voice acting. I do understand why it's a turn off though. Played and completed Judgment (8.0/10 for me) but it's 4th out of the Sega RGG Studio games that I have completed. Zero > Kiwami 2 > Kiwami > Judgment. I had more issues and negatives with Judgment than I did any of the three Yakuza games but I hope you're enjoying it as it's still a great game as indicated by the rating.
2019 was for me, an overall great year. There simply wasn't a "yeah, that's goty" like in 2018 where it was God of War or RDR 2 and that's it. But still a lot of great games and you could see that for many publishers, 2019 was a transition year as they're all getting ready for Fall 2020 and next gen.Comment
