I also love the original and an still early (about 3 hours in) to the remake. So far I am loving it.

Re: Final Fantasy 7 Remake (PS4,PS5)

I am about 10 hours in and in chapter 8. I can say I am still undecided about the game. It is certainly a gorgeous game and there are parts of it I really enjoyed, but I find myself constantly comparing the story to the original and all the things they added.

I am going to continue to play it but playing it honestly has me more wanting to break out the original and play a fresh walkthrough as I haven't played it since the remaster freshly released on the PS4.

I will say that the voice acting and mannerisms of the main characters are almost exactly like I imagined them in my head. Especially Aerith. I feel like she is that bright, selfless, always positive personality and it comes off perfectly. She was always my favorite character.

Though I must admit that I had been saying "may"ko for 20 plus years and I learned I was wrong so that stung a little.

I wonder how much of the story will be in the next game and how they are going to handle the world map of the original.

In the end, I will finish the game as I am curious as to what else they added to the plot but will likely find myself starting a new original game (remastered) this week.

There is a YT vid of the gal that did the voiceover work for Aerith (and I 100% agree it is spot-on) and seeing it in-action for the first time. It's a really sweet video...and you're far enough along in the game that it won't spoil anything for ya.

And the "may"ko vs "mah"ko....yeah, I'm right there with ya'....

I checked out the video or a video I should say, maybe not the one you were referring to, but yeah, her natural manuerisms match what I picture Aerith's to be perfectly.

The PS5 upgrade called Intergrade is out, and this game looks really, really good at 60 FPS.

Have never played a FF game before, but this one intrigued me so I bought the PS4 game during a digital sale some time ago. I never got around to trying it, but I’m glad I didn’t as I can now enjoy it in all its glory on PS5. Can’t wait to give this and Rachet and shot this weekend.

Was only able to play for about a half hour last night. But wow this game is amazing. It looks really good on PS5 too, playing in performance mode. Give me 60fps allllllllll day!

Finally jumped back into this a second time and beat chapter 1. Really loving everything about this game…the gameplay, how this looks/runs on PS5, the music, the atmosphere. Just a ton of fun so far.

I noticed that the original FF7 is on sale on the Switch. I believe it’s also on Game Pass so I could download it on my Series X.

Should I stop here and try to play through the original? Or just keep going with 7 remake?

I am not quite done with FFVIIR (I'm in chapter 14), but I feel like I've played enough to comment on the remake vs original.

Honestly its hard to answer your question without knowing your gaming tastes. The original FFVII is a gaming legend and masterpiece but is a very different game than the remake. The original is a traditional turn based JRPG with random battles. The entirety of FFVIIR makes up the first 8 to 10 hours of the original.

I have been impressed with how they have expanded the remake to a full fledged 30 to 40 hour experience vs the 8 to 10 hours in the original. Some of it can probably be considered padding, but I think everything has helped build out the world and make it feel more lived in.

The gameplay in the original is very different. Turn based random battles as I said. Towns are smaller. The story in the remake follows the overall story of the original so far, but there are some changes. But as I said the remake expands on several thing from the original - in my opinion in good ways.

I think the original is worth playing because it's a classic. In last played the original about 10 years ago and remember thinking how impressed I was that it held up back then. I believe the remaster on gamepass has added some QOL features that help with some of the gameplay mechanics that would make it easier for new players to get into the game in the present.

If you have access to it via gamepass I'd say why not give it a shot for at least a few hours. If it isn't clicking with you stick with the remake. Playing the original will definitely give you a frame of reference for the changes in the remake.

Ok cool, thanks. For the sake of timing I think I’ll grab it for the switch, but hold off on playing it until I finish remake on my PS5. Just have been way too overwhelmed with games to play, really since the next gen consoles launched. I’ve had trouble getting through any single game because I’m bouncing back and forth between a bunch. But at the same time I’m loving most all of them haha.

I started playing this game last week and it really is an amazing game.

I've only played Final Fantasy 7, 10, and 10-2 in my life but this one really pairs nostalgia with great visuals and storytelling. It's exactly what remasters of old games need to be.

I was disappointed last night when I had to go to bed because I wanted to continue playing. I struggle so much to find games I enjoy now-a-days.. picking up anything and everything is a mistake so I have to be selective.

Giving this game away is worth the cost of PS+ alone. I'm only about 8 hours in so I have a long way to go but that's fine because I'm slow at finishing games now.

I did not think I would like the combat since it's not turn based but now that I'm getting used to it there's a lot of fun to be had.

If you guys have a PS5 and haven't played this game on there yet, do yourself a favor and start a new playthrough - even if you've played the PS4 version. 100% worth it, 60 FPS and graphical upgrades made this game go from a 9/10 to a 10/10 easily for me.

The DLC is pretty great, too. Hard mode is a bitch lol very challenging but so satisfying

The combat in this game is incredible. Even better with the flow of 60 FPS on the PS5 now. I'm a HUGE turn-based guy, FFX is a game that I hold very near and dear to me, but this is the best that combat has ever been in Final Fantasy and that's saying something. They struck gold with this system. Can't wait for Part 2 and to see what they do with FF16 as well.

What are the differences between PS4 and PS5 versions? The DLC is PS5 exclusive right? I wasn't sure what else was different between the two except graphical upgrades.

There's a couple super bosses on Hard Mode only that comes with the Yuffie DLC

Other than that just little quality of life improvements on the free PS5 upgrade. Loading times are drastically reduced, the textures are all fixed including the low-res backdrops in Midgar. But for real the 60 FPS upgrade is worth it alone. The combat is wild with it

I'm an old fart, so I played the original back in 97 on the first PlayStation. Never played a FF game before or since.

I picked this up last month as part of the summer sale, and man I'm really glad I did. Didn't start it until this past weekend, but I'm hooked. Usually after about an hour or so of playing something, I need a break; but I don't want to turn this off.

Graphics are amazing on the PS4 Pro. It will definitely get another play through whenever I get a PS5. I prefer this combat style to the original. I'm playing on Classic, so the game is pretty forgiving, but I prefer it that way. And I'm still having to remind myself sometimes to use abilities and spells.

What's great for me is that I remember just enough from the original to be familiar with it and not totally lost. But I've forgotten so much that everything is still pretty fresh.

I've always considered the original FF7 to be one of the greatest games I've ever played. The remake is reminding me why.
